Maine Coon and child: relationships with children, description and character of the breed

How did the Maine Coon breed appear?

There is conflicting information about the origin of Maine Coons. The first story of the origin of animals tells the story of an English navigator who always took long-haired cats with him on his next sea voyage. In the ports of New England, this captain got off the ship and mixed his animals with wild local cats. As a result, long-haired kittens were born, which the captain distributed to his friends. He called the bred breed “Kun cats” - that was his last name.

There is a story that Maine Coon cats were the result of the mating of longhair cats with English shorthairs.

The second version of the origin is completely unrealistic, but it still exists. According to her, the breed originated from a raccoon and semi-wild domestic cats. Of course, this option is refuted by genetic indicators, but how else to explain the animals’ fluffy tail and their black marbled color, common among the breed. Another assumption is that their ancestors are wild lynxes with domestic cats. It probably exists because cats have characteristic tufts on the tips of their ears.

According to the first two theories, we can conclude that Maine Coons originated from mating long-haired foreign cats with local short-haired pets. It is possible that the British brought the first ones, but there is still an opinion that the Vikings helped here in the eleventh century. The last assumption is due to the similarity of Maine Coon cats with the Norwegian forest cats that usually accompany the Vikings on their voyages.

The Maine Coon breed is recognized by all felinological organizations. Each of these systems offers its own standard for a purebred cat, but in the end they are all similar to each other.

Maine Coon appearance

The external characteristics of these animals are varied. Their color can be dark and even red, but some distinctive features still remain unchanged. There are 2 types of Maine Coons - American and European. American cats have a rustic head shape, wide bones, and stockiness. European animals are distinguished by longer tails (the length exceeds the size of the elongated hind legs of a cat), elongated body and wild look.

Structure

Maine Coons are unusually hardy and strong. This can be said by its characteristic appearance. The weight of an adult cat is 4.5–13 kg, and the Maine Coon reaches one meter in length.

Head

The cat has a square muzzle with high cheekbones. Its width and length usually go well with the size of the body and head. Seals are famous for their strong chin, which shows a 90-degree angle in profile. The profile is soft, without stops or humps.

The animal's ears are large, set high and wide, pointed at the tips, and have tufts. Maine Coons have large eyes, slightly slanted and wide-set, slightly protruding.

Body

The body of the animal is muscular and has a wide chest. Cats are smaller in size, unlike cats. Their weight ranges from 4.5 to 7 kg, but for cats it usually ranges from 6 to 13 kg. The Maine Coon's body is harmonious, long, and not weak.

Seals' legs are set wide, they are strong and straight, of medium length and proportional to the body. Cats' paws are round and large, with tufts of hair. The base of their tail is long and wide, with abundant hair, and the tail is narrow at the end.

Wool

The fur of cats is thick, fluffy, straight and silky. Almost all Maine Coons have a collar.

Color

The standard eye color ranges from copper, golden-green, gold, to green. Blue eyes are usually pronounced in bicolor and white Maine Coons. Animals come in the following colors:

  • white (White);
  • black (Black);
  • blue (Blue);
  • red (Red);
  • cream (Cream);
  • marble (Classic Tabby Pattern);
  • brindle (Mackerel Tabby Pattern);
  • Patched Tabby Pattern;
  • silver (Silver Tabby);
  • Red Tabby (classic / mackerel);
  • black tiger / marbled / torby (Brown Tabby (classic / mackerel/patched);
  • blue tiger / marbled / torby (Blue Tabby (classic / mackerel/patched), etc.

Defects in appearance

Maine Coons are not always allowed to participate in the show. The following problems may be an obstacle to this:

  • polycryptorchidism (undescended ovaries into the scrotum);
  • equal length of fur on back and belly;
  • The following colors and their shades are prohibited: brown;
  • lilac;
  • chocolate;
  • Siamese.
  • blindness or strabismus;
  • polydactyly (polydactyly);
  • crease or absence of tail, partial or complete;
  • the presence of a xiphoid process;
  • the presence of blue eyes with the exception of white cats.
  • Closed and aggressive Maine Coons are excluded from breeding. Such cats are rare, since animals of this breed are usually quite friendly.

    My friend's Maine Coon has a brindle color. Now the animal is an adult and quite large (about the size of an average dog). But this pussy is so smart that it seems to understand everything right away. I am a frequent visitor to a friend's family, so their pet treats me like a member of the family. Sometimes he climbs onto my lap and waits for affection. And when he receives it, he makes such interesting sounds that make you just want to kiss him. Lately I've also been thinking about buying a Maine Coon.

    White Maine Coons have blue and gold eyes.

    Maine Coon cats are black in color.

    There are even Maine Coons with a red color. The cream color goes well with the golden eyes typical of Maine Coons.

    Maine Coons can also have a brindle color, which is common among outbred cats. Silver Maine Coons are unusually beautiful.

    Tortoiseshell Maine Coons can have yellow, green or golden eyes. Blue Maine Coons usually have golden or green eyes.

    Common causes of voice loss in cats

    The nightly serenades of March singers until you become hoarse are not the only explanation for your pet’s hoarse and quiet voice. All reasons can be divided into three groups:

    1. Mechanical damage, small objects getting into the cat’s throat.

    Kittens suffer more often: while playing, they can swallow small, sharp objects. The owner entertains the pet with a toy tied to a string. The kitten, having caught up with the rustling foil bow, begins to chew it. A sharp piece of metallized paper gets into the throat and gets stuck. And how many interesting but dangerous games take place without human control! Adult cats suffer from damage from bones in poultry and fish meat (small elastic bones, scales in river fish). Curious animals explore new objects, often tasting pine needles and Christmas tree decorations. On New Year's weekend, queues line up to see veterinarians due to injuries to the larynx and pharynx in cats. The owners were concerned about the disappearance of their pets' voices.

    2. Chemical poisoning, dehydration.

    Cats avoid objects with a sharp, pungent odor. Of course, no animal will taste spilled gasoline or paint products. For cats to become poisoned, it is enough to inhale toxic fumes. People often do not notice that using air freshener or nail polish remover has a depressing effect on the cat. Repeated or prolonged inhalation of chemicals leads to poisoning. The cat wheezes, sneezes, refuses to eat, and loses its voice.

    Veterinarians give specific examples. The cat “accompanied” its owner in the hallway every morning. She, having made the final touch, fixed her hair with hairspray, and ran off to work. This went on for several weeks. Another visit to the doctor: the cat experienced loss of voice, nausea and wheezing. The veterinarian, having examined the animal, immediately determined the cause of the disease - smoking in the room, poor ventilation, low air humidity. This was “told” by the smell of cigarette smoke from the fur and changes in the cat’s vocal cords.

    Cats walking unattended can end up in a landfill or construction site where there is a lot of chemical waste. Don't ignore your pet's loss of voice if you don't know what happened. The danger to the animal is a reality.

    Lethargy, lack of playfulness, and an unnatural hoarse sound are some signs of dehydration. Milk, kefir, broth, and any food will not replace clean water. It should be in the cup all the time.

    3. Infectious diseases.

    Cats also suffer from infectious diseases. They have sore throat, otitis media, colds and other infections that are transmitted through the air. The infection cannot affect the host. Some people do not let their cats outside because they are confident in their safety. This is not an option. Drafts, low temperature in the apartment, dampness, and poor nutrition weaken the immune system and will not improve the health of cats.

    How to diagnose the disease? Loss of voice indicates advanced disease. You missed the beginning: the cat sleeps a lot, has a dry nose, watery eyes, and poor appetite. Only a veterinarian will associate the lack of voice with damage to the respiratory system and rhinotracheitis. Or the cause of silent meowing is laryngitis, the mucous membranes of the throat are inflamed, swelling of the larynx is observed, and the vocal cords are clogged with mucus.

    If you take the problems of losing your pet's voice lightly, you may not notice such a dangerous viral disease as calicivirus. Watery ulcers form on the animal's tongue and larynx. They bring a lot of pain and discomfort to cats; it is difficult for them to swallow, meow, and purr.

    Character and behavioral characteristics of the Maine Coon

    In appearance, the animal resembles a predator, but in reality cats are not aggressive. These cats are calm and balanced. They are loyal to humans.

    Positive and negative qualities

    Maine Coons do not require much space, and the voice of these purrs also has its own peculiarity. Largely because of him, Maine Coons received the nickname “gentle giants.” These cats don't use normal cat noises. Rather, they emit a guttural purr that leaves no owner indifferent.

    The Maine Coon is not your average cat that walks around on its own. Unlike representatives of other breeds, these animals take into account the opinion of the owner and will never take revenge if he scolds them for something. Such a pet can be easily toilet trained.

    The owner can often see the Maine Coon watching the view from the window or watching TV. This is due to the natural curiosity of the animal.

    Cohabitation of cats with other animals

    These cats get along well with other pets, but do not like rodents. Domestic predators will get the latter in any case, even if the cage is far away.

    Relationships between Maine Coons and their owners and strangers

    Oddly enough, the devotion of Maine Coons can be compared to that of a dog. They are peaceful and good-natured and get along well with children. Maine Coons are characterized by self-entertainment, however, despite this quality, the animal also requires live communication. Therefore, the owner must devote at least half an hour of his time to the cat per day. Maine Coons are responsive to affection. Cats are alert, but not fearful. In a situation with strangers, they will give preference to observation rather than participation. These pets are highly trainable.

    The Maine Coon does not bother its owner and can find entertainment for itself

    Eternal kittens

    Maine Coons are slow growing cats. They reach sexual maturity at 6.5-10 months. They stop growing only by the age of three. In some cases, this can take up to 5 years.

    Photo: Instagram @chatterie.de.la.villa.verona

    And even after growing up, Maine Coons retain their curiosity and spontaneity. Potential owners must understand that they can climb higher and higher every year. Experienced breeders do not keep valuable or fragile items where the Maine Coon can find them.

    Maine Coon health and life expectancy

    Maine Coons can “boast” not only of their outstanding size, but also of good health. They practically do not get sick, since they have good immunity from birth. A Maine Coon cat can live 15–20 years.

    To rule out urolithiasis, you need to take your pet to the veterinarian once every six months. To prevent this problem, the Maine Coon must eat properly and receive the necessary care.

    Proper nutrition and proper care of the animal will help prevent the onset of urolithiasis, which is typical for Maine Coons.

    The animal may have joint problems. However, a kitten leaves the nursery for a new family usually at the age of 12 weeks. At this time, joint pathologies are immediately visible. To avoid problems with the health of the animal, it is better to take it from those breeders whose reputation is impeccable.

    A Maine Coon has been living in my friend's family for 3 years. During this time, the cat has not had any illnesses, he is cheerful, cheerful and eats well.

    Record-breaking cats

    Maine Coon - care and maintenance

    For quite a long time, Maines occupied an honorable first place among the largest cats in the world: an adult animal reached a weight of ten kilograms!

    The largest Maine Coon in the world is Stewie. He lives in the American town of Reno, Nevada. Stewie is listed in the Guinness Book of Records - his length from the tip of his nose to his tailbone is 123 centimeters.

    His owner, Robin Hendrickson, applied for the record in 2010 due to the fact that all her friends and acquaintances were constantly amazed by the large size of her five-year-old pet. Despite his impressive dimensions, according to the owner’s description, Stewie is an incredibly gentle and loving cat.

    The photo shows how huge Stewie is

    Features of care and maintenance of the Maine Coon

    If the Maine Coon is well-groomed, well-fed and happy, then its owner will not have to worry about health problems. Moreover, Maine Coons are naturally strong and resilient.

    Nutrition

    The Maine Coon's diet can be varied. This includes cat food and natural ingredients.

    Cat food

    There are foods that include special food lines for Maine Coons, designed taking into account the needs of these particular animals. When making them, special attention was paid to the size of the Maine Coon, the thickness and length of its coat. Such food is produced by . The owner can choose this food for his pet, taking into account his age and health status.

    presents a line of food specially designed for Maine Coons

    Dry food from Bosch Sanabelle is an option for large breed cats, which undoubtedly includes the Maine Coon. This product is made in Germany, but it is not always available on Russian shelves. The same can be said about Swedish-made Bozita food. These food options for Maine Coons can only be obtained in large Russian cities.

    All animals are individual, even if they have no differences in breed. Therefore, food that is suitable for one Maine Coon will not always be good for another.

    My friend feeds her pet exclusively homemade food, and he feels great. Of course, she spends a lot of time preparing dishes for her pet. But according to her, before buying a cat, they thought through everything and decided that they would either fulfill their duties as owners well, or abandon the idea of having an animal altogether. The desire to have a purebred baby turned out to be stronger, and I must say that my friend and her husband are doing an excellent job with their roles.

    Natural food

    The cats eat lean beef, turkey, and domestic chicken. In addition to meat, the animal needs fresh vegetables, vitamin supplements, and sometimes fermented milk products (for example, homemade cottage cheese). You need to prepare food for your pet every 3-4 days as follows:

    1. Freeze the meat for five days, then cut it into strips.
    2. Coarsely grate the vegetables and simmer for 5–10 minutes.
    3. Mix the meat with vegetables, pack in portions and freeze.
    4. Before serving the animal, thaw the food and warm it to room temperature.
    5. Season the food with cottage cheese and vegetable oil.

    You can add an egg yolk to any homemade dish prepared for your Maine Coon.

    Beef is lean meat, so it is allowed to feed Maine Coons. Turkey can be included in the diet of Maine Coons.

    Chicken for preparing Maine Coon food should be homemade

    Vegetables should be offered to the Maine Coon in stewed form.

    Homemade Maine Coon food can be seasoned with cottage cheese

    You can add egg yolk to your Maine Coon's diet.

    Diet

    If a kitten appeared in your home at the age of 4 months, then until 6–7 months you need to feed the animal 4–5 times a day. From seven months, the kitten is switched to an adult diet, so it can eat 3 times a day. From 10 months the animal can eat 2 times a day. The amount of food depends on the kitten's appetite and weight. At this age, Maine Coons are active, so you should not worry about their obesity. The daily diet of a Maine Coon should include meat and meat products at the rate of 110–150 g per 1 kg of animal weight.

    Necessary living conditions

    The litter box door should be kept open, or a door designed for medium dogs should be cut into it. In terms of dimensions, the tray should be from 40x80 cm, the height of its side should be about 10 cm. You need to choose a tray with edges curved inward, since Maine Coons like to scatter everything from the tray, and the owner is unlikely to like this. Maine Coons are clean cats; they will not tolerate an untidy litter box.

    Maine Coons willingly choose a toilet instead of a tray

    It is better to immediately abandon the purchase of small bowls and saucers that are planned to be used as dishes. The ideal water bowl is 30 cm in diameter and 10 cm deep. It is recommended to fill it halfway with water. Your pet's fluid should be changed 2 times a day. There are self-drinking fountains on sale that are designed for sloth cats.

    Your pet's food bowl should be at least 15 cm in diameter and 6 cm deep. For dry food, an automatic feeder or plates on a stand are used, designed for medium-sized dogs.

    Watching my friend’s Maine Coon, I can conclude that the animal definitely needs a quiet and peaceful place to retire. Once a friend bought a slide for her pet with a soft surface, in which there was a small house. He never entered it, because this shelter was located in the very center of the room. But on the hill he rested with pleasure, dangling one paw, like a real predator.

    Hygiene and grooming

    The pet must be healthy and happy. To do this, you need to properly care for it.

    Hair care products

    To keep the animal’s thick fur smooth and silky, the owner must acquire the following tools:

    • a comb with sparse and long teeth;
    • a comb with frequent and short teeth;
    • slicker;
    • a brush with natural bristles;
    • massage mitten;
    • spray for cat hair.

    You need to accustom your pussy to the procedure from the moment it appears in your family. A massage mitt or brush is used to treat a kitten’s fur, while combs and a slicker are suitable for an adult animal.

    My friend, who has a Maine Coon, spends a long time brushing her pet, and this, I must say, gives him extraordinary pleasure. The cat's fur constantly gets tangled, gathering into lumps. According to a friend, if you don’t comb the animal for a long time, then these hairballs will be impossible to eliminate at home and you will have to go to the veterinarian. But the pet does not like to do this, and perhaps even experiences stress from such a change of environment.

    Photo gallery: means to care for Maine Coon fur

    After untangling Maine Coon tangles with your hands, use a comb, first with long and sparse teeth, then with short and frequent teeth. After removing lumps from Maine Coon fur, a slicker is used. A brush with natural bristles is more often used for Maine Coon kittens. A massage mitt is more often used for processing fur. kitten The spray is applied to the tangles on the body of the Maine Coon

    Ear cleaning

    Your cat's ears should be examined twice a week. Normally they are pink and clear. If wax has accumulated in the ears, which is light yellow in color, then treat the animal’s ear as follows:

    1. Place the cat sideways on your lap and hold it close to you.
    2. Open the cat's ear.
    3. Soak a cotton swab in chlorhexidine or a special lotion for cleaning cats' ears.
    4. Gently wipe the inside of the ear without going inside.

    Maine Coon ears should be treated if wax accumulates in them.

    Nail trimming

    The owner of a Maine Coon must control the length of his pet’s nails, which is easy to do if they are transparent and without pigment. When exposed to light, blood vessels are visible in each of them, reaching to the tips at a normal length of the claws. If it is noticeable that the claws have grown, then they can be carefully trimmed without touching the blood vessels. To trim an animal's claws, it is recommended to use special cat scissors. The haircut procedure should be carried out as follows:

    1. With your index finger, grab the paw pad located below the claw, and with your thumb, grab the skin above the claw, then squeeze your fingers slightly.
    2. Make a careful cut across the claw.
    3. Polish the sharp edge of the claw using a nail file or a piece of sandpaper.

    Maine Coon nails should be trimmed carefully, without touching the blood vessels.

    Eye cleaning

    Maine Coons have expressive large eyes, in the corners of which dirt often accumulates and crusts form. Removing it with your finger or nail is strictly prohibited. To remove dirt, it is recommended to use a cotton swab previously soaked in tea leaves.

    Oral care

    Unlike other cat breeds, Maine Coons are less susceptible to plaque formation in the mouth. However, this does not mean that the condition of the animals’ mouths and teeth does not need to be monitored. You need to brush your Maine Coon's teeth using a specialized brush and toothpaste for animals.

    Maine Coons' teeth need to be brushed using specialized toothpaste and brush.

    Bathing

    The use of chemical hygiene products for these animals is strictly contraindicated.

    Choosing a kitten, care, education

    When choosing a raccoon kitten, the main thing is to take your time. To prevent the animal from causing disappointment in the future, it is first worth visiting several exhibitions and studying the peculiarities of raising and caring for the breed.

    Choice

    There are 2 types of giant cats: European (extreme) and American (classic) coons. “Europeans” are big-boned, large, squat animals.

    A characteristic feature of the “Americans” is large ears with long tufts.

    Upbringing

    It is worth teaching a Maine Coon to order from the moment he gets into the house. Giant cats are easy to socialize. They are not prone to stubbornness, do not have a grudge, and they do not have hysterical attacks.

    A characteristic feature of “Americans” is large ears with long tufts.

    It is easy to negotiate with a Maine Coon using the rules of prohibition and rewards. There is no point in physically influencing kittens. The only thing that can be used as punishment is a spray bottle of warm water.

    With its help, you can easily stop a naughty pet from scratching furniture or climbing onto a cabinet or kitchen table.

    Toilet training

    When a small pet appears in the house, it is important to monitor its behavior. If the kitten is looking for a secluded place, shows restlessness and constantly meows, it means that he wants to go to the toilet.

    At this point, the pet must be placed in the prepared tray for a few minutes. In order for the animal to adapt faster, this procedure is repeated several times during the day.

    At first, you should not allow the kitten to walk around the entire apartment. Its space is limited to the room where the tray is installed and another room.

    If the kitten nevertheless “organized” the toilet in an unauthorized place, the puddle is blotted with a napkin, which is placed in a tray. The familiar smell will help the kitten to accurately find the toilet the next time.

    What to feed a Maine Coon kitten: recommendations, diet from a month to a year, what not to give

    Features of mating Maine Coons

    A Maine Coon must be one year old to breed. If you start mating earlier, you can cause serious harm to the health of the animal or get weak offspring. From about a year old, the animal is considered quite mature, and its mating instincts begin to kick in. Breeding Maine Coons with other cat breeds is prohibited.

    If the cat calmly lets the cat near, then mating has occurred

    When can an animal be spayed or neutered?

    An animal can be spayed or sterilized at 9–12 months. Sometimes the body of a Maine Coon is already formed in six months, and the doctor may prescribe castration or sterilization during this period.

    Breeding Maine Coons as a business

    Some owners purchase animals in order to breed them and make a profit from it. In this case, you need to buy a Maine Coon girl and take full care of her. You need to join a cat club with an animal, because otherwise his “babies” will be left without documents, which means they won’t be able to sell them profitably. In this case, you need to pay membership and entrance fees for the year in advance. To obtain the necessary papers, the cat must take part in an international cat show at least once, having first paid the required amount. It is recommended not to just go to one event and limit yourself to receiving a divorce assessment, but to present the cat several times and close the title.

    You need to pay a decent amount for mating, and in the end you will get an ordinary purebred cat, since all high-quality “future fathers” are closed for mating on the side. The owners of some Maine Coons agree on mating with the provision of all tests for the pet. There are others who do not require any documents, but do not provide them themselves.

    It is possible that the litter will be too large, and it will be difficult for the Maine Coon mother to feed all the kittens

    It happens that a pregnant cat gets sick or does not become pregnant at all. In this case, it is necessary to conclude an agreement, which will indicate the re-breeding of animals in case of nuances. When kittens are born, the following situations cannot be excluded, many of which can be foreseen and measures taken:

    • during childbirth, only 1–2 kittens are born;
    • kittens die in the first 3–5 days due to incompatibility with the parental blood type;
    • an overly large litter is born, and the cat does not have the opportunity to feed all the babies. In this case, it is better to invite a veterinarian, since most of the litter may die;
    • after giving birth, the cat developed an infection and the animal had to undergo surgery;
    • the cat died during or after childbirth.

    How to choose the right Maine Coon and where to buy it

    At three months of age, Maine Coon kittens grow tufts on their ears, which means that a purebred kitten can be recognized by them. At this age, kittens are slightly larger than other cats, their weight is 2–2.5 kg, while that of ordinary cats is 1–1.5 kg. Maine Coons, Siberians and Norwegian Forest cats are similar in appearance - they all represent the image of a wild forest cat. The “cubs” of the Norwegian forest cat have ears that are not so pronounced, but harmonious and set high - in them the lower part of the outer line of the ear seems to continue the line of the head.

    A Maine Coon kitten can be identified by its wide-set oval eyes, while Norwegian Forest cats have larger, more open eyes. Maine Coons have a moderate undercoat, a thick, silky coat, and a thin and elastic outer coat.

    At three months of age, coon pups can already be distinguished by the characteristic tufts on their ears.

    On average, the cost of a Maine Coon kitten ranges from 20 to 100 thousand rubles. The more interesting the color of an animal’s fur, the more expensive its cost.

    In terms of buying a Maine Coon, my friend was lucky: she was offered to buy an animal by a colleague whom she has known for many years. Moreover, this same colleague gave a good discount. My friend never thought about getting an animal. That's probably why she refused at first. And then, having told her husband about the proposal over dinner, she decided to buy a pet: it turns out that buying a cat had been a long-time dream of her husband. In addition, they really liked the breed in appearance. After reading information about the character of the animal, the couple decided to purchase it, which they do not regret at all.

    Tips for choosing a kitten

    First of all, you should find out as much information as possible about nurseries and breed standards. This is especially important for those who are going to buy a show-class kitten and participate in exhibitions with it. All information can be found on TICA, WCF, CFA felinological systems.

    Of course, it is important to decide on the gender and class of the animal you are purchasing, and also decide which branch you will choose. There are two of them: American and European. The first is distinguished by thick hair, wide and obliquely set eyes and larger sizes than the second. Europeans are relatively miniature, their fur is not so thick and long, but at the same time the “lynx tassels” are more pronounced.

    After 12-15 weeks, you can purchase a kitten and take it to your home. If you purchase an animal from a good nursery, they will definitely tell you about each kitten and litter. The animal will be vaccinated according to age, branded, and all pets from the litter will be toilet trained and scratching posts.

    If you see that the kitten is inactive, lies down all the time, and looks lethargic, then this is a clear sign of an unhealthy animal.

    Ask the breeder to introduce you to one of his parents. By the behavior of the mother or father, you can easily determine the temperament of the future pet. Also, an experienced breeder will definitely give you food and filler for the first time, which the kitten has been accustomed to since birth. It is possible that your favorite toy will go with you, which will help the animal adapt more easily to new conditions. It is recommended to purchase Maine Coon kittens from nurseries so that you do not later discover any defects in your pet or raise a completely different breed instead of a Maine cat.

    Reviews: Maine Coon owners about the characteristics of the breed

    The breeders warned that with the onset of puberty, a problem with the tail will appear: very oily skin that needs to be degreased and washed frequently. This was confirmed, his puberty began very quickly (probably due to the proximity to our beauty Musya), so we didn’t have time to look back, but there was a small bald patch on his tail, and a greasy crust on his skin. The problem was solved, as a result, now the tail is a sight for sore eyes! But now the fur on the belly is very oily, hairballs form, we suffer: we comb it out, wash it, and sometimes one is unreal and we have to cut it off.

    Fedya is a very talkative girl. She constantly purrs and meows. Always when my husband comes home from work, he runs to meet him and meows until he takes her in his arms and starts stroking her. This is not just a cat, but a cat-horse, no special accuracy in movements, like a small tank demolishes everything in its path. She especially loves to jump onto the window and God forbid she leaves a flower pot there on her way, it will immediately be on the floor. The cat is very curious and stubborn. If she’s interested in something, even if there’s a stake on her head, you can’t drag her away from an activity that interests her.

    I have a Maine Coon. Age 2 years. It's very difficult to describe what he is like. I would say COMFORTABLE: touching, tenderness, devotion, kindness, intelligence, and at the same time unobtrusiveness. He is ALWAYS near his owner. But at the same time, he will never climb onto the keyboard, will not wedge himself between his face and the book, will simply lie next to him, will be happy when you pet him
