Description of the drug Advocate
Advocate drops are a powerful insecticide-acaricidal agent (a remedy against insects and ticks), the active substances of which are imidacloprid and moxidectin. The first substance causes convulsions, paralysis and subsequent death in insects. For humans and animals, imidacloprid is of moderate toxicity, that is, pets can become poisoned. Moxidectin has a similar effect. But both of these substances enhance the effect of each other, so their content in the drug is reduced to a dose that is safe for animals.
The drug Advocate is safe for animals
Advocate is produced in the form of a solution, which is packaged in polypropylene pipettes with a volume of 0.4 or 0.8 ml. Each capsule is well sealed in an aluminum blister, which is designed for 3, 4 or 6 ampoules and is placed in a cardboard box. In this form - in a blister and in a box - you need to store the medicine away from sunlight, food and other people's hands and paws at a temperature of 0 to 30 ° C (you do not need to put it in the refrigerator).
Ways to use Advocate
Advantage for cats: instructions for use
The medicine is used according to the regimens described in the manufacturer's instructions, no more than once every 28 days. If it is necessary to destroy fleas, lice, lice, a single application is enough, but in order to prevent re-infection, the drops must be used repeatedly at intervals of almost a month.
Before treating ear scabies caused by mites, the animals' ears are cleaned of fresh and dried scabs and parasite secretions. To do this, use cotton swabs moistened with special lotions. Advocate is not dripped into the ears; it is applied to the animal’s withers.
Dried scabs in an animal's ears
Note! Advanced otodectosis can lead to inflammatory processes in the inner ear and brain, and hearing loss.
Treatment of sarcoptic mange (infestation with subcutaneous mites) will require using Advocate 2 times, decometosis (scabies) - up to 4 times. You can rid your animal of worms after a one-time use of drops; to prevent infection, pets are treated once every 28 days.
Contraindications and side effects
The drug should not be used in the following cases:
- the cat is sick or recovering (we must wait for a full recovery);
- the animal is exhausted;
- the cat's weight is less than 1 kg;
- the animal is not yet nine weeks old.
People have very mixed opinions about whether Advocate can be used if a cat has worms, so consult a specialist. The vet recommended that I wait four days, three of which I gave the cat an anthelmintic.
If parasites have settled on a pregnant or lactating cat or kittens that are not yet nine weeks old, be sure to contact a specialist. He may recommend another product that is safe for animals or select a dosage that is gentle for them. Don’t decide for yourself: you can kill your pets.
Pregnant and lactating cats should not be treated with Advocate
The manufacturer lists only a slight allergic reaction at the site of skin contact with the drug as side effects. It goes away within a few hours, so there is no need to do anything about it. The animal's health does not deteriorate. If you notice that he feels unwell, this means that the drug somehow got into the body, urgently take your pet to the veterinary clinic.
Drops Advocate for cats - reviews
Reviews about flea drops Advocate are mostly positive, although there are relatively few of them, despite the fact that the drug is well distributed. Perhaps this is due to the relatively high price.
Customer Reviews
Helen writes: ()
After my complaints that it was absolutely impossible for my cat to pour anything into her mouth or force her to eat a crushed tablet (I had an unsuccessful experience), the veterinarian recommended “Advocate” drops for the withers. I bought “Advocate” at the veterinary pharmacy “Doctor Vet” (Minsk). One tube of drops for cats weighing up to 4 kg cost 13.50 rubles. or ok. 430 RUR rub. The tube is packed in a blister, on the back of which the composition is indicated and for which animals the drug is intended.
The drops are applied to the animal's skin; to do this, you first need to separate the fur. I didn’t have time to notice what color the drops were and what consistency, because the cat was spinning. All I can say is that they have a noticeable medicinal smell. In general, as the doctor assured me, these drops are well tolerated by animals. But after treatment, the animal cannot be washed for 4 days. After application, the application area becomes so greasy. The fat content gradually disappears after a few days.
I did not notice any peculiarities in the cat’s behavior within 3 days after using “Lawyer”. Nothing has changed either in the regimen or in the stool - I did not notice any inclusions in it that the doctor spoke about, in case there is a helminthic infestation. Unfortunately, the coughing did not stop either. We will continue to look for the reason.

We bought a lawyer to get rid of ear mites, as they say that it is effective in this matter. We were satisfied. As for the price, it’s not that high, because it gets rid of helminths, fleas, and scabies mites. If you buy all these medications separately, it may be more expensive.
Also, if your cat has ear mites, do not torment her with drops in her ears, especially since they need to be dripped for several days and they create unpleasant sensations for your cat. Buy a lawyer and get rid of all this in one go.

Inspector drops for cats: instructions for use
Drops penetrate the lipid layer, which becomes the main source of long-term action of the product. The mechanism of operation of the constituent substances is that:
- moxidectin is safe for cats: it slowly, over 4-9 days, penetrates the blood plasma, spreads throughout the animal’s body and is delivered to infected organs, provokes paralysis in ectoparasites and scabies mites, which leads to their death;
- Imidacloprid affects fleas, lice, and lice. It is distributed superficially over the epidermis and fur of animals, and remains on them throughout the entire period of action of the product.
The active ingredients of the product work over time, accumulating in the sebaceous glands and skin.
Important! Advocate drops for cats are applied to the withers of animals, the medicine is effective for 28 days.
Amazing capabilities of the drug
Directions for use and dosage for cats
As we have already found out, “Advocate” is a complex drops for cats used against worms and fleas. Now let's look at the features of use and dosage of this medicine.
Like most drugs in drop form, “Advocate” must be applied to dry skin without any damaged areas . You need to carefully spread the fur with your fingers in the area of the shoulder blades and base of the neck and squeeze out the substance. This zone was not chosen at random, but to prevent the possibility of the animal licking the medicine and getting it inside the body. The smallest medicinal dose of the drug reaches 0.1 mg per kilogram of pet weight.
The instructions for most medications for cats indicate the proper measures for each category of cats by weight. But how to determine the weight of your beloved pet? Approximately?
Did you know? One of the best devices for measuring a cat's weight is a canter. All you need to do is place an empty bag of sufficient size on the floor. The cat will definitely want to climb into it (tested many times on different cats). Then you hook the handles of the bag with a canter and weigh your pet.
Let's turn to a special table that shows the standards for using the drug "Advocate" according to the cat's body weight.
Table of weight categories of cats and dosage of the drug:
Cat weight, kg | The inscription on the pipette | Medication dose (nominal pipette volume), ml | Dose of active component, mg/kg
imidacloprid | moxidectin
Less than 4 | For small cats | 0,4 | Minimum 10.0 | Minimum 1.0 |
From 4 to 8 | For large cats | 0,8 | From 10.0 to 20.0 | From 1.0 to 2.0 |
More than 8 | A combination of pipettes is used at the rate of 0.1 ml for every 1 kg of mass |
Drops on the withers are a convenient and safe way to combat fleas and ticks in cats. Such drugs are “Bars”, “Advantage”, “Frontline”.
Frequency of treatment for various diseases:
- To rid your pet of fleas, drops are administered once.
- The drug is prescribed once for 1 month for the purpose of comprehensive preventive measures and treatment of allergic dermatitis.
- Ear scabies are also dealt with in one go. For effective therapy, the ear canal should be cleaned of exudate and scabs. If necessary, the course of treatment can be repeated with a pause of 30 days.
- Anthelmintic treatment of cats is carried out once in treatment situations, and for preventive measures the recommended treatment period is 1 month.
Indications for use
To connect to the therapy of a particular medication, you should first familiarize yourself with the indications for use. "Lawyer" is no exception. Thus, this medicinal mixture is prescribed for treatment and preventive measures for otodectosis, entomosis, intestinal nematodes, immature and sexually mature phases of worm development, and also dirofilariasis.
Did you know? During the distant Middle Ages, active extermination measures were used against cats, since the church considered these animals guilty of maintaining contact with the Devil.
The extermination of felines has led to a disastrous increase in the population of rats, which have become carriers of rat fleas. Namely, they were active carriers of the bubonic plague, the epidemic of which killed more than half of the population of Europe.
Composition of the drug
The drug in question consists of two main components that have a detrimental effect on insects. This:
- Imidacloprid - has the ability to penetrate the receptors of arthropods, leading to disruption of the transmission of nerve impulses, which causes paralysis and further death in parasites.
- Moxidectin is a semi-synthetic compound belonging to the milbemycin group that destroys the connection between muscle tissue and the nervous system of insects.
“Lawyer”, drops on the withers for cats, contains the following additional substances: propylene carbonate, benzyl alcohol, butylated hydroxytoluene.
Contraindications for use
Like any drug, “Advocate” has a number of contraindications that must be taken into account so that your pet does not get harmed. Let's look at them in the list below.
- First of all, you should not apply this medicine to the body of a sick animal. However, the etiology of the disease in this situation will not be the most important aspect.
- Emaciated animals, such as those starving on the street and picked up by you, must also gain weight first, and only then receive flea treatment. Provided that the street animal is of normal weight, you can apply the product without fear.
- Kittens under nine weeks of age should not be treated for fleas and other parasites. This rule must be observed, since at this age the use of the drug in animals is dangerous and contraindicated.
- Provided that your pet is infected with worms, you should also not treat it for fleas. First, remove internal parasites from his body, since their toxic waste products in combination with the medicine can harm the pet.
- If your pet has recently suffered from any disease, but is now recovering, we still advise you to hold off on treating it for ectoparasites. This is necessary so as not to stall the process of already existing recovery.
- Pregnant cats should also not coat their skin with Advocate. Wait until your pet gives birth. If you picked up a cat on the street and want to sterilize it before the kittens are born, perform this operation first, let the animal recover, and only then begin treatment with “Advocate” for cats.
If your animal is sick, then it is best to postpone the use of the “Advocate” product until the period when its health condition becomes satisfactory.
As you can see, there are contraindications, but they are all mainly related to:
- your pet's current health status;
- by his age.
The product has no other contraindications, for example, breed or gender. It is suitable for use by every representative of domestic cats and cats.
Please note: in some situations, the use of the product in the presence of any of the contraindications listed above is allowed, but only a veterinarian can authorize use in this case. The use of the medicine should also be done under supervision.
If your pet's condition changes after using the product, notify your veterinarian immediately
So, for example, in rare cases, veterinarians allow treating cats that are not too emaciated and picked up from the street, provided that you have other cats, dogs, or other animals at home that can also become infected with fleas from a new family member. However, it is important to monitor the animal especially carefully in the first days after treatment in order to prevent the occurrence of negative effects of various types.
Contraindications for cats and features of use
Despite its high effectiveness, Advocate drops cannot always be used to treat parasites. In what cases should you wait with treatment or cancel it altogether:
- in cases of extreme exhaustion of the animal;
- during an acute inflammatory process, the drops will be a blow to the fragile body;
- in the postoperative period, you should wait for complete recovery;
- During pregnancy and nursing, adult cats should not use the drug.
Additionally, you should consult a veterinarian if an animal over 1 year old has worms. The doctor will assess the animal’s condition and give an exact recommendation on when and in what dose to apply Advocate drops for cats against fleas.
If you have any doubts about the animal’s health or harm, you should once again seek help from a veterinarian. Self-treatment with an insecticide can be dangerous in special cases.
In exceptional cases, applying drops to the skin leads to local redness. After a couple of hours, the irritation will go away on its own; there is no need to wash off the insecticide. If the cat becomes lethargic and starts vomiting, then you should immediately take him to the veterinarian. Most likely the drug was ingested and the animal was poisoned.

Advocate can be used in complex therapy of allergic dermatitis caused by fleas.
Imidacloprid, which is part of the drug, belongs to the group of chloronicotinyl insecticides, the mechanism of action of which is based on interaction with acetylcholine receptors of arthropods and disruption of the transmission of nerve impulses, causing the death of insects.
Moxidectin is a semisynthetic compound from the milbemycin group. Having a stimulating effect on the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid and binding to postsynaptic receptors, it causes disruption of muscle innervation, paralysis and death of ectoparasites and nematodes.

Before use, remove the protective cap from the pipette and, positioning it vertically, pierce the protective membrane of the pipette nose (putting the cap on the back side), then remove it again. The drug, by spreading the fur, is applied to the animal in places inaccessible for licking, directly between the shoulder blades at the base of the neck.

Depending on the weight of the cat, Advocate drops of different packaging are used in the doses indicated in the table:

imidacloprid | moxidectin
Up to 4 | For small cats | 0,4 | Minimum 10.0 | Minimum 1.0 |

Over 8 | Use the appropriate combination of pipettes |
When treating cats weighing more than 8 kg, the drug is used in a dose of 0.1 ml per kg of animal weight, using a combination of pipettes of various packaging.
To kill fleas, cats are treated once. In a comprehensive program for the prevention and treatment of allergic dermatitis caused by fleas, Advocate drops are used once a month.
To treat otodectosis (ear scabies), the drug is applied to the skin once. During the treatment process, it is recommended to clean the ear canal of exudate and scabs, and in case of complications with otitis media, prescribe antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drugs. Do not inject directly into the ear canal. If necessary, the course of treatment is repeated after 1 month.
For deworming of cats with nematodes of the gastrointestinal tract, the drug is used for therapeutic purposes once, for prophylactic purposes - once a month.
In order to prevent dirofilariasis in regions unfavorable for the disease, the drug is used in the spring-summer-autumn period: before the start of the flight of mosquitoes (carriers of the pathogen D. immitis) once, then once a month and the last time in the season no earlier than 1 month after completion of insect flight. Advocate does not destroy sexually mature heartworms, but reduces the number of microfilariae circulating in the blood. If the animal lives or has a short stay in regions unfavorable for the disease, before prescribing the drug for the purpose of dirofilariasis prevention, it is recommended to diagnose the animal for the presence of the disease.
Advocate is prohibited from use on kittens under 9 weeks of age, patients with infectious diseases and convalescent animals.
Treatment of cats weighing less than 1 kg, pregnant and lactating cats should be carried out with caution under the supervision of a veterinarian.
Advocate drops should not be applied to wet or damaged skin, bathe the animal in open water for 4 days after treatment with the drug, and also use the drug simultaneously with medications containing macrocyclic lactones.
As a rule, there are no side effects when using Advocate drops in accordance with these instructions. In rare cases, the animal may experience individual reactions (redness of the skin, itching, oily fur, erythema, vomiting), which resolve spontaneously and do not require the use of medications. In case of accidental licking, in rare cases, short-term neurological signs and increased salivation may appear.
Side effects and contraindications, special instructions
It is prohibited to use Advocate for kittens under 2 months of age. It is not recommended to use the product for weakened pets, as well as cats during the period of bearing kittens and lactation.
Side effects from the use of an antiparasitic drug occur in the case of individual intolerance to one of the active components of the drug. Itching, erythema on the skin and nausea may occur.
It is important that during treatment, the drug does not get into the cat’s eyes or oral mucosa. After treating your pet, it is not recommended to bathe it, as the effectiveness of the drug is reduced. If an animal licks the drug, drooling or signs of intoxication may occur. As a rule, symptoms go away on their own without outside intervention. In rare cases, if signs of poisoning do not go away, it is necessary to take your pet to a veterinary clinic.
