Alizin for cats: instructions for use, composition, dosage and price

Effect of the drug

You can buy the drug in Moscow in the form of a suspension (volume 30 and 100 ml).
The set includes a special syringe-dropper for convenient use. The price for Propalin is 1500-1800 rubles per 100 ml, and 600-800 rubles per 30 ml. The medicine helps the sphincter remain tightly closed, which automatically prevents urine leakage. The active ingredient of Propalin is phenylpropanolamine. This synthetic compound activates the animal's sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body's automated reactions. Thus, immediately after taking the suspension, the animal’s sphincter tightens, and urination occurs only after conscious effort.

As for the long-term effect, a month-long course literally tightens the muscles around the urethra, which also helps prevent accidental urination.

How to terminate a dog's pregnancy

There are two ways to terminate a dog's pregnancy.

. The choice between them depends on how much time has passed since mating.

Medical abortion

Medical abortion involves giving the animal a loading dose of the hormone estrogen over several days. In this case, pregnancy simply does not occur due to the fact that the fertilized eggs cannot remain in the uterus and are released naturally. Such actions invariably lead to negative consequences for the dog’s health. There is a high probability of complications, including inflammation of the uterus and death.

Surgical abortion

The dog's uterus has a specific shape, which makes it impossible to remove the puppies without damaging its walls. Therefore, in the case of a surgical abortion, the bitch's uterus is completely removed along with all its contents. This operation poses a threat to the health and life of the dog due to large blood loss, because during pregnancy the uterus significantly increases in size due to blood flowing to it. Careful postoperative care and proper treatment of sutures are extremely important.

Contraindications to the use of Propalin and its analogues

The drug "Propalin" and its analogues - "Dietrin" and "Ovestin" - are potent pharmacological agents. Therefore, they have some contraindications. They are not recommended for use in the following cases:

  1. During pregnancy in females.
  2. During the lactation period in dogs.
  3. If you have an individual intolerance to any substance contained in the medicinal product.

Also, this drug and its substitutes should not be used in combination with other drugs: psychotropic, anticholinergic, sympathomimetics and other potent drugs. This combination can cause complications in animals. Before giving the drug to your dog, you should visit a veterinarian and get advice on how to use the drug correctly.

Release form of Propalin and its analogues

The drug "Propalin" is a solution for oral use. Available in plastic bottles containing 30 or 100 ml of active medication. One kit contains the drug and a dispenser syringe, as well as instructions that describe the correct use of this substance.

“Propalin” is a syrup; it can be stored for up to two years under proper use and storage conditions. After opening the bottle, the drug can be used for no more than 3 months. If the shelf life of the medicine has expired, it is prohibited to use it. It must be stored in an isolated place, far from feed and various food products. Ideally, this will be a place protected from sunlight. The storage temperature should be 15-25 degrees.

The main analogues of “Propalin” are “Ovestin” and “Dietrin”. The release form of the first medication is varied: tablets, ointments, suppositories. This drug must be stored in a place isolated from direct sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees Celsius. Another analogue of “Propalin” is “Dietrin”, which is available in tablets. They also consist of the active substance - phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride.

Storage conditions

The storage temperature of Alizin in a closed bottle is room temperature (not higher than 25C). The storage location must be protected from moisture and direct sunlight, and located away from feed and food. The shelf life if you follow all the specified recommendations is 3 years from the date of manufacture. Once opened, the medicine can be stored for no more than 4 weeks at a temperature range of 3°C to 5°C. Dispose of empty or unused vials according to local safety regulations. If the drug does not visually correspond to the description (for example, cloudy flakes appear in the solution), it must be discarded.

How to replace Propalin analogues

Despite its effectiveness, the main disadvantage of the medicine is its too high demand and its regular absence from pharmacies, especially in small towns. In addition, the price of this medication is relatively high. In this regard, the question of how and what can be replaced with “Propalin” is very relevant. Analogs for dogs suffering from urinary incontinence should also be discussed with the treating veterinarian.

Today, the only medicine that can be fully called identical to “Propalin” is the drug for people “Dietrin”. Despite the fact that this medicine is prescribed for other purposes, the main active component of Dietrin is the same - phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride. This makes it possible to temporarily or permanently replace “Propalin” for dogs

The analogue should be used with caution, observing the dosage calculated by the veterinarian

Important! There are two medications sold in pharmacies under the name “Dietrin”. One of them is essentially a dietary supplement and cannot replace “Propalin” with it

You can distinguish these products by reading the composition on the packaging. Dietrin dietary supplement consists of natural herbal components. To treat your pet, you should purchase analogs that replace Propalin for dogs or people, the composition of which includes phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride, regardless of the form of the drug.

Also in Russian pharmacies you can find another phenylpropanolamine drug, the American weight loss medicine Trimex. But there is a reason why it is quite difficult to replace the drug “Propalin” with Trimex - an analogue in a pharmacy can be purchased strictly according to a prescription. But a veterinarian cannot issue such a prescription for treating a dog.

As a last resort, a substitute for “Propalin” for dogs, an analogue based on other active ingredients, can be prescribed. These include, for example, Vesicare, an antispasmodic designed to reduce the tone of the urinary tract. Preparations based on oxybutynin hydrochloride (Driptan, Sibutin) have the same effect.

Instructions for use

The required dosage of the suspension is calculated by the veterinarian based on the weight and general health of the dog. In order to minimize the occurrence of unpleasant side effects, the entire daily volume of the medicine can be divided into 2-3 doses.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Remove the protective cap from the bottle of suspension.
  2. Insert the dosage syringe with the piston fully pressed into the bottle.
  3. Slowly pull back the plunger until the medicine in the syringe reaches the desired level. If there is very little liquid left, you can carefully twist the bottle to collect the remaining liquid from the very bottom.
  4. The suspension may be mixed with food. But to be sure that the entire prescribed dose has entered the animal’s body, it is better to hold the dog’s head between your knees and pour the drug from the dispenser directly into the throat.

Advice! To prevent the appearance of air bubbles in the syringe, and thereby not reduce the dosage calculated by the doctor by a few milligrams, it is necessary to draw liquid from a bottle tilted at an angle.

After the dog swallows the medicine, you need to monitor the animal for at least 3-4 minutes. Sometimes the pet burps the drug literally immediately after taking it. After completing the procedure, you need to screw the bottle tightly and rinse the dispenser syringe thoroughly under running water. Propalin must be stored in a clean, cool and dry place. However, cooling the suspension below 15 degrees is prohibited, so you should not leave the drug in the refrigerator. If the drug has not been completely used three months after opening the bottle, it must be thrown away.

Name ALIZIN Name (lat.) Alizin Composition and release form

As an active ingredient, 1 ml of the drug contains 30 mg of aglepristone, as excipients - ethanol 0.1 ml and peanut oil up to 1 ml.

Alizin is produced packaged in 10 ml glass bottles, sealed with chlorobutanol stoppers and rolled with aluminum caps.

Pharmacological properties Pharmacological group: hormones and their antagonists. Aglepristone, which is part of Alizin, is a synthetic steroid that is a progesterone antagonist. Aglepristone blocks progesterone receptors in the uterus, disrupting the normal physiological process of maintaining pregnancy in bitches, which leads to abortion or fetal resorption. The ability of aglepristone to bind to uterine progesterone receptors in dogs is 3 times higher than that of progesterone. Aglepristone does not change the concentrations of progesterone, prostaglandins, oxytocin or cortisol in the blood plasma within 24 hours after its administration, but promotes the release of prolactin within 12 hours after injection. The maximum concentration of aglepristone is observed in the blood 2.5 days after administration of the drug. Aglepristone is biotransformed in the liver and excreted from the body mainly in feces. Indications: Used to terminate unwanted pregnancy in domestic animals up to 45 days after accidental mating. Alizine is also used to treat pyometra in dogs and cats without surgery. Doses and method of administration

Alizin is used after the end of the estrus period. The drug is administered to dogs under strictly aseptic conditions, subcutaneously in the withers area, twice, with an interval of 24 hours at a dose of 10 mg/kg of animal weight (0.33 ml of solution per 1 kg of animal weight). For cats, the drug is administered at a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight once every 24 hours.

Alizin doses larger than 5 ml should be administered at different points.

Duration of taking the drug: for dogs – 0-45 days of pregnancy, for cats – 7-8 days after mating.

The effectiveness of the drug is 99% (when used before the 25th day) and 96% (when used before the 45th day).

The dose of the drug depending on the weight of the animal is:

Dog weight, kg 3 6 9 12 24 30 42
Dose, ml 1 2 3 4 8 10 14

After administering the drug, it is necessary to lightly massage the injection site. If the volume of the injected solution exceeds 5 ml, then the drug must be administered at several points. Abortion (or fetal resorption) occurs within 7 days after the administration of Alizin.

After use, a follow-up visit is required for examination and confirmation of termination of pregnancy by ultrasound. If pregnancy is terminated in the early stages - 20 days after treatment, in the middle stage - after 8 days. In case of incomplete abortion, treatment (2 injections of Alizin at a dose of 0.33 ml/kg/day with an interval of 24 hours) can be repeated after 10 days, between 30 and 45 days of pregnancy.

After using the drug, subsequent estrus occurs in accordance with the physiological norm, ensuring unhindered pregnancy and childbirth.

Side effects In case of increased individual sensitivity in animals, allergic reactions are possible. When Alizin is administered, local inflammation and pain at the injection site may occur. In bitches treated after the twentieth day of pregnancy, abortion may be accompanied by signs of physiological labor, that is, expulsion of the fetus, slight loss of appetite and stagnation of milk. Contraindications Individual hypersensitivity of the animal to aglepristone. The drug should not be used in dogs with impaired liver, kidney or adrenal function, as well as in patients with diabetes. Special instructions When working with the medicinal product Alizin, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions provided for when working with medicinal products for animals. Storage conditions: Alizin is stored in the manufacturer's sealed packaging, in a dry place, protected from light, out of reach of children and animals, separately from food and feed at a temperature of 15 °C to 25 °C. The shelf life of the medicinal product, subject to storage conditions, is 3 years from the date of production. After the first opening of the bottle, the drug can be used for no more than 28 days, subject to aseptic rules and storage at a temperature of 3°C to 5°C. Manufacturer Virbac Sante Animale, France

Composition and action

The active ingredient in Alizin is aglepristone. This is a synthetic antiprogestogen that has an abortifacient effect and causes miscarriage in animals.

It prevents the release of the hormone progesterone into the uterus, increases prolactin levels and affects the development of pregnancy in dogs. This leads to miscarriage or resorption of the fetus in the early stages (up to 25 days). Approximately on the third day after injection, the maximum concentration of the active ingredient in the animal’s blood plasma is observed.

Please pay attention to contraindications, overdose

It is important to remember: a veterinary clinic doctor should prescribe the drug “Propalin” for dogs (an analogue with the same active ingredient), and also determine the dosage in each individual case. The same specialist will definitely warn about existing contraindications to the use of “Propalin”

The drug in question is not prescribed in the following conditions:

  • the animal's hypersensitivity to the main components that make up Propalin was revealed (a visible side effect may occur - various allergic reactions);
  • during pregnancy (lactation) of an animal;
  • if anticholinergic drugs, antidepressants, or any sympathomimetics have been previously prescribed and are currently being used.

No less dangerous is the incorrectly calculated amount of the drug used at a time. The consequence of this may be an overdose. This phenomenon can be determined by the following signs:

  • the dog has shortness of breath;
  • the animal's pupils are noticeably dilated;
  • The dog is acting restless.

If one or more of these symptoms are detected, the owner must immediately take the pet to the veterinarian.

Instructions for use of analogues

Substitutes for "Propalin" have similar instructions for use. "Ovestin" and "Dietrin" should be used strictly on the recommendation of a veterinarian, following the dosage of the drug and the recommendations described in the instructions for use

In addition, it is necessary to take precautions when using various drugs, not forgetting about personal hygiene

Each drug is calculated based on the animal’s body weight and is used strictly for its intended purpose - in the presence of diseases associated with urinary incontinence or leakage. The dosage of the drug “Dietrin” is determined by the dog’s body weight and its age. Typically, adult animals are prescribed half a tablet per day during feeding. It is advisable to give your dog water immediately after taking the medicine.

An analogue of "Propalin" - the drug "Ovestin" - is also dosed according to body weight, depending on the severity of the disease and the lack of estrogen in the dog, because this drug is hormonal. The daily use of this medicine should not exceed 8 ml.

Effective analogues of Propalin

Many people face this problem when they cannot find the required drug. What to do in this case, how to replace “Propalin”? As you already understand, this veterinary drug is similar to Dietrin and Ovestin in pharmacological properties. Therefore, they are often used when the medicine prescribed by the veterinarian is not available for sale.

“Dietrin” is ideal for dogs. It is used to control body weight in animals. The drug is an anorexigenic substance with central action. Available in capsules of 10 pieces. Each contains 75 mg of phenylpropanolamine and 9 mg of benzocaine. Contraindicated in pregnant dogs and lactating females. In addition, it should be used on the recommendation of a veterinarian.

"Ovestin" for dogs is an excellent estrogen preparation. It actively affects gynecological diseases, eliminates all problems that appear with age. In this case, it treats incontinence in pets and other manifestations that arise due to a lack of estrogen. The pharmacological agent is available in 3 forms: tablets, suppositories and cream. Each option contains natural estrogen. This medication must be taken at the same time, observing the dosage and interval after taking the previous capsule. Proceed according to the scheme given in the description of the medicine.

Complications

Pyometra is a severe inflammatory disease of the uterus, leading to the development of:

  • abscess of the abdominal organs;
  • acute peritonitis;
  • rupture of the uterine cavity.

Complications may arise after surgical treatment of pyometra if the doctor left even a small fragment of the ovary. This leads to relapse of the disease with the development of an infectious-inflammatory process in the abdominal organs. In the absence of timely treatment due to complications, the disease leads to the death of the pet.

Pharmacological properties of Propalin

This medicine contains an active substance called phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride. The drug acts on receptors and helps improve the functioning of the muscles of the urinary tract. The maximum effect of the drug is achieved 1-2 hours after use. It has the ability to be quickly and easily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

It is excreted from the body of animals along with their waste products. Helps eliminate problems such as urine leakage or incontinence that arise due to various factors, one of which may be the age of the dog. As a rule, they suffer from this disease more often than young animals. Surgical intervention may also be the cause. Therefore, the use of this drug successfully copes with this pathology.

II. Pharmacological properties

7. Pharmacological group: hormones and their antagonists.

Aglepristone, which is part of Alizin®, is a synthetic steroid that is a progesterone antagonist.

In terms of the degree of impact on the body, Alizin® is classified as a moderately hazardous substance (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76).

Indications for use of Propalin

This drug is prescribed to female dogs for urinary incontinence, which occurs due to dysfunction and poor functioning of the urethral sphincter. It is also indicated if:

  1. Urine leakage during sleep in puppies and adult animals.
  2. Incontinence as a consequence of sterilization. In this case, you can perform the operation again and eliminate the consequences.
  3. An age factor caused by weakening of the pelvic muscles and muscles.

If it is necessary to use drug substitutes, such as “Dietrin” and “Ovestin”, some features in prescribing medications should be taken into account. For example, the first drug is used to regulate the body weight of animals. It contains the same active ingredient as “Propalin” - phenylpropanolamine.

Use the medicine until the animal recovers completely. Basically, this drug does not have any side effects, so it is indicated for any dog. But, if they are present, you should stop using them for a while, and then try again, using the same amount of product.

Another drug is used when it is necessary to treat dogs in the field of gynecology if they are found to have a deficiency of the female hormone. Therefore, in this case, an analogue of “Propalin” is used - “Ovestin”. In addition to the active substance, it contains the necessary estrogen.

III. Application procedure

8. Alizin® is used to terminate an unwanted pregnancy in dogs up to 45 days after accidental mating.

9. A contraindication to the use of Alizin® is the individual hypersensitivity of the animal to aglepristone. The drug should not be used in dogs with impaired liver, kidney or adrenal function, as well as in patients with diabetes.

10. Alizin® is administered to dogs subcutaneously in the withers area at a dose of 10 mg/kg of animal weight (0.33 ml of solution per 1 kg of animal weight), twice, with an interval of 24 hours.

The dose of the drug depending on the weight of the animal is:

Dog weight, kg36912243042
Dose, ml1,02,03,04,08,010,014,0

After administering the drug, it is necessary to lightly massage the injection site. If the volume of the injected solution exceeds 5 ml, then the drug must be administered at several points. Abortion (or fetal resorption) occurs within 7 days after the administration of Alizin®. In case of incomplete abortion, treatment can be repeated after 10 days, between 30 and 45 days after accidental mating. The drug does not contain preservatives, therefore, each time a dose is taken, the vial stopper should be treated with 70% alcohol. Sterile needles and syringes are used to administer the drug.

11. When administering the drug in doses up to 30 mg/kg, no overdose symptoms were noted.

12. No specific pharmacological effects were identified upon first administration or upon discontinuation of the drug.

13. Violation of the recommended regimen for using the drug should be avoided in order to avoid a decrease in its effectiveness or the occurrence of side effects.

14. After using Alizin®, some animals may experience a decrease in appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, a decrease in the duration of estrus, as well as a slight, rapidly disappearing inflammatory reaction at the injection site.

15. Alizin® should not be used simultaneously with glucocorticoids, or mixed in the same syringe with other medications.

16. Alizin® is not intended for use in food producing animals.

Indications for use

The medicine has a fairly large number of side effects and contraindications, so it is prohibited to prescribe it to an animal yourself. For example, if a dog’s urinary incontinence was caused by kidney disease or old age, then Propalin will be absolutely ineffective. The medication affects only the urethral sphincter.

Functional insufficiency of the urethral sphincter is diagnosed in only 20% of male dogs. Weakening of the sphincter in the urethra is most often observed in bitches after giving birth (especially if there were several puppies in the litter). The muscles in the urethral area lose tone, resulting in periodic leakage of urine. At the same time, the dog may not feel any urge, and will not even have time to ask to go outside. Breeds that are most prone to developing the disease:

  • golden retrievers;
  • Labradors;
  • Siberian huskies;
  • husky;
  • Newfoundlands;
  • English bulldogs.

The first suspicion of urethral sphincter incompetence should arise from the owner of a dog who suddenly began urinating in the house at an uncharacteristic time for walking. Such changes should especially alert the owners of those animals that previously always “asked” to go outside to go to the toilet. Symptoms of urinary incontinence are not difficult to notice even without medical education. The animal cannot wait until the planned walk, and during the process of unscheduled urination does not show any changes in behavior (the dog does not seem to notice that it is urinating). It is also necessary to take the animal to the veterinarian if a slight leak of urine is observed while the pet is running, playing, sitting, or even sleeping.

Medicinal treatment without surgery

When diagnosing pyometra in cats, its treatment without surgery is possible, although recently this has been considered ineffective. The method consists of attempting non-surgical intervention with the help of hormonal drugs, antibiotics and symptomatic therapy to cleanse the uterine cavity of the pus accumulated in it.

Hormonal drugs are usually prescribed to block the effect of the hormone progesterone on the uterus (for example, alysine).

Treating pyometra without surgery is a rather risky and expensive method. It is usually used for early detection and uncomplicated course of the disease, as well as in cases where we are talking about purebred and expensive cats from which they are still planning to get kittens. But it should be remembered that even in the case of a positive outcome of the disease, the cat may remain infertile.

Treating pyometra with medication is quite risky; the disease can recur at any time

If the cat’s uterus has not been removed, then after complete recovery and a course of restorative therapy, provided that the histology performed is normal, veterinarians advise not to delay mating the animal in order to produce offspring. After all, there are no guarantees that the disease will not recur and this time urgent sterilization will not be required.

Among the folk remedies prescribed for pyometra, chamomile, calendula, and nettle are usually used. But decoctions of the listed herbs in no case can act as the only and independent remedy for the disease. They are taken along with the main treatment (medical or surgical), and their main functions are to help relieve pain and inflammation, as well as restore the structure of damaged tissues.

Contraindications and side effects

Since Propalin is a synthetic medicine, it is not suitable for everyone. In particular, the medicine is prohibited from being given to pregnant and lactating females.

The drug is also used with caution in animals with diabetes, Cushing's syndrome and kidney or liver disease, and can also provoke the development of the following side effects:

  • diarrhea or soft stools;
  • the appearance of unreasonable restless behavior in the animal;
  • a sharp increase in heart rate;
  • increased blood pressure;
  • the appearance of shortness of breath.

Most side effects go away on their own immediately after stopping treatment. However, it is worth considering that the effect of the drug does not last long, and after a long break in taking the medicine, involuntary urination may reappear.

Attention! In case of an overdose of the drug, side effects that are more life-threatening to the animal may develop. In particular, the dog may experience convulsions, tremors and even lethargy

You also need to pay attention to the fact that Propalin can negatively interact with some medications. In particular, the drug can provoke the development of severe side effects if the pet undergoes additional treatment:

  • beta blockers;
  • atropine;
  • insulin;
  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Propalin can also weaken the work of drugs that normalize urine pH. You should definitely consult a veterinarian before giving your animal any medication (including vitamins).

Contraindications and precautions

If the cat is hypersensitive to the main active ingredient, use of the drug is prohibited. The product can be used with caution (only with the permission of a veterinarian) in the presence of minor pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract. For diabetes mellitus, impaired renal and liver function, Alizin is prohibited from use, as this can lead to a number of negative consequences. In such a situation, you should resort to the help of analogues of the drug. No serious side effects are observed. When administering the medication, allergic reactions and pain in the injection area may occur, which provoke the appearance of local inflammation. Some cats experience a significant decrease in appetite. As a rule, such symptoms disappear in the first 5-7 days. A disposable needle should be used for each injection. When using the medicine, you must follow the rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions. Before and after the injection, you must wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. If Alizin gets on the skin or mucous membranes, they should be washed with a sufficient amount of water. There is no prohibition on using the drug simultaneously with other drugs (for example, antibiotics).

Additional Tips

Since disturbances in the tone of the urethral sphincter cannot be completely cured with oral medications alone, the animal will have to be given Propalin throughout its life. Even if the animal has completely stopped suffering from involuntary urination upon adoption, it is still necessary to visit the veterinarian at least once every six months. But if any side effects occur, you must immediately make an emergency appointment. We also must not forget that the dosage of Propalin is calculated based on weight, individually for each animal. Therefore, it is recommended to weigh your dog periodically. If there is a sharp increase or decrease in weight, you should consult your doctor to recalculate the required dose of the medicine.

It must be remembered that even if a pet suffers from urinary incontinence, this does not mean that he cannot lead a normal life. Firstly, you can purchase special veterinary diapers. Secondly, if functional insufficiency of the urethral sphincter is confirmed, it is necessary to regularly give the dog Propalin. Thanks to two simple rules, even if an incident happens to an animal, the carpets and furniture in the apartment will not be hopelessly damaged. The medicine quickly enters the bloodstream from the gastrointestinal tract, but is also quickly eliminated from the body. Therefore, it is imperative to give Propalin to your dog at least 2-3 times a day.

Propalin analogues

Propalin is undoubtedly one of the most effective remedies for eliminating urinary incontinence in animals. However, it cannot always be found in veterinary pharmacies. In this case, the doctor can replace it with an analogue. The following are analogues of propane for dogs:

  1. Dietrin. Available in capsule form. It is a “human” drug, therefore it is sold in a regular pharmacy. The drug contains the same main active ingredient as in propane. It is quite difficult to calculate the exact dosage for an animal on your own, so it is better to entrust this to a veterinarian.
  2. Ovestin. Available in the form of tablets, ointments and suppositories, it is also a “human” drug. Its main active ingredient is the female hormone estrogen. This drug is designed to combat age-related changes, including urinary incontinence.
  3. Palin. This remedy is an antibiotic. Most often, the drug is prescribed if incontinence problems are associated with bacterial infections. Palin for cats and dogs is a good remedy for cystitis. This drug is produced in the form of capsules, tablets and suppositories.

It is worth noting that the declared analogues are much more expensive than the original drug. It is noteworthy that in ordinary pharmacies you can find the drug propolin, which is intended for the treatment of liver diseases in humans and has nothing in common with propalin for dogs. The composition of propolin includes propolis, which is how it gets its name.

How to use

The use of the drug is possible if 45 days have not passed since mating. Alysine is suitable for both cats and dogs. The drug is produced in the form of a yellowish solution. Packaging: 10 ml in the form of glass bottles, a solution for subcutaneous injection.

After an abortion occurs, a veterinary ultrasound examination is prescribed. Also, in the case of treatment for pyometra, it is necessary to visit a veterinarian to exclude the presence of cysts and tumors. The dosage of alisine in this case is announced by the doctor.

The dosage of the drug is regulated by the weight of the animal - per 1 kg there is 0.33 hundred ml of medicine. After two weeks (or another time announced by a specialist), the effect of the drug is monitored by ultrasound. In the early stages of pregnancy, such a study is carried out after 20 days, and in the middle stages - after eight days. If an incomplete miscarriage is detected, the drug is re-administered according to the recommendation or prescription of specialists. The use of alisin during a long pregnancy ends in physiological labor, accompanied by stagnation of milk.

The drug is used only after the end of the estrus period. Alizin is administered to animals under conditions of strict sanitation in the area of the animal's withers subcutaneously. For cats, the drug is prescribed once, the dose should not exceed 5 ml. If the injection volume is larger, the product is injected into different areas. The injection site must be massaged after injection; it may still hurt for some time.

The popular drug alizin has long established itself in the veterinary markets. It can be characterized not only by the maximum effect of use, but also by the cost, which is quite loyal. It is easy to buy the product in chain veterinary stores and online pharmacies at a price of 2600-3300 rubles. per bottle of 10 ml. Alysine analogues are, to some extent, mastomethrin (for the treatment of pyometra); the use of mifepristone in veterinary medicine has not been studied.

Alysine has no side effects. The drug should be used with caution in the presence of minor disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. Contraindications include the presence of an allergy to the active substance. Also, the drug should not be administered if there is impaired renal, adrenal or liver function. Diabetes mellitus in a cat clearly prohibits the use of alysine. Another possible consequence of taking the medication is a lack of appetite, which is not observed in all cats, and, as a rule, goes away after 5-7 days. Some cats may react to Alysine with diarrhea or vomiting (this may be consistent with an overdose).

Weakness and other side effects

The use of the product should be based on sensitivity testing of bacteria isolated from the animal. Hypersensitivity to the substance in rare cases causes:

  1. Pain in the stomach or intestines.
  2. Nausea and vomiting.
  3. Dizziness.
  4. Arrhythmia.
  5. Dyspepsia.
  6. Skin rash.
  7. Immune complex disorders.

The appearance of a slight swelling does not require any immediate action on the part of the owner. Antibiotics cause loss of appetite in many pets. If your pet refuses food, there is no need to force him to eat. Low-sodium beef, chicken, or bone broth is beneficial.

If the dog feels noticeably worse:

  • body temperature begins to exceed 39°C;
  • lethargy becomes more visible, turns into weakness;
  • convulsions appeared.

In such cases, you should immediately contact your veterinarian.

Composition and expiration date

A macrolide antibiotic is a type of medicine used to treat and prevent a wide range of bacterial infections. The drug stops the proliferation of bacteria, preventing their ability to produce proteins.
