Suspension Prazicide Plus for cats: instructions for use and reviews

Very often, pet owners are faced with the need to rid their pets of intestinal parasites. Infection with helminths leads to intoxication of the body, exhaustion and death of pets. Prazicide Plus suspension for cats is an effective remedy for the treatment and prevention of helminthic infestation in both adult animals and kittens.

Properties of the drug for cats

Prazicide Plus is a combination product in the form of a light yellow liquid with a viscous consistency.
During storage it may separate, but when shaken it returns to its original state. The medicine is packaged in bottles of 5, 7, 9, 10 and 15 ml. The package contains 1 dispenser syringe and instructions for use.

What helminths is it used for?

High efficiency is observed in the presence of roundworms and tapeworms (Toxocara, Ascaris, Echinococcus, Nematodes, etc.) in the body.

Mechanism of action on parasites

Thanks to the active components included in the composition, the helminths' intracellular metabolism at the calcium level is disrupted, the muscles are paralyzed, and the worms die.

After taking it for a short period of time, the medicine is absorbed by the intestinal and gastric mucosa. Subsequently, the active components of the drug penetrate into the animal’s bloodstream.

When the substance binds to plasma protein compounds, a uniform distribution of praziquantel and pyrantel is observed in the fluids and tissue structures of the cat’s body.

The maximum concentration of the drug is achieved after 3 hours.

How is it eliminated from the body?

The medicine breaks down in the liver. Metabolites are excreted after 60 minutes through urine and feces.

Hazard Class

The product does not have a negative effect on the animal’s body and, according to GOST, has a 4th degree of danger.

In other words, if the recommendations are followed, the drug is non-toxic and does not have a sensitizing or teratogenic effect. Pets tolerate it well in most cases.

The manufacturer is Api-San, who made sure that the product can be used both for an adult cat and for a small kitten that has picked up helminths.

Drops Prazitsid complex

If it is convenient to use drops, then there is also an option for external use. They are dripped onto the withers, ticks, fleas and various ectoparasites also die.

The drops are light yellow and are sold in small polymer pipettes. Each contains its own dosage, as there is a prazicide complex for adult cats and for kittens. This determines the safety of using a product with the third hazard class.

Suspension plus

The action of the suspension is based on three active components: pyrantel pamoate, praziquantel and fenbendazole. The color of the solution is light yellow, the drug is sold in polymer bottles, dosed in the range of 5-15 ml.

There is a suspension developed for kittens, which is expressed in a change in the concentration of the active components.

Pills

Pyrantel pomoate and praziquantel are to blame for the effectiveness of the tablets. The tablets look familiar in white or white-gray with a round shape.

The tablets are small in size with a weight of 0.2 mg and are packaged in blisters, 6 pieces each.

Indications for use

Prazicide Plus is prescribed by veterinarians for the preventive and therapeutic purposes of the following pathological processes provoked by parasites:

  • cestodiasis;

  • nematodes;
  • mixed nematode-cestodose infestations.

It is worth noting that the effective effect of the active components is observed at any stage of the development of the disease caused by helminths.

Reviews from cat owners and veterinarians

Cat owners and veterinarians recommend Prazicide for kittens.

Anna Petrova. I have 2 Norwegian Forest kittens. There was a suspicion that they had worms. I treated both of them with Prazicide according to the instructions. Both of their worms came out within 24 hours. It turned out to be a very effective remedy. She gave it with a dispenser, which was attached to the suspension, pouring the medicine deep into the root of the tongue. Both kittens practically did not notice the treatment. Nothing has changed in behavior or appetite. I recommend Prazicide because I myself have verified its effectiveness and safety.

Elena Bolotova, veterinarian. I constantly remind my patients of the need to worm their patients. Once every 3 months, it is imperative to give kittens an anthelmintic. A kitten can become infected with parasites even from dirt from shoes brought from the entrance. I recommend Prazicide, since the vast majority of clients then talk about its effectiveness.

Boris Dashchenko. My wife and I have a family of Don Sphynxes. There have already been 3 litters - we carry out preventive treatment for helminths at about 4 weeks. No consequences or side effects were ever observed.

Composition of the drug

This is a combination drug.

The main active ingredients are:

  • febantel;
  • praziquantel;
  • pyrantel.

The medicine also contains additional components:

  • sucralose;

  • glycerol;
  • sodium benzoate;
  • aspasvit Ts-200;
  • lemon acid;
  • defoamer, etc.

Mechanism of action

Prazicide for cats is an antiparasitic drug. The active components included in the drug cause disruption of intracellular calcium metabolism, paralysis of muscle tissue and death of parasites.

After use, the drug is absorbed by the mucous membrane of the stomach and small intestine for a short time, then enters the general bloodstream. After binding to plasma proteins, pyrantel and praziquantel are evenly distributed in the tissues and fluids of the body. The maximum concentration is observed after three hours. The breakdown of the drug occurs in the liver. Metabolites are excreted by the kidneys and intestines within 24 hours.

How to calculate the dosage correctly

The method of using Prazicide suspension depends on indicators such as the pet’s body weight, age, and health characteristics..

The amount of product depending on the weight of the animal

For kittens over 3 weeks old, use 1 ml of the drug per 1 kg of body weight.

For adults, veterinarians recommend a dosage of 1 ml per 3 kg of weight.

Frequency of reception

The suspension is taken once with food or the required amount is squeezed onto the root of the tongue using a dispenser syringe.
When diagnosing a disease that occurs in a severe form, repeated deworming is necessary, which is carried out 10 days after the first dose of the drug.

Reviews from veterinarians

The veterinarian always offers to examine the animal and identify its diseases, because there is a chance that the cat cat cannot be treated temporarily due to various health problems.

Prazicide is prescribed when indicated or for prophylaxis, but only to completely healthy animals. If the infestation is very severe and the animal is already exhausted, the doctor will suggest another method of treatment. At home, you should not thoughtlessly risk the well-being of your beloved cat.

Prazicide during pregnancy and lactation

For cats that are bearing cubs, the drug is prescribed approximately 21 days before lambing.
In this case, you should be extremely careful and not self-medicate. All actions must be performed under the strict supervision of a veterinary clinic specialist.

Lactating females are allowed to undergo deworming after childbirth no earlier than three weeks later.

If the dosage is observed, Prazicide is well tolerated by the cat and does not cause addiction. This product should not be used under the following conditions:

  • individual intolerance to its components;
  • exhaustion;
  • infectious diseases;
  • being in the recovery stage;
  • first half of pregnancy;
  • less than 3 weeks of age.

Prazicide Complex should not be prescribed to cats bearing kittens or lactating animals. The use of tablets and suspensions is permissible 21 days before birth and 14–21 days after and only under the supervision of a veterinarian.

Possible side effects

Prazicide is a low-toxic suspension. In most cases, it is tolerated without negative consequences and does not have a negative effect on the fetus during intrauterine development.

However, veterinarians do not recommend giving it in the following cases:

  • first weeks of pregnancy;

  • pets under 3 weeks of age;
  • in case of individual intolerance to active components;
  • with a tendency to develop allergic reactions.

If all recommendations are strictly followed, complications rarely occur.

In some cases, the following side effects may occur while taking the drug:

  • attacks of nausea and vomiting;
  • diarrhea;
  • foam at the mouth.

Such reactions do not require therapeutic intervention and go away on their own after some time.

Description and main properties

The suspension is a combined anthelmintic agent with a wide spectrum of action, which is used for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes when pets are affected by roundworms and tapeworms.

The drug is low-toxic and does not have teratogenic, sensitizing or embryotoxic effects. It is distinguished by the absence of side effects.

The presence of a convenient measuring syringe allows you to accurately dose the product. The suspension is convenient to use because it can be given in pure form or added to food.

Precautionary measures

When working with the suspension, it is recommended to adhere to certain safety and hygiene rules.

For people

During the process, smoking, food and liquid are prohibited.

After completing work, you should thoroughly wash your hands with soap or any detergent.

If the medicine accidentally gets into the eyes, mouth or mucous membranes, they must be rinsed with plenty of running water. If an allergy develops, it is recommended to immediately seek medical help.

If your skin is hypersensitive, it is better to wear rubber gloves on your hands to avoid direct contact and accidental exposure to the medication.

An empty bottle of the drug cannot be reused at home. It must be disposed of with other waste.

For animals

Prazicide is safe for cats. However, during the procedure you need to ensure that the drug does not get into the eyes or nose of the animal.

Storage conditions and shelf life

Prazicide should be stored in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, at a temperature of 0-25 ºС. The suspension must be inaccessible to animals and children. Do not leave the suspension near food and feed. The shelf life of the medicine is 2 years.

Important. Worms in kittens are not only a problem for pets, but also pose a serious threat to human health. Toxacorosis and echinococcosis, migrating throughout the human body, can enter organs, causing pathologies. Children are at greater risk than adults, as they are more willing to communicate with pets. They are much more likely to become infected. Therefore, antihelminthic prophylaxis must be carried out every quarter - once every three months.

Consequences of overdose

If the instructions are not followed and the dosage is incorrectly selected, the following symptoms may appear:

  • lack of appetite;

  • disruption of organ function in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • increased salivation.

If these signs are noticed, the animal must be urgently shown to a specialist who will carry out procedures to remove the drug from the body.

Directions for use and dosage: Prazicide tablets for dogs

For preventive purposes, deworming is carried out quarterly, as well as before each vaccination. For pregnant females, the drug is prescribed 3 weeks before the expected birth with caution, under the supervision of a veterinarian, for lactating females - 2-3 weeks after birth.

High-quality analogues

The Api-San company produces another high-quality anthelmintic - Dirofen. It comes in the form of a viscous suspension that dogs readily accept due to its sweet taste. In addition to the main components - pyrantel and praziquantel, the drug contains pumpkin oil. Thanks to it, a deep cleansing of the intestines occurs in the evening, along with eggs and worms.

The German company Bayer produces the broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug Drontal.

Puppies are given a suspension marked “Junior”, and adult dogs are given meat-flavored tablets. Both medications begin to act on the day of administration due to a complex of components: pyrantel, praziquantel and febantel.

Drops

How to properly apply drops to the withers? Many even experienced owners do not always know the correct method, so the instructions will be described below.

  • Don’t make your cat nervous again, try to calm her down.
  • The withers are the place between the shoulder blades. It is at the withers that drops are used, since the cat cannot reach this place on its own. Should be applied to dry, intact skin.
  • After applying the required amount of liquid, lightly rub it into the animal’s fur.
  • At first, limit water treatments. Then most likely the product will be washed off and will not have the desired effect.
  • Treat your cat's favorite places against helminths. There is a possibility that parasites or their eggs are there too.
