It is not recommended to offend cats - Mikhalkova Elena Ivanovna

How do cats feel when they are bullied?

Cats are very vulnerable and at the same time very vengeful animals. The slightest inattention, indifference or any action of yours that they consider an insult can seriously upset them, but the cat will not show it. Most likely, in the morning you will simply find a puddle in your shoes, a trashed room, or an eaten indoor flower that you loved so much! At the same time, you should not think that the cat will be satisfied with revenge - she will still be sad and upset and will be wary of your punishment and anger.

Do you want to punish her? This can be done, but only carefully, otherwise you risk causing serious psychological trauma to the animal. With its tricks, the cat only demonstrates resentment, and also tries to explain to you that it expects respect and love from you. And once you show them, the cat will gladly reciprocate your feelings. One more thing: don't think that your cat will feel guilty if you punish her too much. According to some scientists, guilt is the only feeling that cats do not have at all! So don't try to induce it artificially.

Pet's grievances

You can offend or insult a pet unwittingly. Actions and actions that seem simple and ordinary to a person can be very unpleasant and offensive for a cat.

As you know, cats consider themselves the main members of the family. Therefore, noticing any slightest disrespect for his person, the pet may become sad and offended. The sensitive heart of a pet is hurt by the following:

  • inattention and indifference;
  • excessive attention;
  • curses and punishments;
  • physical violence;
  • pulling by the scruff of the neck;
  • parting.

The longer the animal is left alone, the more it will sulk later. Even if your pet has plenty of food and drink, if someone is looking after him and he has plenty of entertainment, he will still be offended. Nothing can replace the company of his beloved owner. Therefore, if possible, you should not leave the animal for a long time. Otherwise, the joy of the meeting will be overshadowed by the antics of a vengeful and touchy animal.

From ignoring to overexposure

From the cat's point of view, the owner must groom and cherish it. But if in fact he does not pay attention to the animal (even for a short time), behaves indifferently and ignoringly, the cat’s world collapses. In such situations, the pet feels abandoned, forgotten and unnecessary. The little “outcast” will decide that his owner has stopped loving him and, becoming sad, will begin to demonstrate in every possible way that his feelings have also passed.

Scientists have discovered why cats hate dogs: the origins of mutual enmity

However, this does not mean that the owner should constantly cuddle the pet and care for it. The animal will perceive excessive attention as an imposition of someone else's will. Wanting to be left alone or simply to break out of the shackles of an embrace, the freedom-loving animal is capable of scratching even its beloved owner.

Thus, the cat owner will have to maneuver between the changes in the animal’s mood: give the necessary dose of attention when the pet craves it, and leave it alone when the pet intends to go about its business or just relax.

Punishments and physical influence

It is important for the owner of a cat to always remember that the animal does not do anything simply out of harm - the animal commits any pranks either by accident (for example, breaking a vase by catching it in a jump), or signaling that the owner has offended it very much. In neither case should you punish or scold your pet.

Raised intonations, screams and curses are very frightening to a person’s little, impressionable friend. After this, the pet may hide and not show itself for a long time. If the animal has a weak nervous system, it may never get rid of its fear of its owner in the future.

Can a neutered cat want a cat?

All sorts of physical manifestations of disrespect or punishment produce an even greater effect:

  • blows;
  • kicks;
  • clicks;
  • flip flops;
  • etc.

The likelihood that the animal will forgive this is extremely low. Even if he still accepts the apology and does not actively take revenge, he will avoid the offender and avoid close contact with him .

The pussy will never forget such an insult and will no longer treat this person the same.

For many cats, pulling by the scruff of the neck is considered physical abuse. Kittens calmly accept such an action only from their mother cat, who in this way either simply carries them from place to place or raises them. For an adult animal, this action is a great humiliation and insult. If a person does not want to spoil the relationship with a pet, he should never pick up the animal by the scruff of the neck. The only people a cat can forgive for such treatment are small children. But not every animal can get away with such behavior.

What can offend a cat?

Many of your actions can offend your cat:

  1. indifference and silence (the cat begins to feel unnecessary and because of this it often makes unforgivable mistakes, attracting attention to itself),
  2. loud screams and curses (the cat gets scared and begins to hide in the farthest corners; in especially difficult cases, the animal then has to be brought out of a frightened and depressed state for a long time),
  3. blows and kicks (the cat is mortally offended by you for this, and it will be very difficult to earn her forgiveness),
  4. imposing your will on the animal (in this case, the offended cat becomes angry and may suddenly scratch your face and hands for such actions).

In addition, many cats consider... pulling them by the scruff of the neck to be a mortal offense and insult! Of course, they should get used to this from childhood, but for adult cats such actions are often humiliating, and after them they simply will not want to take you seriously. Therefore, if you do not want to offend your cat, try to avoid such actions even in critical situations!

The only person from whom a cat could accept such treatment is a child. But... only the child whom the animal loves! His cat won’t hurt him in return (although damage to a couple of his favorite toys is possible), but the animal may well show aggression towards other people’s children who are negatively disposed towards the cat! Therefore, it is better to teach children from early childhood not to offend animals: this is not only a very serious offense, it is also a big risk - an angry cat can easily grab a child’s face and scratch his eyes.

Angry cat - get ready for a family quarrel

It is believed that if a person likes to needlessly offend a cat, there will never be peace and quiet in his family. Quarrels will constantly occur in this house for no apparent reason. The more anger the cat experiences, the noisier and longer the quarrel between family members will be. Also, in addition to family quarrels, the owner may begin to be haunted by illnesses and serious troubles.

Constant quarrels can lead to the destruction of a family

Don't leave your cat alone!

A very offensive situation for the animal is also your departure, in which you decide to leave the cat in a closed house for a long time. And even if you leave the animal with a sufficient amount of food and water and provide regular cleaning (for example, ask your friends), do not be surprised if upon your return you find your house destroyed! The cat is very upset by your absence, she feels loneliness and fear (it seems to her that you abandoned her), so she will be mischievous in order to somehow vent her negative feelings. However, don't think she's doing it out of spite. It’s simply hard for your animal to be alone at home, and his feelings are similar to those of a small child suddenly left unattended.

It is the fear of loneliness that should be explained by the sudden negative antics of a cat: puddles in your shoes or suitcase when you are about to leave somewhere, or a torn sofa that was attacked in your absence. It seems to you that the cat was being mischievous, but in reality she was... sad! And out of this longing, she found a place that has a strong smell of the owner in order to leave her mark on it!

Another taboo in handling a cat is beating. This action can offend the cat very much, and even if you think that the animal deserved a spanking, in fact it will feel very bad! The cat associates blows not with any of its actions, but only with you personally, and if it receives rudeness from you, it will feel seriously offended and will begin to fear dealing with you. The cat will remember that you can hurt it and will simply be afraid and wary of you. The situation is similar if you yell at a cat. She will perceive this only as an encroachment on her territory or on her right to be the mistress of the house, and she will see you as an enemy, towards whom she will begin to show either fear or aggression. If you really want to wean your cat off something, don’t yell at it! It’s better to start acting gently and gradually, without causing insults or insults to the animal. This way the success of your upbringing will be more obvious!

Often, in order to maintain order in the house, we are strict with our pets. They can’t urinate past the litter box, they can’t sharpen their claws on our beautiful furniture, they can’t sing songs at four in the morning, etc. They can’t do all of them! But sometimes, out of ignorance, we ourselves cause harm to our pets. And then, sitting at the veterinarian’s appointment, we are very worried and scold ourselves. To prevent this, it is important to know a few simple rules for caring for your cat. So, what should a cat owner not do?

botanichka writes about this.

  1. You can't hit a cat

The first prohibition is no violence! Remember, cats are not trainable, so the “carrot and stick” method is not for them. They are also very smart, stubborn and vindictive.

Although, of course, a lot depends on the character of the cat. There are warrior cats. If you yell at them or even beat them, then most likely they will do everything the other way around, out of spite. There will be no end to this battle and believe me, you will not win it.

And there are cats with very gentle characters. I feel sorry for them the most. At the slightest aggression on your part, they get very scared and hide somewhere under the bed. The owners later say about such cats: “She’s completely wild.” But ask yourself, why is it like this?

The only sure way to communicate with a cat is to always be calm and patient. Cats love affection very much (and so do you and me). If you treat your cat well, then she will become your friend, companion, and interlocutor. Otherwise, you will make a fierce enemy for yourself.

By the way, you can’t dip a cat’s nose into a puddle, it won’t do any good anyway. You can’t train them to use a litter box in such a barbaric way!

  1. You can't drag a cat by the tail

Cats should not be pulled or pulled by the tail. Categorically! But this is problematic when there are small children in the house. Very often they play with their pet this way. Therefore, we need to explain to them that this cannot be done. Why?

The thing is that the tail is part of the cat's spine. We all know from school how important the spine is for a person and how dangerous its damage is. Naturally, it is also dangerous for animals to damage it.

The tail contains a lot of nerve fibers, which are a continuation of the spinal cord. Just like in humans, vertebrae can be displaced relative to each other or even broken. Just imagine what will happen then! The cat can even be paralyzed.

  1. You can't cuddle a cat

By squeezing a cat, you can damage or break something; this especially applies to kittens whose bones and joints are still developing.

  1. You can't feed your cat human food.

Our food is not good for a cat. I recently met my neighbor, who told me from the bottom of her heart about how well she takes care of her pet: “So I cook myself millet porridge with milk and pumpkin, half for myself, and half for the cat.”

These words made me sad. Cats shouldn't eat our food. It is too salty for them, too fatty, etc. Even if you say: “I don’t salt a lot,” do you still add salt? This is not much for you, but for them it is a lot.

Nowadays there is a huge selection of all kinds of food - both dry and canned. They are all different in price, some are premium, some are cheaper. If you don’t want to feed your cat all this, then cook for it separately. This should be a balanced food intended only for cats. You can use it to brew oatmeal with fish or meat. It's a little troublesome, but quite doable.

Sometimes owners do not skimp on expensive dry food for their cat, but at the same time treat it with leftovers from their table. “She wanted it herself?” - some say. Or: “Cats won’t do anything bad to themselves!” No, they won't. But even such perfect creatures sometimes want something like that.

In a special food, all substances are balanced - proteins, proteins, vitamins, minerals are in exactly the proportions that are needed for the cat’s health. What happens if you stuff it with something extra? That's right, this balance will be disrupted. Then she will begin to receive a lot of something, and something else will begin to be eliminated from her body very quickly. This can lead to allergic reactions.

Therefore, if you want a healthy cat, you should not feed it both your own food and dry food or canned cat food.

  1. You cannot treat a cat with medications from your first aid kit.

Some of our medications may be suitable for cats. But there are also those that are poison. For example, it was a discovery for me when a veterinarian I knew warned me that all paracetamol-based medications, even in minute quantities, can send a cat to the next world. By the way, this was told to me so that I would hide my migraine medications away from them.

Also, compare our body weight to that of a cat. Even if some antibiotic is suitable, how do you calculate the dose relative to its weight?

Now there are many drugs for cats and dogs, antibiotics for their treatment. Therefore, there is no need to give them something “human”. And there is no need to self-medicate. This is also bad to do in the case of a person who can tell where and how he hurts. But the cat won’t even tell you this!

Therefore, if your pet suddenly refuses to eat, becomes apathetic, etc., it is best to immediately contact a veterinarian. After all, modern clinics are now equipped with all the necessary diagnostic facilities. There she will undergo tests, x-rays, and all the necessary procedures.

  1. You can't train a kitten to play with your hands

But sometimes you really want to tinker with this lump while it’s lying on your lap! Let him bite himself to his heart's content, tear him with his claws... After all, they are still so small, not sharp, and his paws are soft. And it doesn't hurt you at all. That's it for now!

The kitten will grow up very quickly. You won’t even notice how his fangs will become large and sharp, like sabers, and his claws will become prickly, like a cactus. And when he wants to bite you a little and tear you with his claws, even just a little, it will no longer be cute fun. Or even worse - it will start hunting your unfortunate hands! What did you expect? This is a predator! It will be difficult to wean a cat from this habit.

From the very beginning, when you brought the kitten home, play with it with anything, but not with your hands. So that he does not have such associations later. Use different toys, do not draw attention to your hands.

  1. You can't wash your cat every day

Sometimes especially clean owners get too carried away. It seems to them that it is right to wash kittens or adult cats, like children, almost every day.

It is generally not recommended to wash an adult cat. She does it perfectly herself. There are long-haired breeds that have to be washed after going to the litter box, but this is perhaps the exception. In this case, you can wash only those same places.

Kittens are washed only if necessary. When he gets very dirty and when his mother is not around to lick him. At the same time, we must remember that the cat’s temperature is higher than ours. And you need to not let the kitten catch a cold while bathing, protect it from drafts and then dry it thoroughly in a towel.

For bathing, you must use specialized shampoos, be it an adult cat or a kitten. Afterwards, the animal can be dried with a hairdryer, if, of course, it is not afraid of it.

To be honest, all my cats (I have 19 of them!) are afraid of this device. But my friend dries her long-haired cat only with a hairdryer, and he really likes it, and he himself substitutes one side or the other.

  1. Do not make any attempt to remove anything from the cat.

If you notice any foreign object sticking out from the cat's mouth or from under its tail, you should not pull anything from there! It could be a swallowed bag, a thread, your hair, New Year's rain (due to the danger for my cats, I have given up on it for many years), etc.

Don't make any attempt to get it. Go straight to the veterinarian, he has special equipment, an endoscope, etc. He will see the whole picture in full. Otherwise, you may damage something in the cat, its insides. You don’t know how far and how much everything is confused there.

  1. You can't cut a cat's whiskers

A cat's whiskers are not whiskers at all, but very important sensory organs - vibrissae. With their help, cats navigate at night. And they don't bother them at all. So it’s better to take care of your own beauty and leave the cat alone!

  1. Do not close interior doors

This is not so much a ban as a recommendation. Cats don't like closed doors. I can only advise keeping them open. Otherwise, you will become a doorman for your pet.

It is possible, of course, so. But sometimes it seems to me that they deliberately start walking here and there and always ask to open the door for them. It seems to amuse them.

A little mysticism

At all times, there were always people who tried to offend cats. This could come from boredom, or from innate cruelty, or even from the fact that in some society beating and killing cats was “accepted.” Such actions caused incredible suffering for animals, however... never before have cat offenders gone unpunished. Something very bad was sure to happen to them, and over time, people even developed various beliefs associated with cats: those who offended them were prescribed the most terrible suffering and dire consequences.

Of course, you can not believe in this and easily brush aside all the signs and warnings. However, do not forget that an offended cat, like a person, can feel pain, fear, loneliness, stress, depression and grief. And all these are very strong feelings that never pass without a trace. Even if an animal dies of melancholy, its pain will not disappear. This feeling will remain in the form of quite powerful negative energy, and it is not yet known how exactly this energy will affect you, and what exactly it can bring to you in the future!

To kill a cat means to endure seven years of misfortune

Killing a cat threatens the culprit with a long period of failure. In the old days, this sign sounded like this: “Whoever accidentally kills a cat will certainly face the death penalty or mortal danger.” This is due to the fact that a cat’s aura is large and “encompasses” not only the person with whom the animal interacts, but also his family and home.

Even if you don't believe in omens, killing a cat is an immoral act.

Causes of violence against animals

Why does a child mock insects and animals? There may be several reasons.

  1. I don't know what I'm doing.
    This can happen to young children who do not understand that animals hurt and that they can even die. Here's an example. A three-year-old child walks slowly along the sidewalk and suddenly - once - steps on an ant, and even laughs at the same time. Well, of course. He decided to play catch-up with the bug and quickly caught it. This is a real victory! Here you need to explain to the tormentor that the bug is also in pain and you can’t do it like him. But if the baby continues in the same spirit, you should be wary and try to understand his motivation.
  2. What's inside?
    For many children, a bug or a worm is the same as Lego, which can be disassembled and assembled. But this is even more interesting! The bug resists and twitches. Children “disassemble” the bug into parts like cars they play with. Sometimes they deliberately kill insects because they do not yet understand what life and death are. It's a game for them. Hit the caterpillar with your palm and see whether it crawls or not.
  3. And I can do that too (I will)
    . Very often, children mock insects, fearing that they will be considered timid. They do this “for the company” in order to be like everyone else. Sometimes children of school and preschool age try to assert themselves. If they are constantly pressured by their parents, or they experience persecution at school, tormenting an insect, dog or cat, they “let off steam”, the negative emotions that have accumulated in them. But often the parents themselves are to blame for this. The child repeats the behavior of his elders by throwing the cat out the door or tying up the dog.
  4. I am not afraid of you
    . Sometimes (relatively rarely) a child begins to take revenge on animals because they once scared him, bit him, or scratched him. It’s as if he wants to prove that he is stronger and can stand up for himself. And the second time you won’t end up in a situation that happened earlier.

If a child knows that he is hurting another being, but continues to do so, he should consult a psychologist.

But first you need to reconsider your behavior. Perhaps the reason lies precisely in the attitude of the parents towards him, and your child needs:

  • in praise;
  • feeling of security;
  • emotional contact with parents;
  • more relaxed environment.

Signs and superstitions about animals and pregnant women

There are many signs connecting pets and pregnancy. For example, it is believed that dreamed fish are harbingers of an imminent addition to the family. A similar sign is seen in dreams with baby animals - kittens, puppies and others. Pregnancy will be facilitated by joint photography with a fertile animal.

A calico cat in a pregnant woman's house is lucky

A tricolor cat in the house acts as a talisman for pregnancy, so you should absolutely not drive it away. If she came to the door during an interesting situation, she should be accepted into the house. It is believed that if the cat leaves on its own, the child is in great danger.

Another superstition says that a pregnant woman should not look at a mutilated animal, which, in her opinion, is ugly.

Superstitious people have long disliked cats around pregnant women, believing that their relationship would have a detrimental effect on the unborn child. Today, this sign has been refuted, except that a woman in labor does not need to touch street cats, and regularly take domestic cats to the veterinarian for vaccinations and other care.

However, pregnant women should not beat animals, since this really spoils karma; according to signs, the child will be born nervous. This is also explained by the fact that a woman is not recommended to make sudden movements or be nervous. On the other hand, cats promote peace if petted, as well as the development of immunity to toxoplasmosis.

Beat

Of course, all pets have different personalities. And some “pranks” can piss off even very calm people. But don’t rush to force yourself. Cats cannot be trained, so you will not achieve educational goals, but rather aggravate the situation. Cats have a good memory and vindictiveness, so displaying aggression can start a protracted war in which there will be no winners.

In a fit of anger, an adult may miscalculate his strength and injure his pet. Once you calm down, you will blame yourself for it, but you will not be able to fix anything. Revenge and physical injury are not the only consequences of human violence. Even if the cat’s health is not in danger, it can suffer psychological trauma and become depressed.

On the other hand, pets are often compared to children. Stop for a second and think. This is a helpless creature that depends on you for shelter, food, and safety. You took it voluntarily and are responsible for it. And if your children (existing or theoretically possible) stood in the place of the cat, would you raise your hand against them?

The only way to raise a cat is with a huge amount of patience, love and affection. By the way, this also works with people.
