Sinulox for cats: instructions for use, side effects

Composition of the drug and release form

The medicine is available in the form of a suspension for injection solution and in tablet form. Active components of the drug: amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

Additional substances in the composition: magnesium stearate, anhydrous silicon, dry yeast, cellulose.

Tablets are available in dosages of 50, 250 and 500 mg. Ampoules with suspension - 40 and 100 ml.

How does Sinulox work?

The principle of action of an antibiotic is to inhibit the activity of bacteria. This happens thanks to amoxicillin. And clavulanic acid helps bacteria become sensitive to the bactericidal effect of amoxicillin. This scheme of action “works” against most bacteria:

  • staphylococcus spp (including strains producing (beta-lactamase);
  • corynebacteria spp;
  • streptococcus spp;
  • clostridia spp;
  • peptostreptococcus spp;
  • esherichia coli (including strains producing beta-lactamase);
  • salmonella spp (including beta-lactamase producing strains);
  • pasteurella spp;
  • klebsiella spp;
  • proteus spp;
  • fusobacterium necrophorum;
  • campylobacter spp.

The active substances of the antibiotic are well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood. This is how they enter most tissues and organs. The administered concentration is maintained for 12 hours and is almost not metabolized. The drug is excreted from the body through urine (mainly) and bile.

What dose is suitable for cats

The dosage is selected individually for cats, based on the weight and severity of the clinical case. The recommended amount of the tablet form of the drug is 12.5 mg per 1 kg of body weight. For example, if a cat weighs 4 kg, she needs 50 mg of antibiotic.

If a suspension is administered, its volume is calculated differently: 8.75 mg of the drug is required per 1 kg of animal weight. It is recommended to give injections using an insulin syringe.

In order not to harm the cat, it is important to carefully follow the indicated dosage. To achieve a positive therapeutic result, it is necessary to complete the full treatment course.

If you stop taking the medicine prematurely, a relapse of the disease is possible. The average duration of therapy is 7 days.

When is it recommended to give

Sinulox tablets are recommended for the treatment of:

  • bacterial lesions of the skin, abscesses, deep and superficial pyoderma;
  • infections of the genitourinary system;
  • pathologies of the respiratory tract;
  • intestinal diseases.

Antibiotic injections are prescribed for:

  • infectious diseases of the upper and lower respiratory systems;
  • mastitis;
  • infections of the skin and mucous membranes;
  • endometritis;
  • infectious complications that occur in cats after difficult births.

The presence of amoxicillin in the composition of the drug makes it possible to use the drug in the treatment of inflammatory processes in the bile ducts, when infection gets into wounds. The use of Sinulox is also effective for dental diseases.

As a prophylactic agent, it is used after surgical interventions to prevent infection.

What are the indications?

Therapy with the drug is carried out in case of soft tissue disease, for example, such as stomatitis.
It is necessary to inject a kitten with an antibiotic or take it orally only as prescribed by a veterinarian. There are cases in which treatment with Sinulox is indicated:

  • dermatological diseases caused by bacteria;
  • symptoms of stomatitis, gingivitis and other soft tissue diseases;
  • disorders of the respiratory system;
  • inflammatory reactions in the urinary tract;
  • respiratory infections;
  • umbilical diseases in a kitten associated with the introduction of pathogenic microorganisms;
  • arthritis of various types;
  • the period after surgery - for preventive purposes.

Instructions for use

Sinulox tablets are given to the animal 2 times a day, every 12 hours. Dosages are selected based on the cat’s weight:

  • up to 2 kg - 50 mg;
  • from 3 to 5 kg - 100 mg;
  • over 6 kg - 100 mg.

The course lasts from 5 to 7 days. In the case of a chronic course of the disease or in the absence of a positive result from the use of an antibiotic for 3-4 days, the duration of therapy is extended according to the decision of the veterinarian. The maximum duration of treatment is 28 days.

Cats do not take the drug in tablet form well. You can help the animal swallow the medicine by forcefully introducing it into the throat and holding the mouth closed. You can crush the drug together with dry food granules, stir in broth or fermented milk products. It is also allowed to crush it into a powder, mix it with water and inject it into the animal’s mouth using a syringe without a needle.

The drug in the form of a solution is recommended to be administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously; intravenous injections are strictly prohibited. The course of therapy is 5 days. Administration must be carried out once a day.

Algorithm of actions when giving an injection:

  1. Bend back the aluminum notches on the bottle cap.
  2. Using a thin needle (it is recommended to use an insulin syringe), pierce the rubber cap and turn the container upside down.
  3. Before injecting the product, you need to make sure that there is no air in the syringe. To do this, press the plunger and wait until a drop of medicine appears at the tip of the needle.
  4. Inject the antibiotic into the withers (the place between the shoulder blades and the back of the head).
  5. Grasp the skin with 2 fingers of one hand. Insert the needle into the skin at an angle, insertion depth is up to 1.5 cm.
  6. Introduce the solution slowly, without making sudden, jerky movements. Otherwise, an infiltrate will appear on the skin.
  7. You can massage the injection site a little.

If an injection is missed, the schedule should be resumed as soon as possible, but do not double the subsequent dosage.

Sinulox is given to animals up to 12 months in the amount of 25 mg. Very young kittens who have been diagnosed with an umbilical infection cannot be given tablets, because they are not able to swallow them even if they are very crushed: only an injection solution is allowed.

Sinulox is not used as the only drug in the treatment of bacterial diseases. For a quick recovery of the pet, the antibiotic is combined with drugs for symptomatic therapy, immunomodulators and probiotics.

Storage conditions

Tablets and suspension are stored at a positive temperature of no more than 25 ° C in a dry, dark place away from food and children. It is recommended to place bottles with the suspension on the refrigerator door.

Shelf life: 2 years from the date of issue. It is believed that after the expiration date indicated on the package, antibiotic tablets can be used if stored correctly. If you have expired medications, consult your doctor before use. It is strictly not recommended to use injection bottles with an expired expiration date.

What are the contraindications?

Sinulox should not be given in the following cases:

  • individual intolerance to active or auxiliary components;
  • infectious diseases caused by pseudomonas;
  • period of chemotherapy.

It is forbidden to give the drug to an animal yourself without a prescription from a veterinarian. The medication is approved for use during pregnancy in cats. It does not have a negative effect on the intrauterine development of the fetus.

Can there be side effects?

Sinulox is a mild drug that, when used correctly and without contraindications, does not cause negative reactions.

But if you take the drug incorrectly, there is a possibility of the following adverse reactions:

  1. Digestive system: attacks of nausea and vomiting, prolonged diarrhea. These symptoms may occur if the cat takes the drug on an empty stomach.
  2. Central nervous system: drowsiness and lethargy. These signs occur extremely rarely, mainly with an overdose of the drug.
  3. The formation of ulcerative formations on the mucous membranes, excessive salivation are symptoms indicating the use of an antibiotic in increased dosages.

The likelihood of side effects increases with prolonged use of the antibacterial agent (more than 7 days).

Sinulox can negatively affect beneficial intestinal microflora, provoking the development of pseudomembranous colitis and dysbacteriosis. To prevent the development of such pathological processes, it is recommended to give probiotics to the cat along with the antibiotic.

It is prohibited to give multicomponent vitamins to the animal along with the medicine. This combination can cause intense allergic reactions.

Precautionary measures

Despite the safety and good tolerability of the antibacterial agent, when working with the drug, a person must observe a number of precautions:

  1. Before using the medication and after, you must wash your hands thoroughly and work only with medical gloves.
  2. If the drug, especially in the form of an injection solution, comes into contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes or mouth, they must be immediately rinsed with plenty of running water.
  3. If a person has an individual intolerance to an antibiotic, it is important to avoid direct contact with it.
  4. If there is a high risk of an allergic reaction, you should only work with an antibacterial agent while wearing a medical mask.
  5. If the first signs of an allergy occur, you should immediately seek medical help.
  6. During manipulations with the antibiotic, it is strictly forbidden to smoke, drink or eat anything.

It is important to dispose of used packaging correctly. They must be promptly thrown away with other household waste, without leaving them in the house for a long time.

The following signs indicate the development of allergies when handling antibiotics:

  • formation of edema on the mucous membranes of the lips, eyelids;
  • change in breathing, feeling of lack of air;
  • bouts of dry cough;
  • profuse lacrimation;
  • runny nose;
  • sore and sore throat.

It is important to follow the dosage schedule carefully. Deviations from the regimen and dosage may reduce the therapeutic effect of the drug.

Infiltration on the skin of an animal occurs when the medication is administered incorrectly, too quickly or abruptly. Elderly individuals with loose skin are especially susceptible to its appearance.

The infiltrate appears slowly, reaching its greatest size several weeks after administration of the drug. It most often resolves on its own within 2 weeks to 1 month. But suppuration, which requires separate treatment, cannot be ruled out.

You can avoid complications if you do a little massage after the injections.

It is strictly forbidden to mix the injection solution with other drugs in the same syringe. If the medicine is used to treat infectious diseases in a pregnant cat, proper care must be provided for her and the animal’s diet must be adjusted.

Owner reviews

We were prescribed Sinulox for a cat with erosive and ulcerative rhinitis. The first course of treatment with another drug reduced the symptoms, but did not completely cure them, since the rhinitis was old (the cat lived on the street for an unknown amount of time, abandoned by its previous owners, without treatment). When choosing a drug, it was important that it was tablets, since the cat was already pretty tortured with injections several times a day. The drug is exclusively veterinary and is sold accordingly to veterinary authorities. pharmacies and hospitals. Dispensed without a veterinarian's prescription and can not be stored in the refrigerator. Tablets in flexible soft packaging. The instructions conveniently describe the weight of the animal and dosage. In our case, the option prescribed was 1 tablet of 50 mg 2 times a day for 2 weeks, that is, 2 packages of the drug were taken for the course at once. Convenient and effective. For cat/dog owners. who strongly resist putting the pill in their mouth, it is not difficult to mix it into food. Since the tablet size is small, the animal can easily eat it with a treat or wet food.

I am the owner of three wonderful cats. All were picked up by little ones on the street, and now they are well-fed, huge, fluffy beauties. They do not walk outside, they are purely domestic pets. And even despite this, various troubles happen to them and no one is immune from illness. One of my cats constantly gets inflamed paraanal glands and forms a fistula. So in such cases, Sinulox 50 comes to our aid. The cat sneezed, took a walk on the balcony, and Sinulox helped again. The tablets are coated, so they do not promote drooling in animals. You can mix it into the food without crushing the tablet, or you can put it deeper into the animal’s mouth and it will swallow it without any problems. We have one tablet in the vet. the pharmacy costs 30 rubles, per package 300 rubles. A little expensive, of course, for amoxicillin, but everything is very expensive for our pets.

What analogues exist

Substitute drugs for Sinulox in composition and mechanism of action:

  • Noroclav;
  • Panclave;
  • Flemoklav Solutab;
  • Amoxiclav;
  • Amoxigard.

These drugs are structural analogues of Sinulox, since they contain similar active ingredients: clavulanic acid and amoxicillin.

Flemoklav and Panklav are antibacterial drugs developed for the treatment of humans. In the treatment of infectious diseases in animals, they are prescribed if the positive result from their use is justified by a rapid therapeutic response and outweighs the risks of possible complications.
