About the manufacturer
Grandin food production is located in two European countries. The Czech plant Dibas AS produces dry croquettes, and the German company Landguth produces canned food. There is no information on the official website about who owns the Grandin trademark, however, both production enterprises meet sanitary and technological requirements. Grandin products are developed with the participation of breeders and veterinarians, using high-quality raw materials. The line of food belongs to the super-premium class.
Considering the packaging of Grandin food for kittens
On the package we see a black and white photograph of a cute kitten combined with black, yellow and pink colors. There are also a number of notes here: Holistic, Grain-free, “Made with 78% meat and fish ingredients,” “Contains 20% fresh chicken.” It's good that there is no grain in the diet, but it is not clear how exactly this food “supports active growth” (as indicated by the label Support Active Growth).
Similarly, on the front side of the package there are three more icons: Optimal digestion, Natural support for immune system, Support of urinary system, but there are no explanations about that , with the help of which components these effects are achieved, no. We believe that all such labels make sense only when the manufacturer clearly indicates which ingredients have such a beneficial effect on animal health, and is able to confirm with the results of clinical studies that they are effective in this particular product.
Feed composition
In Grandin, the content of fresh meat reaches 30-50%, components of animal origin - up to 70% (in canned food), several types of meat are used. Let's look at the ingredients of the composition using the example of food for adult dogs of any breed with lamb:
- protein source - a combination of fresh meat and dried lamb, dehydrated chicken meat, hydrolyzed lamb liver. This combination restores the dog’s need for proteins and animal fats;
- The main source of carbohydrates is rice, and the main source of fiber is beet pulp and apple pulp. These are completely natural products that remain when processing and peeling vegetables;
- source of amino acids – poultry fat, salmon meat;
- Brewer's yeast, chicory root, and yucca are used as additional components in the feed.
Grandin is balanced in nutritional components, contains vitamins, macro- and microelements. No supplements are required to keep your pet healthy and fit.
Grandin food base for sterilized cats
At first glance at the list of ingredients, it is immediately clear that the rule of indicating components in descending order has been violated. The first place is occupied by the complex combined under the name “meat ingredients”: “Meat ingredients (27.5% fresh chicken meat, 30.5% dried chicken meat, 6% dried turkey meat, 4% pork liver).” We are against such a free interpretation of the composition and believe that it is important that all ingredients are clearly indicated in descending order, in the appropriate places in the list.
In this case, the overall share of high-quality meat is quite decent (68%, that is, the composition of the Grandin food for castrated cats is confirmed by the large numbers on the front side of the package) and allows you to assign a bonus of 5 points to the food. This point should always be assessed biasedly, because in many other diets the volume of such complexes from various ingredients of animal origin is much less.
Instead of grain, potatoes (No. 2 on the list) and peas (No. 3) are added here - it’s a pity that their exact shares in the diet are not indicated. Beet pulp and chicken fat round out the top five.
Advantages and disadvantages
Grandin food is popular due to its high-quality composition and high protein content.
Advantages:
- a large number of meat components in dry food and canned food for dogs;
- complete composition;
- lack of grain crops (wheat, corn);
- The packaging indicates the percentage composition of all ingredients.
Cons of Grandin food:
- unclear wording in the composition;
- presence of preservatives and antioxidants;
- the use of two types of meat, which causes difficulties when choosing food for dogs with allergies;
- Difficult to purchase, high price.
Grandin is easier to buy in online stores; this product is rarely found in retail chains. Some foods in the line contain grains, which is not suitable for dogs with digestive problems.
Description of additives in Grandin food
In addition to the already mentioned beet pulp, the feed contains other sources of fiber - alfalfa, apples. We have already talked about the main source of fatty acids - chicken fat, but there are other fats here: the oil contained in flax seeds, as well as cold-pressed oil from Norwegian salmon.
For the digestive system, it contains fairly traditional supplements - the fiber noted above, prebiotics (from brewer's yeast, chicory root), and yucca schidigera.
Images of black currant and chamomile are displayed on the front of the package. You can learn more about these and other additives in Grandin Cat Sterilized Chicken Grain Free in the descriptions of the relevant components in our reference database, but we urge you to pay attention first of all to the main components of the finished feed.
The list of ingredients also includes a complex of various medicinal herbs - however, their amount in the feed does not exceed 1%, and we strongly doubt that these components can have any beneficial effect on the animal’s body.
The manufacturer took care to indicate in detail the mineral and vitamin additives in 1 kg of feed. A positive point: most of the mineral compounds here are in the proteinate format - such complexes are absorbed by the body better than simple mineral salts.

Reviews of Grandin cat food
Poltin
While exploring the shelves of cat food at the 4 Paws pet store, my attention was drawn to the stylish packaging of Grandin Holistic Kitten dry kitten food. The standard packaging form and volume is 400 grams, the usual cost is 359 rubles, on sale 319. In general, at the level of the widely advertised Royal Canin and others like it. The food is declared as holistic, although I personally am confused by its price, it seems like holistic products are more expensive. But the composition looks very natural. A large percentage of meat components and animal proteins. Quite an impressive list of vitamins and microelements in the food. The food smells, but I wouldn’t say it’s unpleasant, it’s more of a “natural” smell. The kitten eats with pleasure, cleaning the bowl. In general, given the price of this dry food, we will buy more instead of other popular premium brands of a similar price.

FeonaBell
I have a picky cat with British roots. How we suffered with him, we just didn’t treat him and didn’t try to feed him. It is very important for your pet to choose the right food. So far we have found the right one and tried about 5-6 items, including more expensive ones, until we tried the Grandin series food. First, I took Grandin kitten, which corresponded to the age of the kitten (up to 1 year), transferred it smoothly, as recommended by veterinarians, mixing it a little with the previous food, gradually increasing the amount of new food. The cat began to feel better, began to slowly grow stronger, the fur changed, became thicker, and the problems with the litter box disappeared (he always had loose stools). After a year, I started taking my cat Grandin Adult, which is recommended for adult cats, it has the maximum composition of meat ingredients, up to 80%. I also liked this food, the cat felt great and became more active. But after several months I began to gain weight, one might say get fat. Switched to Grandin Indoor. It already contains 61% meat, and the rest is healthy vegetables and herbs; it contains brewer’s yeast and flaxseed, which has a positive effect on the condition of the coat and digestion. I also gradually switched to the dietary version, since after the food consisted of almost only meat, the cat ate it reluctantly, but quickly got used to it.

Spook
I usually use Pro Plan food, but lately I've started to feel like it's not doing very well for my animal's coat. I decided to buy Grandin for comparison. I took it on the seller's advice, Grandin with beef. The cat walked around the bowl, sniffed it, pointedly buried the whole thing with its paw and left. Grandin is the first food that she clearly did not want to eat.

Dog food: reviews
Dry and wet dog food of the Grandin brand have been sold on the pet supply market for a long time, so reviews about them are easy to find.
Veterinarians
Stanislav, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience, shared his opinion about Grandin food on the forum. According to him, the diet of this brand is firmly in the premium class, but a number of omissions from the manufacturer do not allow the doctor to say that the nutrition is as good as it says on the official website. This is part of the marketing strategy. We are talking primarily about the statement that the food is grain-free. This is not true, because instead of wheat, corn or other grains they contain rice. It is not dangerous for dogs, but it is not beneficial either. It is worth mentioning that the brand’s assortment does not include special diets or veterinary lines, unlike Grandorf and other brands. Otherwise, Grandin is a decent food for animals.
Dog breeders
Natalya writes a review of Grandin’s diet. She has a 1.3 year old German Shepherd. According to Natalya, earlier, when drawing up a nutrition plan for her pet, she gave preference to natural products and ingredients. But over time, she noticed that the dog was poorly digesting the food it received. It was decided to try dry food. After a long search, the choice settled on Grandin. Natalya notes the good composition of the product, rich in vitamins and animal proteins. “Grandin” suited her active and playful pet perfectly.
Olga is the owner of show and breeding dogs of different ages. She takes food selection seriously. Over the years, pets have tried different products, but now they have settled on Grandin. Olga makes sure that the dogs get all the necessary elements from their food and believes that “Grandin” is the best assistant in this. The main thing for her is a large percentage of meat contained, many vitamins, assortment, and good digestibility.
Julia faced a problem: her Chihuahua developed allergies. After much clarification, we realized that the dog had such reactions to food. The owner decided to switch her pet to dry food and chose Grandin. She bought a small package of 400 g to try. She notes that the lock on the package is strong, the size is convenient for a trial time and for travel. From day one, her dog enjoyed eating Grandin. The small size of the granules is convenient for a small dog. After 3 months, the allergy completely disappeared.
Grandin dog food is a balanced diet for pets that has mostly positive reviews. The price-quality ratio, composition, content of microelements and vitamins make it attractive to dog breeders.
Canned food Grandin
A distinctive feature of these products is the content of meat ingredients - 55%. The manufacturer also explains that this food does not contain dyes, flavors or preservatives. There are only 4 varieties in the line with different tastes, and all of them are intended for adult cats. The list of components is quite laconic:
- chicken meat (55%);
- turkey meat (50%), tuna (5%);
- chicken meat (50%), tuna (5%);
- chicken meat (50%), shrimp (5%).
So, the first thing that can be noted is that the name of the ingredients tells us that exactly meat was used in this food, that is, muscle fibers, most likely, without bones and other by-products.
Turkey and chicken are excellent foods for cats, as poultry is part of a cat's natural diet in the wild. However, the manufacturer did not indicate in what form the meat was added to the feed. Since the website indicates “meat fiber” in the name of the food, we conclude that this is raw meat, probably pre-deep frozen - otherwise it would be indicated that the meat is fresh. The difference between chicken and chicken is not entirely clear; usually these ingredients mean the same thing, but the manufacturer found it necessary to separate these two types of meat products.
Tuna and shrimp in this case do not have any significant effect on the content of animal protein in the feed, since they constitute only 5% of the total share of the feed. They probably act as a natural flavoring additive.
And the composition seems worthy at first glance, but we have a reasonable question: if they described to us what 55% of the food consists of, then what makes up the remaining 45%? Is it water or is it meat juice released during cooking, maybe sauce or jelly? The manufacturer does not provide any information about this. It’s somehow not very interesting to buy food, almost half of the components of which are hidden under the veil of trade secrets.
Only vitamin E in the amount of 50 mg is indicated as additives, but the manufacturer does not hide the fact that the product is only an addition to the basic diet. Guaranteed product analysis tells us the same thing:
- protein 10-12%;
- fat 0.8-1.2%;
- raw ash 0.7-1.5%;
- crude fiber 0.3-1.5%;
- moisture 84%.
Our verdict
In general, canned food is quite good, but we find the statement about the increased meat content to be somewhat advertising; we have also seen more meat-based food. In addition, almost half of the feed composition remains unknown. Most likely, the unknown part is its own juice. And this is again a reason to think about whether it is worth paying for 100% of the product, but receiving only 55%.
Canned food is sold in jars with a key, packaged in 70 g, the price on the 4 Paws website is 80 rubles. For comparison, Grandorf canned food in similar packaging contains 75% fresh (not frozen) meat products and 25% of its own juice (that is, this unit is listed in the composition), and costs only 10 rubles more.
