Dirofen against worms for cats: instructions for use

Properties, principle of operation

The drug has an effect against the main types of roundworms and tapeworms that parasitize the body of cats.

Deworming tablets Dirofen

The substances included in the tablets lead to the failure of metabolic processes in the body of worms and the destruction of cells. As a result, the helminth dies in a short time.

The additional active components of the tablets paralyze the parasite, which accelerates its death and prevents the laying of eggs. The medicine is active against parasites at all stages of their development.

The drug is classified as moderately dangerous.

When given according to the instructions, it does not lead to negative consequences for the cat’s health. The composition is easily tolerated by animals, regardless of age and breed. The medication does not disrupt the pet’s intestines and does not require taking laxatives or following a diet.

Release form and composition

Dirofen for kittens and cats is available in three forms:

  • tablets;
  • suspensions;
  • pasta.

Every mustachioed breeder needs to buy an anthelmintic for cats.

The suspension and paste are almost identical in composition. The suspension is available in 6 or 7 ml bottles and is light yellow in color. The paste is produced in a dispenser syringe with the same volume as the suspension. It has a thick structure. Both of these dosage forms contain a substance such as pyrantel.

For your information! Febantel promotes the death of parasites in the animal's body. Additional ingredients include lactose, talc, calcium stearate, cellulose and silicon dioxide.

Dirofen for worms for kittens and cats is most often purchased in tablets. They have a light yellow color and are separated by special strips, thanks to which you can divide the product into doses required by the age of the animal. The drug is available in dosages of 120 and 200 mg, respectively, for small kittens and adult animals.

Indications for use

Dirofen is used to prevent helminthic infections in cats and treat them. Helminth infections pose a serious danger to the animal, causing severe infestation, which without urgent treatment can lead to death.

Indications for the use of tablets are as follows:

  • lesions by roundworms;
  • lesions by tapeworms;
  • complex infection with flat and round worms;
  • prevention of helminthiasis.

Important! Kittens should not be given medicine intended for adult cats.

Veterinarians strongly recommend using the composition regularly to prevent the appearance of worms. Parasites are dangerous not only for animals, but also for humans, as they are quickly transmitted from cats to people through constant contact with the animal.

    Dirofen Plus is a complex anthelmintic made in Russia, active against helminths at any stage of their development. Dirofen Plus for dogs of large breeds is packaged in plastic jars. The dosage of active substances of Dirofen Plus for puppies and kittens is 5 times less than for adult animals.

    Mode of action of the drug

    Dirofen Plus is a combination drug whose action is aimed at the most common helminths found in cats and dogs - nematodes and cestodes.

    Nematodes are roundworms, cestodes are tapeworms.

    The combination of active components effectively affects worms, leading to their death:

    • Pyrantel pamoate acts as a nerve impulse blocker, thereby causing paralysis of the helminth. Subsequently, approximately 93% of the dead worms are excreted through bowel movements.
    • Praziquantel actively affects cestodes in the gastrointestinal tract, regardless of the phase of their development. It destroys the muscle tissue of parasites and is almost completely excreted in the urine within a day.
    • Febantel - its action is based on the disruption of the absorption of glucose by the body of the helminth. The process leads to the destruction of the cellular structure of the parasite, and the worm dies.

    The Dirofen tablet, moving through the gastrointestinal tract, begins active activity exclusively in the intestines. There is no significant toxic effect on the pet. According to GOST 12.1.001–76 - 4th hazard class (low hazardous substances).

    Directions for use, dosage for cats

    The anthelmintic should be given in the morning, mixed into the food. You can use both ready-made pet food and natural food. The product into which the medicine will be mixed will not affect its effectiveness.

    Typically, a single use of the product is sufficient. In case of severe damage, to obtain a guaranteed result, treatment against worms is carried out twice with a gap of 10 days.

    The drug tablet is designed for an animal weighing up to 5 kg.

    Dirofen for kittens

    The dose is the same for cats older than one year. Kittens are given a product intended for their age, also in most cases in the amount of one tablet. In Dirofen for kittens, the amount of the active component is reduced by 4 times compared to the adult drug.

    For prevention, the drug is given once a quarter. Additionally, deworming may be required before vaccinations. The procedure is carried out 10 days before the injection.

    It is allowed, if necessary, to use medication for cats during pregnancy. According to veterinary indications, the composition can be given 20 days before the birth of kittens. The dose is read individually by a specialist. In case of urgent need, lactating females are given the composition only 3 weeks after birth.

    Owner reviews

    We regularly provide preventative care to our handsome man, despite the fact that he refuses to voluntarily take the medicine. Making you swallow a pill is even more torture. Even attempts to hide the medicine in my favorite food did not yield results. After this, the cat doesn’t even want to go near the bowl. You have to forcefully inject the suspension with a syringe directly into the oral cavity.

    Elena, Moscow

    I mixed the paste with the food, and the kitten swallowed everything without any problems. However, a week later diarrhea appeared. We took the kitten to the veterinary clinic, and now everything is fine. Next time I want to try a different medicine. You may be able to avoid side effects.

    Irina, Cheboksary

    The doctor prescribed Dirofen for the kitten before vaccination.
    He suggested choosing between a suspension and a tablet. I chose the second option, since I was used to diluting the tablet with water or hiding it in food. After deworming, the very next day worms came out in the feces. It looks like the product is really effective if it worked so quickly. Valery, Apatity
