Review of Gina cat food: types, composition, reviews

GINA for cats is a food that fully meets the needs of your pet.

You don't need to be an expert to feel the difference between cat and human diets - it's huge. Under no circumstances should you feed your cat the same food you yourself eat. Some products that are firmly established on our table are harmful to the animal’s body.

What, then, can you offer your pet? Of course, high-quality industrially produced food. GINA is one of them.

About the manufacturer

GINA feeds are produced by the Russian company Magna, founded in 1996 in the northern capital of our country - St. Petersburg. Today it is one of the leaders in the production of pet food.

The Magna company produces such popular foods as:

  • Mi-Mi;
  • Wildy;
  • X-Cat;
  • X-Dog;
  • GINA Elite.

It should be noted that practically no feed is produced in Russia - production facilities are located abroad, from where the finished products are supplied.

Thus, X-Cat food is produced in Denmark, at the Vital Petfood Group A/S plant, one of the largest manufacturers of food for cats and dogs in Europe. This plant also produces dry food under the same brand.

GINA canned food is produced in Thailand by the Thai Union Manufacturing Co. factory. Ltd. Frozen and canned seafood and fish come from there to many countries around the world, including Russia.

GINA dietary food is produced in the UK, at Golden Acres Pet Food factories, specializing in dry food. They produce more than 500 types of feed for 350 companies around the world.

Gina Elite legacy foods are manufactured in Canada by Spectrum Feed Services Ltd.

The manufacturer assures that all of its food can be classified as “human grade”. In other words, not only the cat, but also its owner can taste this food, and without the slightest harm to his health.

Kinds

If we start with a more “modest” line, then the super premium Gina is available in the form of dry and wet food.

Canned food is produced exclusively in pouches weighing 85 g. The recipe for Gina's wet food is universal - it is suitable for any cat. The choice is not very large: chicken, sardines, beef and vegetables combined with tuna. In addition, a mono-protein food is produced - tuna in a thick sauce.

Complete nutrition in the form of a dry menu takes into account some features of not only cats, but also kittens, namely:

  • Cat Recipe takes into account the need for enhanced nutrition for hyperactive cats. In addition, Gina recommends this food for show regulars;
  • Cat 30. The balance of this complete menu takes into account the needs of cats that have normal levels of mobility;
  • Kitten 33. Packages weighing from 1 to 18 kg are intended for kittens. The level of proteins and the balance of all nutrients is designed for the increased needs of their body. Suitable, including for cats during pregnancy and lactation.

The line of holistic specialists is more diverse. The packaging of Gina Elite is slightly different from Gina's dry food: they are available in bags from 400 g to 18 kg. There is a menu for cats to choose from:

  • Sensitive, taking into account the characteristics of sensitive digestion;
  • Hairball Control, which prevents the accumulation of hairballs in the stomach;
  • Active Grain Free, which excludes grains from the diet;
  • Sterilized, intended by the developers of Gina Elite for neutered cats;
  • The food is able to satisfy the needs of kittens, as well as cats with pregnancy or lactation;
  • Complete, Adult – this marking on Gina Elite food means that it is suitable for adult active cats.

Range

GINA food belongs to the super-premium class, and GINA Elite belongs to the holistic class.

GINA Elite has ten dry foods, four of which are produced in the UK. You can distinguish them by their packaging - it is bluish-gray, and in the upper left corner there is an English flag on it.

Figuring out which food is suitable for whom is not so difficult, since they are all divided into several lines.

  • Kitten

Food for kittens up to one year old. Also ideal for adult pregnant and lactating cats. This type of food is based on chicken, fish and grains such as rice, oats and barley.

  • Cat Complete

This line of food is ideal for active adult animals. On sale there is a hypoallergenic food with duck and rice, as well as two foods based on chicken and rice - one additionally contains corn, and the other contains barley and oats.

  • Adult Cat

Similar to the Cat Complete line. The only difference is the manufacturing plant where this line of feed is produced. Otherwise, they are identical, right down to the composition and names of the products.

  • Grain Free

There are two varieties of this food on sale - Actibe and Salmon. The first, which is suitable for very active cats, contains turkey meat. The second, hypoallergenic, is made from salmon and sweet potato.

  • Sterelized

Food for sterilized cats. They contain chicken, rice and salmon. Available in two versions - with and without corn. Both foods are practically no different, so all you have to do is offer both to your pet and decide which one she likes best.

  • Sensitive

Dietary food for animals with weak stomachs. The composition includes easily digestible types of meat - turkey and lamb. As a side component, the manufacturer adds probiotics that restore intestinal microflora. This food received the most positive reviews from both veterinarians and pet owners. If you believe them, this diet is highly likely to solve the problem of intestinal disorders.

  • Hairball Control

Food designed to remove ingested hair from the stomach and intestines of an animal. It also reduces the risk of the formation of bezoars - hairballs in the digestive system.

GINA food is sold in 400-gram packs, as well as in packs of 1, 3, 8 and 18 kilograms. Elite food is packaged only in packages of 1, 3 and 15 kilograms.

Gina Elite food

Unlike the Gina reviewed, Gina Elite food belongs to the holistic category - nutrition for animals of the highest class. It produces only in the form of dry rations in several forms:

  • for adult cats with duck and rice;
  • for adult cats with salmon, grain-free formula;
  • for adult cats with chicken and rice;
  • for sterilized cats;
  • for cats with sensitive digestion;
  • for kittens.

Gina Elite with chicken and rice - a diet for adult pets of all breeds Food with salmon is intended for cats prone to allergies, as it does not contain grain components Gina Elite with duck and rice is also universal and suitable for all adult cats Gina Elite for sterilized cats is low in calories. In Gina Elite food for cats with sensitive digestion, the main source of protein is turkey. Gina Elite for kittens has a high protein content and high calorie content.

The products of the line are packaged in packages of 1, 3 and 15 kg. There are no medicinal or wet food under this name.

The holistic category explains the significant differences in composition compared to Gina diets. Let's look at the components of a diet for adult cats with duck and rice:

The total energy value of this food is 3810 kcal per kg of product, but the consumption rate is lower than that of the super premium food from the same company - 50 grams for a cat weighing 4 kg.

Pros and cons of food

Despite the high declared class of food, not everything is so smooth:

  • Some foods contain corn, wheat and potatoes, which can cause allergies and are not particularly healthy for cats. Carnilove products, which also apply to holistic products, do not contain a single such ingredient.
  • The list of ingredients is not replete with variety; some use only one vegetable or one meat component. This, for example, cannot be said about Acana “Wild Prairie” food - it contains several types of meat (chicken, turkey, high-quality chicken and turkey giblets, herring, trout), eggs, and various carbohydrate sources (green and yellow peas, lentils, chickpeas, beans).

This product also has significant advantages:

  • the main sources of protein are fish and meat ingredients, as it should be in holistic food;
  • the line has a grain-free composition;
  • there are specialized offers for certain categories of animals;
  • the food has a relatively low cost - the price of 1 kg of Gina Elite is 550–850 rubles, while for the same volume of Akana you will have to pay about 1000 rubles, and for Go! – 900 rubles.

    Gina Elite food is inexpensive compared to other holistic products

Evaluation and analysis of feed composition

Please note that the new Gina Elite lines differ significantly from those produced according to the old recipe and, unfortunately, not for the better.

The analysis is carried out on the basis of Adult Cat Duck&Rise food - a hypoallergenic holistic food for adult animals. This food contains all the basic components that are also found in other foods.

According to the manufacturer, GINA Elite food contains no flavors, dyes or preservatives.

The energy value of the feed is listed below:

  • Proteins – 30%;
  • Fats – 18%;
  • Carbohydrates – 35%;
  • Fiber – 1.5%;
  • Humidity – 7.5%;
  • Ash – 8%;
  • Calcium – 1.6%;
  • Phosphorus – 1.1%.

Despite the fact that the food is positioned as holistic, it should be noted that products containing cereals can, at most, be classified as super-premium. Old GINA foods do not contain such components.

The composition of the feed has twelve points. It omits vitamin and mineral nutritional supplements and is prescribed separately from the main composition. There are no synthetic components among them, which is one of the main advantages of this food.

The food is based on components such as duck meat (almost a third of the weight), white and brown rice, poultry fat, and potatoes. It is worth noting that the manufacturer did not indicate the proportion of certain components in the composition, limiting itself to only indicating the amount of meat.

Other ingredients include chicken broth, tomatoes, salmon oil, chicory, carrots, cranberries and Yucca Schidegera extract.

Now you have an idea of the composition of the food and can judge whether the mass of positive reviews about it is justified.

Squirrels

The only component that enriches the food with proteins is duck meat. The label does not provide details about dehydration of the meat or fillet, so it can be assumed that it is present in the composition in its raw form. Despite the lack of heat treatment, this component is perfectly absorbed by the cat’s body.

Please also note that the feed should not be subjected to additional heat treatment. At the same time, the moisture content of duck meat can decrease by 70% and as a result, out of the declared 31%, only 9-12% will remain. Keep this in mind if you are going to prepare new dishes for your pet using this canned food.

It should also be noted that the main source of energy for a cat is primarily carbohydrates, so there is no need to feed it exclusively protein foods. Fortunately, the food already contains all the necessary nutrients.

Fats

The main fatty component of GINA feed is poultry fat. Unfortunately, behind the generalized formulation it is impossible to understand what is actually added to this food, so we can assume that the manufacturer adds rather low quality products to the composition.

The food contains another source of Omega-3 fatty acids - salmon oil. Unfortunately, there is quite a bit of it in GINA food. However, it is an extremely valuable product. Suffice it to say that it is added exclusively to holistic foods.

Carbohydrates

Almost all remaining components are a source of the main nutrient - carbohydrates. The main supplier of carbohydrates in GINA food is potatoes, the share of which is close to that of meat.

This is followed by cereals:

Brown rice, easily digestible by the body, is therefore often added to feed instead of wheat and corn. It does not contain gluten, and its carbohydrates structurally take a long time to dissolve, thereby prolonging the feeling of fullness in the animal.

White rice, although it has a similar composition, is somewhat inferior in properties to brown rice.

Potatoes are a source of not only carbohydrates, but fiber, as well as vegetable protein - necessary components to ensure the normal functioning of a cat. A small amount of potatoes in cat food only shows its high quality. Unfortunately, when found in large quantities, potatoes are simply cheap fillers.

Other components

Other components do not play a significant role in the nutritional value of the feed, but they are also worth paying attention to.

  • Chicken broth is a natural flavoring agent that makes the food attractive and delicious from the cat's point of view. It is present as a dry concentrate.
  • Tomatoes and carrots are excellent sources of fiber. These vegetables are rich in carotenoids, vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately, there are very few of them in the composition, so their benefits for cats are questionable.
  • Chicory – thanks to inulin, this component helps treat dysbiosis and diarrhea. The content of chicory in cat food helps to actively restore intestinal microflora and improve digestion. Many veterinarians advise giving it to animals for digestive disorders such as constipation and diarrhea.
  • Yucca extract – reduces the specific “aroma” of the cat’s litter box, making it much less pronounced. A similar effect occurs due to a decrease in the activity of enzyme-secreting glands in the animal. Unfortunately, there is no benefit to the animal’s health from this component - it is used solely to irritate the owners’ sense of smell less.

Wet food "Gina"

Gina canned food is a wet food whose main ingredient is tuna. The flavor options for this food are a combination of tuna with other ingredients (chicken, sardines, beef, vegetables and squid). Pouches with a volume of 85 g are sold at a price of 50 rubles per bag.

The veterinarian explained to me that even the highest quality wet food cannot be used as the main diet. The calorie content of canned food is almost 10 times lower than that of “drying”. It is also not recommended to mix Gina wet food with other brands of crickets. The ideal option is a combination of canned food and crickets of the same brand. And from my own experience, I know that you need to be especially careful with wet food. Opened jars and pouches cannot be stored for more than a day, even in the refrigerator.

Veterinary ruler

“Gina” does not have a separate veterinary diet. Some cat owners choose this brand of food along with another diet. However, for this you need to consult a veterinarian. For example, a sterilized cat can be given low-calorie food Gina Elit, and if the animal has some kind of disease, it may require medications.

Does the brand have cat treats?

Cat owners can choose Gina canned food as a treat. In this case, you can take into account the pet’s taste preferences and its physiological characteristics.

Advantages and disadvantages of the recipe

GINA food has its advantages and disadvantages. You can judge them not only according to the opinion of veterinarians. Having carefully studied the composition of the feed, you can draw your own logical conclusions based on it.

The advantages include:

  • high quality meat as the main source of animal protein;
  • the use of grains that do not cause an allergic reaction;
  • adding high quality fats;
  • healthy additives and vegetables included in the food;
  • absence of chemical flavors, dyes and other synthetic components.

The disadvantages of the food also arise from the composition:

  • too many plant components compared to meat;
  • the main source of fat is in great doubt;
  • low amount of fiber compared to analogue feeds.

GINA food has more advantages than disadvantages and is quite suitable for providing your pet with complete nutrition. However, its composition does not fully meet the requirements of high-class feed. Whether or not to buy this product for your cat is up to you.

Varieties and assortment of the line

As we have already indicated, there are 4 types of Gin food. The manufacturer produces food in 3 types: canned food, pouches and croquettes. The “Elite” line exists only in the form of croquettes, premium balanced nutrition is available in the form of pouches and croquettes, and canned food belongs to the economy class.

  1. "Gina Denmark" . Includes 3 types of food: for kittens and pregnant cats, for show cats with a high level of activity, as well as for cats that lead a normal lifestyle. All foods are perfectly balanced in composition, enriched with amino acids and probiotics, have high energy value and can serve as the only cat food, as they are holistic. Holistics are foods that are thought out down to the vitamin composition. An animal that eats only them will feel great and have a beautiful appearance. “Gina Denmark” in the form of pauchi is produced in gelled form, made from tuna and contains a minimum amount of ingredients - meat, fish, vegetables and gelling filling.
  2. "Gina Elite" . There are 11 types of nutrition, each of which has a deep specialization. Healthy pet foods are available from a variety of ingredients such as chicken, duck, turkey and salmon. There is food for sterilized adult pets, for sensitive pets, for animals prone to allergies, and a treatment formula for removing hairballs from the digestive tract. Holistic food does not contain soy, wheat, corn, dyes, preservatives - in short, everything that can harm animals.
  3. X-Cat is produced at a plant in Italy - this is the most modern enterprise in the whole of Europe. "X-Cat" is presented in the form of croquettes and canned food. There are 2 types of dry food for cats and kittens: “Gina” produces it based on chicken fillet and based on tuna fillet. Tuna pellets are larger than chicken pellets and are recommended for larger pets. They have a lower energy value than the Elite line croquettes, but they have the same natural composition and balance in amino acids. This food is not suitable for holistic people. In addition to this, you will need to give your pet vegetables, fruits, and make sure that he gets enough fat. Canned foods contain animal protein that is easily digestible once properly processed, and are sweetened with delicious additions such as tuna with papaya and salmon with broccoli. All of the listed additives, of course, are present, not in the form of flavorings, but in their natural state.
  4. Canned food "Mi-Mi" . Super premium food for different tastes. In addition to the main ingredients - tuna and poultry - the food contains additives of cheese, lobster, shrimp, lamb, white fish and crab. Thus, if your pet is capricious and does not want to try one or another type of food, you can always replace it with an analogue of a different taste. There is no need to talk about quality - “Mi-Mi” is on the same level as the super-premium food “X-Cat”.

Important! Gina adds dried seaweed,
medicinal herbs and probiotics to its products. They stimulate the immune system, helping the cat's body produce its own beneficial microflora.

Product composition

Gina cat food has the following forms: pouches, canned food, croquettes. The structure of Gina Elite food contains only natural ingredients that provide exceptional benefits for the cat's body. The composition of ready-made food differs slightly depending on its type. Thus, the recipe for Cat Active Grain Free, intended for active cats, contains turkey and fish meat, eggs, and they are complemented by such ingredients as:

  • vegetable oil from sunflower seeds;
  • flax seeds;
  • fish fat;
  • buffalo grass extract;
  • brewing yeast;
  • peas;
  • potato tubers.

Dried apples, pumpkin, bananas, peppers, carrots, spinach and pears are added to some types of food. These are excellent sources of fiber and a storehouse of nutrients. Cranberry berries, which have a strong antioxidant property, are also included in the Gina Elite food for cats. The rhizome of bitterweed and the extract of sea dew are endowed with the same effect. Cat diets from the manufacturer Gina, in addition to nutritional value, have undoubted benefits for the pet’s body as a whole. They delay the approach of old age, ensure the health of the urinary tract and have a positive effect on the functioning of the heart muscle.

Gina cat food contains a preservative, but it is exclusively natural, and it is a mixture of tocopherols.

Reviews from veterinarians about Gina food

GINA foods receive mixed reviews from veterinarians, both positive and negative. In the overwhelming majority of cases, experts speak positively about it: the food turned out to be excellent for its price - better than the super-premium class, although it falls slightly short of the holistic class due to its low protein content. True, many veterinarians do not advise buying food that contains corn. But if your pet is accustomed to this component, there will probably be no harm from it.

Thus, GINA food is an excellent and relatively inexpensive solution for those who care about the health of their pet and prefer to feed him a truly high-quality product.

Instead of Xavier's school - to an animal shelter. Five-eared mutant cat from Volgodonsk is looking for an owner

A resident of Volgodonsk picked up a kitten on the street and had no idea that she was dealing with a mutant. The spotted gray Gina has five ears (maybe more) and a lot of energy. Now she is waiting for her Professor X at the shelter.

A resident of Volgodonsk named Lyudmila picked up a small kitten on Lenin Street two weeks ago. The spotted gray cat clearly had a home before - she was not afraid of people, like barn cats, and was different in age from the local litters. Lyudmila decided that the foundling would disappear on the street, and took the animal home. And when she carefully examined it, she realized that she had sheltered a mutant, says 1RnD.

She has at least five ears - one extra in both ears and one more on her cheek. I haven’t gotten to the vet yet, maybe he’ll find it.

The cat was named Gina - in honor of Jean Gray, the most powerful mutant from the X-Men. But more often they call it Flea - because it not only has five ears, but also a lot of energy.

Lyudmila turned to volunteers from the public organization “Do Good” to find Gina-Bloshka a loving owner.

DO GOOD Homeless Animals of Volgodonsk

Original

The kindest hands for the miracle of nature!
The owner of at least 5 ears (4 require confirmation from a specialist) cat Gina. There are only a few of these in the world! Just over 2 months old. Hyperactive and very funny! Original Gina is accommodated only in conjunction with her “nanny” - one-year-old cat Nika. According to Lyudmila, this pet has a difficult fate - before her eyes, dogs tore apart her brothers and sisters.

But she has a very strong maternal instinct. Before Gina, I adopted another foundling kitten, and when he was given away, Nika refused food for a week and was constantly looking for him. Now she has taken custody of Gina, and I simply cannot separate them.

Gina

Cats with five ears are very rare. Seven years ago, a scientist from Voronezh, Vladimir Obryvkov, who studies the physical anomalies of animals, found one of these on the street and gave him shelter, RIA Novosti writes. The researcher named his ward Luntya - in honor of the hero of the children's cartoon series, who was born with four ears.

The owner of the five-eared Lunti was offered to cross her with a three-eared cat from Turkey, but he refused. I decided that I would first try to introduce the cat to the four-eared kitten Luntik, who, as the Primpogoda website wrote, was found in garages in Vladivostok.

And the most famous cat in the world with an ear abnormality is called Yoda from Chicago. The owners picked up this cat in a trash can and did not even immediately realize that they had received a cosmically beautiful creature, notes The Daily Mail.

A kitten named Betty Bo from South Africa has only two ears, but two mouths, two noses and three eyes. Because of the anomaly, they wanted to euthanize him, but he survived and became a Facebook star.

Cats clearly have access to the art of conquering human hearts, which works despite the flaws in appearance. For example, the fold-eared Japanese cat Yonzu is so chubby that, trying to crawl through the gap between the glass doors, he involuntarily cosplays as Winnie the Pooh. But this only makes him loved more.
