Milbemax for cats: instructions for use

Today Purevax for cats is produced in France. Its production is organized by the Merial company, which is one of the leaders in the production of veterinary products.

Purevax drug

The ampoule contains a lyophilized powder, which must be diluted with a solution for injection for oral administration. After mixing, the two components must be thoroughly mixed.

For use, please note that there are four types of vaccine:

  • RCP Rabies – various strains of herpes viruses;
  • RCP – strains of gentamicin in a weakened state, due to which they are most often used for pets that do not go outside due to the weaker effect of the vaccine;
  • FeLV - the powder contains fibroblasts from chicken embryos that have been infected with canarypox virus, which results in activation of specific proteins responsible for activating the immune system and preventing leukemia;
  • RCPCh – the vaccine powder contains dried cells from cat kidneys, which were previously infected with both calicevirus, panleukopenia, and herpes.

Each of them has a different composition, as can be seen in the description. In this connection, the use of each vaccine subtype will be necessary in certain cases.

Reviews about vaccination

I have been vaccinating cats with Purevax since it appeared in Russia. The shelter where I work is vaccinated with the same drug. I love this vaccine dearly because of the absence of complications, which I have never observed.

There were no complaints about the tolerability of the Purevax vaccination itself, everything went completely unnoticed, I vaccinated at 8 weeks and revaccinated at 12. This vaccine is my choice.

Biological properties

Polivak-TM for cats: instructions for use

The main mechanism of action is that the animal is injected with a weakened virus of a particular disease. As a result, the cat becomes infected with weakened strains - this does not lead to illness, but develops immunity in the animal’s body. In the future, the resulting antibodies will be able to quite effectively repel the attack of pathogenic agents penetrating the animal.

Over a period of 15 to 20 days, all biological components are completely utilized by the body, and the animal’s body is able to resist infection for a year.

Pros and cons of the drug

Purevax is safe for kittens and older animals whose immune systems are immature or already weakened.

After using this drug, the animal is protected from many diseases for a long time.
Veterinarians consider the following to be the positive aspects of Purevax:

  • Maintains animal health for a long time.
  • Stimulates the immune system to suppress dangerous microorganisms.
  • It has advantages over analogues because it strengthens the immune system better.

The negative aspects of Purevax R are that the weakened viruses contained in the substance can trigger the development of the disease. However, veterinarians argue that this is only possible if the animal’s immunity is weak, if the owner hid the animal’s condition from the doctor or did not pay attention to it. Also, the components of Purevax can mutate and infect the animal.

Doses and method of administration

Purevax vaccine for cats must be used strictly in accordance with the recommendations given in the description of the drug. If the dose is violated, the animal may experience side effects such as:

  • the occurrence of vomiting;
  • general lethargy;
  • violation of acts of defecation.

Ringworm in cats: treatment, vaccine, folk remedies

Important! To avoid this, it is important to follow the recommendations specified in the instructions and first prepare the animal for vaccination.

The peculiarity of the preparation is that the animal needs to undergo a deworming session, regardless of the presence or absence of parasites.

Deworming process

Note! This is done in approximately 10 days. And they use the medications that the veterinarian prescribes.

This procedure should never be skipped, as parasites can weaken the animal’s immunity, and it will be much less able to tolerate this procedure.

Additional Information! When using Purevax as a vaccine for cats, in addition to following the instructions, you must also make sure that the animal is completely healthy. Otherwise, the effect of the drug may be very poorly tolerated by the animal’s body.

Using this vaccination is very convenient for any animal. This is due to the fact that 1 ampoule is used 1 time, regardless of weight and size. Before use, the powder is diluted with water for injection and whisked very thoroughly until completely dissolved. The consistency should be uniform. The resulting solution is drawn into a syringe and carefully injected under the skin into the area between the two shoulder blades.

The manipulation is repeated 2 times with a break of approximately 25-30 days.

Purevax, instructions for use for cats: interactions with other drugs

The peculiarity of the drug is that it can be combined with itself. That is, if necessary, you can combine different subtypes of the vaccine at the same time.

As for combination with other types of vaccines, this is highly not recommended, especially if it concerns the same strains of the virus.

Note! Purevax can be combined with the Rabizin vaccine. Moreover, do this simultaneously with separate management. If there is a need to use other drugs, then you must wait at least 15 days between them.

special instructions

If a vaccine bottle does not have a label, is not sealed or sealed, has changed color or consistency, has been frozen, contains foreign matter, or has not been used within twenty minutes of dilution, it is not can be used for its intended purpose, it must be disinfected by boiling for five to ten minutes and disposed of. The simultaneous use of Purevax and Rabizin vaccines is permissible if they are administered separately. Other drugs can be used with a break of at least two weeks before or after using Purevax.

Terms and conditions of storage

The shelf life is stated on the medicine packaging. It must be checked when purchasing a vaccine. As for storage conditions, like other lyophilized powders, you need to keep them in the refrigerator without access to direct sunlight, closed, and in no case diluted, but dry.

After water for injection has been added to the powder, the product must be applied within 20 minutes.

Important! If the integrity of the packaging is detected and there is no sell-by date, then such ampoules are disposed of without possible use.

Advantages and disadvantages of Purevax for cats

The vaccine is quite safe, effective and well tolerated by animals - this is its main advantage.

If we talk about the disadvantages, then there may be a slight reaction from the animal’s body in the coming days after the administration of the drug. These side effects include:

  • increased level of drowsiness;
  • decreased appetite and nausea;
  • in some cases, the cat may vomit;
  • local reactions in the form of compaction at the injection site;
  • itching

Nausea in a cat

Possible side effects and contraindications

In addition to pregnancy, feeding kittens and under 8 months of age, Purevax is prohibited for animals with any acute or chronic diseases. You should not vaccinate weakened animals with underweight. If the cat has recently been ill, then you need to wait two weeks and only then get vaccinated.

Despite the good tolerability of the drug, in some cases Purevax can cause side effects:

  • lethargy;
  • nausea;

    Nausea is one of the side effects of the vaccine

  • vomiting;
  • diarrhea.

After 3-4 days, these symptoms should subside. There may be a slight increase in temperature on the first day. If the “side effects” last longer than the specified period and steadily increase, you should immediately take the cat to the veterinarian. These are either signs of an allergic reaction to the drug, or the vaccination was given to a sick animal and its immune system cannot cope with the load.

Analogs, price of Purevax vaccine

This vaccine should be purchased only in specialized stores. Only in this case can you be sure of the authenticity and correct storage.

If it is not possible to purchase Purevax, then it can be replaced with the following live vaccines:

  • Quadricate;
  • Nobivac triket;
  • Phelocel CRV.

Although today there are no absolute analogues to this type of vaccine.

The price of the vaccine can fluctuate between 500 – 650 rubles.*

Expert opinion

Analyzing Purevax, we can say that the lyophilisate can help with a fairly wide range of diseases in animals. In addition, it is quite harmless and does not have an intense effect on the cat’s internal organs. In this regard, it can be safely used on almost all categories of animals, with the exception of the above contraindications.

Thus, Purevax has no therapeutic effect, but the vaccine puts the immune system in a state of “combat readiness,” which can then cope with a variety of infections. If you use it on healthy representatives of the cat breed, the result will be most effective. In this case, the administration of the drug will be calmly tolerated.

* Prices are current as of August 2020.
