Polyvercan for cats instructions for use: sugar cubes for worms

An anthelmintic drug for cats must meet the following criteria: be highly effective and low-toxic, have a pleasant taste so as not to cause difficulties when administered to the animal, and be in an affordable price category. Polyvercan for cats, a combined anthelmintic drug with a wide spectrum of action, meets all these parameters. It is a small cube of light yellow color, weighing eight grams. Widely used as an anthelmintic for uncinariasis, toxocariasis, toxascariasis, diphyllobothriasis.

Instructions for use

The drug is available in the form of briquettes; they can be used for treatment in different ways. Below we will describe in detail several methods of administration.

1 way

  • Grind a certain dose of briquette into powder.
  • Add the resulting powder to the food; canned cat food, pate or minced meat are excellent for this purpose.

You should take a small portion of food, in which case the pet will eat the dosed amount of medicine in one approach to the bowl.

Method 2

It is quite possible to give the briquette to the cat as a tablet, that is, place it on the base of the tongue, and the cat will swallow the medicine on its own. But first you should crumble the briquette into small pieces.

3 way

To simplify the adoption procedure, you can simply dissolve the briquette powder in water. Then the prepared suspension is drawn into a syringe without a needle. It is enough to inject it into the cat’s mouth, and you need to aim at the palate, in which case the drug will definitely get into the esophagus.

Contraindications and precautions

During research activities testing the drug, no side effects were recorded. An allergy to one of the components of the product is possible, which manifests itself in the form of diarrhea or vomiting. In this case, you need to contact your veterinarian to select another anthelmintic drug. When performing treatment procedures, it is recommended to observe safety measures. •Cat owners prone to allergies should avoid contact with the drug. For this, rubber gloves and a medical mask are used. •Before giving a dose of a briquette, it is important to evaluate the tightness of its packaging. If any violations are found, use should be discontinued. •If the medicine gets on the mucous membrane or skin, the affected area is washed with clean water. •The blister and packaging are disposed of after removing the cubes. It is prohibited to keep them with household waste or further use them for household needs.

  • Cestodosis.
  • Ankylostamatosis.
  • Diphylbothriasis.

How does it work when it enters the body?

Polyvercan belongs to the group of complex antiparasitic drugs; its principle of action is determined by 2 active components:

  • Oxibendazole. This component works well in the fight against roundworms. Oxibendazole works as follows: it disrupts the supply of glucose in the body of worms, and therefore many vital processes fail. Because of this, the parasites soon die.
  • Niclosamide has proven effective against tapeworms and cestodes. This substance is quickly absorbed into the intestinal walls and enters the blood. When niclosamide enters the body of parasites, it quickly disrupts the functioning of the central nervous system, and nerve impulses stop passing. This is why the worms experience paralysis, and this is why they quickly exit your pet along with the feces.

If you use the anthelmintic drug Polyvercan on the recommendation of a doctor, then no harm will be done to the cat’s health. All components are perfectly metabolized in the liver and then excreted in urine and feces. The complete process of removing the medication from the pet’s body is eliminated within 72 hours.

Reviews after use:

Timur: I purchased Polyvercan to deworm my cat and dog. The dog Casper quickly ate a cube of the drug, but with the cat it turned out to be more and more difficult. I ground the briquette into powder, then mixed it with milk and poured it into the mouth with a syringe. At first, Masha spat everything back out, but on the 3rd day she swallowed the dissolved drug without much indignation. There have never been any side effects, the product is not that expensive, I really like the effectiveness and price. I recommend!

Alevtina: My cat always runs outside, and I know that he always has the opportunity to pick up parasites. Once every 4 months I give him Polyvercan. The product removes parasites already on day 2. Sometimes there is a side effect in the form of increased salivation, but this quickly passes.

Reviews

Sergey, cat owner : We spend the whole summer at the dacha and, of course, take our cat with us. After walks, we always give deworming medication as a preventive measure. Last time we decided to give Polyvercan. Excellent tool! I ground it into powder, mixed it with water and offered it to the cat.

He drank the sweet water with pleasure. He did not experience any side effects. Everything went great.

Veronica, veterinarian : I prescribe Polyvercan to prevent the disease. For treatment I usually use other drugs. In each case, the animal is treated individually. What suits one cat may not suit another. Only a competent doctor can prescribe the correct treatment and prescribe the necessary drug.

Possible side effects

As we have already indicated above, the drug is quite “serious”, and therefore side effects from its improper use and/or accidental overdose are not excluded:

  • Typically, responses from the digestive system are observed: uncontrollable vomiting and profuse diarrhea, and sometimes cases of prolonged constipation.
  • The cat's appetite deteriorates greatly or completely disappears, the animal becomes apathetic and tries to lie down in a remote corner.
  • A sign of an overdose in many situations is a sharp increase in salivation. The pet's saliva becomes thick, foamy, and flaky. Often its appearance is accompanied by painful, severe vomiting.
  • Neurological disorders are possible (strange behavior, lethargic state), but this happens rarely and only with an extremely serious overdose.

Note that in the case of adequate use of the medicine, all of the above is extremely unlikely; cases are rare.

Owner reviews

Anna, owner of the Japanese Bobtail:

“I used Polyvercan to prevent worms for my pets – a 4-year-old cat and a 7-year-old dachshund. If the dog ate sugar cubes directly from his palm, then with the cat everything turned out to be more complicated. I had to pour medicine dissolved in water into it. He resisted, so I and the whole room were sticky. There were no side effects, but in the future I will buy tablets for the cat, as before.”

Antonina, owner of 2 cats:

“We have two cats. In the summer they spend most of their time outside, since our whole family moves to the dacha. In this regard, we constantly carry out deworming. Previously, we bought suspensions. We tried options from different manufacturers, but the result was always the same - profuse salivation. Giving the pills turned out to be even more difficult. On the advice of the veterinarian, we bought Polyvercan. They gave it diluted. The cats did not resist sweet water. There was no saliva, just like there were no worms. Good drug. Would recommend to other pet owners."

Advantages and disadvantages

The drug has many advantages:

  • It has a wide spectrum of action, destroys tapeworms and roundworms of various types.
  • It is highly efficient.
  • Easy to use, can be mixed with food or diluted in water.
  • Has a minimal list of contraindications.
  • No special storage conditions are required. From the date of production it can be stored for 4 years.
  • Suitable for medicinal purposes and prevention.
  • Can be used for cats of different breeds.

Dosage of the drug

The dosage of the drug will not create any problems for the owner:

  • If the pet weighs up to 500 grams. inclusive, he is given ¼ of the briquette.
  • With a weight up to 5 kg inclusive, ½ part is consumed per animal.
  • If the cat weighs more than five kilograms, you cannot dosing it yourself. In such cases, the dose should be calculated by an experienced veterinarian, taking into account the weight of the animal, its physiological condition, health and other factors. If you simply give the “giant” a whole briquette, the pet can be poisoned.

Side effects

If the recommended doses are observed, the antiparasitic drug is well tolerated by cats of different breeds and ages (from 1 month). If you are hypersensitive to the components, vomiting, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal disturbances may occur. In the future, Polyvercan is not used; if necessary, drugs are prescribed for symptomatic treatment. In case of severe infection with worms, intoxication of the animal's body can occur. In this case, you should consult a doctor who will select medications depending on the symptoms and general condition of the pet.

In case of overdose, the following side effects may occur:
