Novomek for cats: instructions for use, composition, dosage and price

Novomek is widely used to combat internal and external parasites in cats. The first signs of parasite infection are itching, dull fur, lethargy, refusal of food and water, or vice versa, increased appetite and thirst for no particular reason.

If there are serious parasites in the body without treatment, convulsions begin, food stops being absorbed, and the animal may die. Novomek for cats is a universal insectoacaricide that helps get rid of nematodes, cestodes and other helminths in the intestines (worms), fleas, lice, and ticks. Parasites may be suspected if: The cat eats unsystematically, scraps, raw fish, or eats leftover food from the trash. First of all, street animals and those who spend most of their time outside the home, for example, village cats on their own, fall into this category. However, there are cases of infection among pets. There are signs of lice, lice and mites. Many internal parasites are transmitted through insect bites. When bitten, worm eggs enter the bloodstream, find a convenient place to live and begin to actively destroy the body. Any manifestations of systemic diseases are observed: kidney, liver, pulmonary failure, heart disease. The more time a cat spends walking, the higher its likelihood of contracting lice, fleas or worms. Most external parasites, for example, ear mites, are very small in size - up to 0.1 mm, hidden deep in the ears and skin folds, so only traces of their vital activity can be noticed. This is an unpleasant odor from the ears, brown discharge and itching. A cat can scratch its ears until it bleeds. Novomek allows you to rid the body of uninvited guests in the shortest possible time without harming the cat itself.

The active ingredient in Novomek is Ivermectin. Thanks to it, the drug has a systemic contact paralyzing effect on the parasite.

Ivermectin passes unchanged through the cat’s blood, enters the parasite’s body and triggers the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid. The higher its level, the faster the parasite loses the ability to move and dies, as this substance destroys neural connections.

Novomek is used for cats with infestations of: Nematodes (helminthiasis) Pathogens of botfly diseases Larvae of the wohlfarth fly (wolfharthiosis) Scabies mites (sarcoptoidosis, psoroptosis)

Bloodsuckers

The drug is administered intradermally using a special needle-free injector.

It is used only for veterinary purposes and is considered a universal remedy: For the treatment of parasitic infestations For the prevention and destruction of parasites in the early stages of infestation If the cat spends a lot of time walking on its own and has mild signs of illness, Novomek can also be used as a preventative measure according to the instructions for use for cats.

The drug Novomek has a fairly strong effect on cat parasites, so in most cases a single application is sufficient.

About sarcoptic mange in dogs

This disease is caused by the scabies mite of the Sarcoptes family. Parasites make passages under the skin of animals, laying eggs there. Most often, the affected area of the dog is the back, chest, muzzle, and ears.

First, these areas of the body turn red, then the dog begins to itch intensely, because the laying of eggs by mites is accompanied by severe itching. The above areas of the body are covered with small nodules. They quickly turn into bubbles of liquid. Crusts appear on the animal's skin and the fur sticks together. Often, severe scratching causes wounds on the body. Itching in dogs increases in a warm room, and slightly weakens in the cold. Next, the dog loses its hair, and the stage of body baldness begins. The dermis in the affected areas becomes thick and covered with cracks. Sick dogs acquire a specific sour smell. Secondary signs of mange in dogs are aggressiveness, nervousness, and loss of appetite. If left untreated, acute sarcoptic mange becomes chronic. Then the dog’s lymph nodes become enlarged and skin pigmentation increases. Accordingly, the quality of life of the animal noticeably deteriorates.

After an accurate diagnosis has been established, treatment for scabies in dogs must be carried out under quarantine conditions. The disease is contagious, so the dog must be isolated. It is necessary to disinfect the premises in which the pet was located and its belongings (collar, dishes, bedding).

During the therapy period, it is important to feed the animal well, wash it with special keratolytic shampoos, and regularly remove crusts and drying exudate. The pet's fur is restored with preparations that contain sulfur. During the treatment period, the owner is obliged to show maximum patience and give the dog more attention and warmth.

Operating principle

How does Novomek work? Instructions for use for cats and other animals state that the active substance of this drug is the substance ivermectin. This component has a contact and systemic effect on bloodsucker, lice, sarcoptoidosis, causative agents of gadfly diseases, helminthiasis and wolfharthiosis.

After using the drug, it quickly enters the parasite’s body and immediately stimulates the release of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (via nerve endings), and then enhances its binding to nerve cell receptors. As a result of this, the nematodes present in the animal’s body die.

Novomek is a clear, viscous, yellowish liquid containing 1% ivermectin. The drug is packaged in ampoules, vials, bottles with a volume of 1 to 500 ml.

Cost 1; 100 ml in July 2020 - 40; 490 rub.

Ivermectin interrupts impulses transmitted by nerves to the muscles of an arthropod or nematode. As a result of paralysis, the parasite dies. Ivermectin accumulates in muscles and is excreted in urine, feces, and milk.

Release form

Novomek for cats is produced in the form of an injection solution to combat worms and parasites that besiege the animals' bodies from the inside, in the form of a gel and spray to destroy ectoparasites living in the fur and on the skin of our smaller brothers. It destroys nematode helminths. When the substance enters the body of parasites, it stimulates the release of neurotransmitters aminobutyric acid and blocks the progression of nerve impulses.

The drug belongs to list B. It must be stored in a place protected from light and children, at temperatures up to 25 degrees Celsius, for 5 years.

According to the instructions, this drug for dogs is administered in a dosage of 0.1 ml per 1 kg. An injection is given in the withers area. Intradermal administration of the drug is also possible if we are talking about lactating animals.

As for side effects, the drug does not cause them in recommended doses. The instructions prohibit the use of medicine for weakened, emaciated animals. It should not be administered to pregnant bitches 30 days before giving birth.

The drug has proven itself to be an effective remedy against scabies mites that parasitize dogs.

What features are inherent in the drug "Novomek"? The instructions for use indicate that this product exhibits pronounced antiparasitic properties. Its use helps block the transmission of nerve impulses, as a result of which the medication in question causes paralysis and subsequent death of the parasites.

This solution is low-toxic for warm-blooded animals. When used in doses recommended by a veterinarian against pathogens of parasitic diseases, it does not pose any danger to animals.

General information

Novomek is one of the most popular drugs for the treatment of diseases caused by parasites in our smaller brothers. In the article we will consider in detail the advantages of the antiparasitic drug, indications for use, therapeutic features and contraindications, release forms and possible side effects.

Novomek is widely used in veterinary practice as a drug to combat ectoparasites and endoparasites, but most often it is prescribed specifically to cats.

The undoubted advantages of the drug are its versatility (it can be used not only for cats, but also for other domestic animals, including cattle), an almost instantaneous therapeutic effect, and relatively rapid elimination from the body. The drug in forms for external use also has a wound-healing, antiseptic and analgesic effect. The main active substance of the drug is ivermectin, information about it is below.

The injection solution consists of 80% vitamin E and 20% of the active substance ivermectin, which, when the parasite enters the body, promotes the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid, which causes paralysis and subsequent death. However, the active substance is safe for cats if dosage recommendations are followed.

The injection liquid is colorless or has a slight yellowish tint due to vitamin E in the composition and a slight odor. In addition to the active substance, Novomek gel also contains lidocaine and panthenol. Lidocaine is an analgesic and prevents itching, and panthenol promotes rapid healing of wounds and abrasions.

Ivermectin for cats is used as a medicine against ectoparasites and nematodes. In medicine, based on this active component, the broad-spectrum drug Ivermek is used.

The product enhances the formation of butyric acid, which blocks the nerve impulses of parasites, leading to paralysis. Ivermec is a diluted form of ivermectin.

For internal parasites it is used as an injection.

Ivermectin has a pronounced antiparasitic effect against:

  • nematodes of the gastrointestinal tract, lungs;
  • gadflies in the stomach;
  • larvae of nasopharyngeal and subcutaneous mites;
  • bloodsucker, ticks, fleas, lice.

After injection, ivermectin is quickly absorbed by the animal’s tissues and concentrates in the internal organs. The therapeutic effect lasts 14 days. Vitamin E is used as an auxiliary component.

It promotes the rapid distribution of the active substance in the animal’s body, accelerates the regeneration of damaged areas of the skin and mucous membranes of internal organs. Excreted from the body with bile and urine. And also with breast milk.

Therefore, it cannot be used by a female during the feeding period.

Indications for use in cats are:

  • toxocariasis;
  • hookworm;
  • otodectosis;
  • infection by ectoparasites.

Symptoms of helminthic infestation include loss of appetite in cats, constipation or diarrhea, feces mixed with blood, nervousness, restless sleep, and weight loss.

To treat cats, 1 injection is enough. In this case, the dosage is set based on the animal’s body weight and its general condition.

The dosage is calculated in the ratio of 0.1 ml of the drug per 5 kg of body weight. In case of severe infection of cats, the injection is repeated after 14 days.

The interval should be strictly observed to avoid overdose. Otherwise, side effects will increase.

Ivermek - instructions for use for cats allows the use of the drug for the prevention of parasites. In this case, the injection is given once in the spring, and again in late autumn.

Ivermek - instructions for use for cats provide for the treatment of animals under the supervision of a veterinarian. The injection must also be administered by a doctor. As practice shows, this problem is addressed to qualified specialists of the unit.

Most owners prefer to do this themselves. With this decision, you need to accurately determine the dosage of the medicine for your pet, as well as the place where to inject the injection. The injection is given into the withers or knee fold.

When choosing the first method, slightly pull the skin.

Ivermek - instructions for use for cats contains a list of contraindications that should not be ignored. Before starting treatment, it is recommended to show the animal to a veterinarian or independently assess its condition.

You cannot give an injection:

  • in the presence of infectious diseases;
  • females during lactation;
  • pregnant women less than 28 days before birth.

A direct contraindication for use according to the instructions is individual intolerance to the components. This is one of the reasons for side effects.

  • excited state of the nervous system;
  • tremor of the limbs;
  • vomit;
  • lack of appetite;
  • sleep disturbance;
  • frequent urination, defecation.

Mild symptoms appear in almost all cats after administration of the drug. There's nothing wrong with that. In the following days, the intestines are cleared of parasites. However, the occurrence of convulsions and rapid deterioration in the animal’s well-being is a sign of poisoning. The cat should be taken to a veterinarian immediately.

Indications for use

Acaromectin is an antiparasitic medication used for cats that are infested with fleas, ticks, or other external parasites. The drug is intended for external use only. Effectively copes with the destruction of parasitic insects without harm to animals.

general description

Acaromectin is produced in the form of a clear, colorless liquid. There is a slight odor. The medicine is packaged in polymer bottles, which are equipped with sprayers.

Thanks to this, it is very convenient to use the drug; it is easy to apply the medicinal liquid in an even layer to the affected areas.

In the instructions, the manufacturer indicates that bottles can be from 10 to 100 ml, however, 25 mm containers are usually found in pharmacies.

Storage of the medication does not require special temperature conditions. The main thing is that the temperature is in the range from 5 to 25˚С, so the top shelf in the closet or other place inaccessible to children is suitable for storage. It is important that the area is dry and away from direct sunlight. It is strictly forbidden to store the medicine near a source of heat or open fire.

Important! Always pay attention to the expiration date. Do not use the drug if the expiration date has expired. In this case, the medication must be disposed of.

Composition and action

The composition of Acaromectin is based on ivermectin. Its content in 1 ml of solution is 0.1 mg. Also contains isopropyl alcohol and mineral oil. These components perform only an auxiliary function.

Ivermectin is often used in the manufacture of antiparasitic drugs. In Acaromectin, it determines its pharmacological properties. The drug is effective against the following parasites:

  • sarcoptic mites;
  • demodectic mites;
  • fleas;
  • lice;
  • lice eaters;
  • ear mites;
  • other ectoparasites.

The principle of action of ivermectin is that the substance is able to change the magnitude of the current of chlorine ions. Due to this effect, the functioning of the muscular and nervous systems is disrupted.

As a result, paralysis and death occur in a short period of time. The drug affects not only adult parasites, but also their larvae.

In this regard, its use is effective regardless of the stage of development of harmful insects.

Acaromectin is a low-toxic drug. If you follow the instructions, it is safe for cats of all breeds, does not cause irritation on the skin, does not contribute to mutations, but is dangerous for fish and bees.

According to the instructions for use, Acaromectin is prescribed to cats for the treatment of the following pathologies:

  • demodicosis;
  • notoedrosis;
  • sarcoptic mange;
  • otodectosis;
  • entomoses caused by lice, fleas or lice-eaters.

Due to the broad action of ivermectin, the medication can be used to kill any external insects that parasitize cats.

Despite its low toxicity, the drug has a number of contraindications. It cannot be used in the following cases:

  • for infectious pathologies;
  • when exhausted;
  • during the lactation period;
  • during pregnancy;
  • before reaching one month of age.

Note! The drug should not be used for pets who are intolerant to the components, in particular ivermectin. If there have previously been cases of an allergic reaction to this substance, Acaromectin is not used for treatment, but another antiparasitic agent is selected.

Usually the medicine is prescribed only after an accurate diagnosis has been established based on scraping tests. The treatment regimen depends on the type of parasite that caused the pathology.

With otodectosis

When otodectosis occurs, the pet's external auditory canal is first cleaned of dry crusts and dirt using a damp cotton swab. For greater cleaning effectiveness, you should use special lotions.

Then 1-1.5 ml of medicinal liquid is applied to the inner surface of the auricle. For the medicine to be effective, it must be distributed throughout the entire ear.

To do this, carefully fold it in half and then gently massage it.

The treatment is repeated after 8-10 days. If the disease is complicated by otitis, then antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs can additionally be used. If the analysis of scrapings is positive, the double application is repeated.

Novomek is not recommended for cats with:

  • infectious diseases;
  • exhaustion;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the veterinary drug;
  • lactation;
  • pregnancy - less than 30 days before the expected delivery.

If the dosage prescribed by the veterinarian is followed, no adverse reactions are observed after administration of the medicine. But as a result of exceeding the dose, the pet may develop the following adverse reactions;

  • weakness;
  • tremor;
  • increased salivation.

The drug is prohibited for use: Weakened and exhausted cats Pregnant cats The period during which Novomek does not affect the course of pregnancy is more than 30 days before the expected date of birth. Use with caution at the beginning of pregnancy. The dosage must be strictly observed. At the indicated doses it is safe for cats and does not cause side effects.

Exceeding the dose leads to poisoning of the animal, the manifestations of which depend on the size of the overdose. In rare cases, an individual reaction of the body to ivermectin occurs. This is usually manifested by allergic reactions either at the injection site, or by general symptoms: itching or swelling. In this case, antihistamines are additionally prescribed.

Such reactions of the body do not prevent Novomek from successfully fighting parasites during the specified period. If a cat is allergic to Novomek, a repeat course is not prescribed. It is not recommended to use Novomek in combination with other veterinary drugs, since there is no complete information about the interaction with them.

As mentioned above, the remedy in question is very often used to treat parasitic diseases in animals. This drug fights well against lice, bloodsuckers, causative agents of botfly diseases, wolfharthiosis, sarcopticosis and helminthiasis caused by nematodes.

General recommendations for the use and storage of antiparasitic agents

Availability Fast action aimed directly at the parasite Destroys all uninvited guests of the cat's body The method of administration does not injure the animal and does not leave wounds or scars Treatment of cats with Novomek can be carried out as often as necessary. However, if your cat is constantly being attacked by dangerous intruders, it is worth thinking about prevention and additional protection.

Novomek is an over-the-counter antiparasitic drug

This veterinary remedy can be purchased from the shelves of pet stores and veterinary pharmacies in the form of a transparent, colorless or yellowish solution for injection:

  • in bottles of 450 and 500 ml;
  • in glass or polyethylene bottles with a dosage of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 250 ml;
  • in ampoules with a dosage of 1, 2 and 5 ml.

Novomek is freely available to consumers, so no prescription from a veterinarian is required to purchase it. The average cost of 5 ml of this drug is 40 Russian rubles.

1 ml of this product contains 10 mg of the active ingredient - ivermectin, which has a detrimental effect on many parasites:

  • lice eaters;
  • lice and fleas;
  • larvae and sexually mature individuals of subcutaneous, gastric and nasopharyngeal gadflies;
  • bloodsucker;
  • larvae and adults of nematodes (roundworms) that live in the gastrointestinal tract, lungs and eyes;
  • scabies mites;
  • Wohlfarth flies.

Excipients in the composition of the antiparasitic agent:

  • isopropyl alcohol;
  • triethylene glycol.

Ivermectin, entering the body of the parasite, quickly penetrates into its systemic bloodstream and blocks the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and then to its death. The drug is removed from the cat’s body a week after the injection along with urine and bile. As a rule, this time is enough for the cat’s body to completely cleanse itself.

Novomek is a low-toxic veterinary drug and, when used correctly, is absolutely safe for warm-blooded animals. Ivermectin is considered an extremely dangerous substance.

To reduce the risk of adverse reactions, the dosage of the drug should be calculated by a veterinarian, taking into account the weight of the animal and the complexity of the disease.

General recommendations for use and storage of the solution:

  • As a rule, a one-time use of the solution is sufficient to get rid of parasites. In advanced cases, the injection may be repeated after 5–7 days.
  • Injections for cats are administered subcutaneously into the neck area using a needle-free injector.
  • The dose of the drug is calculated based on body weight - 0.1 ml per 1 kg of weight.
  • Shelf life is 5 years from the date of manufacture, subject to the rules of transportation and storage.
  • The drug must be stored in a dark place at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C.
  • After the expiration date, the drug must be disposed of in household waste.

Novomek is administered subcutaneously to cats using a needle-free injector.

For dogs and other animals, the medication in question should only be prescribed by a veterinarian. Its dosage depends on the type of parasitic disease, as well as on the weight of the animal.

According to the instructions, before mass administration of the Novomek drug, each batch is tested on a small group of animals (about 5-10 animals). At the same time, they are constantly monitored for three days.

If complications were not noted, then the medication is administered to the entire infected population.

This drug is administered to small and large cattle, as well as camels, pigs and pets exclusively under the skin behind the shoulder joint or in the forearm area. A syringe with a short needle is used.

During the administration of the medication, all rules of asepsis must be observed.

If the drug in question was prescribed to horses, it is administered intramuscularly. When treating deer, the drug is also used intramuscularly or subcutaneously.

When using the drug Novomek, it should be taken into account that slaughtering livestock for meat is permissible only 30 days after the last administration of the veterinary drug. If the slaughter of animals was inevitable ahead of schedule, then the meat product should be used as animal feed or given for processing into bone meal.
