There are very few people and organizations in the world that help abandoned animals find homes. It is also not easy to place kittens in good hands if the cat has had offspring, or you are leaving for another country and cannot take your pet with you. But there are no hopeless situations - there are ways that will help you quickly give your kitten a new home and a comfortable life.
Why is there such a need?
Approximately 46% of Russian families buy cats. These animals are unpretentious and feel great in an apartment, regardless of how busy the owners are. People most often buy a pet in the hope that it will be with them all their lives, but circumstances sometimes develop such that the animal has to be given away. The need for this arises for the following reasons:
- Allergies often cannot be cured, and this problem forces the owner to say goodbye to the kitten forever. This is difficult for an animal if it has already lived in the house for some time and is accustomed to the environment.
- Moving – often when changing their country of residence, people have to leave their pets in good hands. This is due to the reluctance to bother with quarantine and paperwork. Also, renting an apartment with a pet sometimes turns into a real adventure, and people prefer to give their pet to those who have all the conditions for keeping it.
- Death or illness of the owner - in this case, a new owner is sought for the kitten, otherwise the animal will end up on the street.
- The appearance of kittens in a cat - if the animal is not sterilized, it produces offspring that will have to be given away for free or tried to be sold.
How to prepare a cat for transfer to a new owner
People are more willing to take animals into their home when they are already grown up and socialized. You should not tear a suckling baby away from its mother. We need to teach him to eat on his own, use the toilet, and communicate with people.
For your information! At 8-10 weeks of life, kittens are vaccinated. The veterinarian checks your health and issues a sanitary passport. A person must be sure that he is adopting an animal that does not have developmental disabilities and is not dangerous for family members. Adults are castrated/sterilized before being handed over to someone else.
In families where cats live, situations arise when they are forced to part with the animals. How to give a kitten to new owners is taught on forums by people with experience in adopting animals. The main thing is not to throw kittens out into the street in the hope that kind people will pick them up. You just need to place the animal and be sure that it will be provided with care: feeding, treatment, education. To do this, they advertise on pieces of paper with tear-off phone numbers, in newspapers and on the Internet.

Optimal time to search for a home
An already grown-up pet will more easily tolerate changes in its usual lifestyle than a small kitten. Before looking for a new owner, it is important to teach your baby to feed himself, use a litter box, and treat people without fear.
Also, the animal must be in good health, it must be treated with special flea products and checked by a veterinarian. After 8-10 weeks, vaccination is mandatory. Now you can start looking for a new home for the kitten.
Prepare your ad wisely
If you craft your ad correctly, many more people will respond to it. Take several beautiful and high-quality photos in which the kitten will look cheerful, cute, and active. Add text to them - it should be exciting, creative, but truthful.
Tell us about the character of the animal, its external characteristics, try to find a lot of advantages. In the ad, be sure to indicate the breed, age, birthday, color (since not all users can download photos from the Internet). Be sure to indicate whether the kitten has a pedigree, whether it is vaccinated, whether it is trained to a tray or scratching post.
How to place kittens or puppies using the Internet
Just recently I wrote about how our cat gave birth to 4 kittens for my birthday. Not some rare bald champions that people line up and auction for. And these are ordinary, normal kittens. There are hundreds, if not thousands.
I understand how panicked people can be when faced with a similar situation. The simplest apparent solution seems to be to take the kittens to the box dealers, paying money for it. But I won’t talk about the fact that most often box breeders are not at all compassionate people who are unlikely to keep your animals for more than one or two days. What will they do with them next? Look on the Internet.
But even if your offspring is lucky, and someone takes them in this short time, most kittens or puppies from close communication with their brothers in the temporary box can become infected with anything - from fleas to diseases that are deadly for young creatures.
This is why I want people, before taking kittens to box breeders or simply throwing defenseless babies into the street, to try to adopt them via the Internet. Please give them a chance!
I can’t express in words how nervous I’ve been over the past few weeks, when a herd of young seals were rushing around my apartment, stomping around like a herd of elephants on the grazing.
After all, if I had not been able to find homes for the kittens, I would have had a chance to soon turn my apartment into the famous Internet meme “the apartment of an independent 40-year-old woman.”
This is not the first time I have placed kittens on www.avito.ru. I have rehomed abandoned kittens several times (link 1, link 2), so I decided to share my experience in this matter, in case this makes the number of unfortunate animals in our cities at least a little less.
Believe me, there are many people in the world who need your kitten or puppy. Even if he is completely out of breed. Animals can give people a lot of happiness and I am very happy for those who understand this and give them a place in their human lives.
I will share my observations and experience in this matter. Maybe someone will find it useful:
1) On average, it took me from 2 to 4 weeks to adopt kittens from advertisements. The last time, for 2 weeks, I actively advertised kittens and no one called and I was already starting to despair, and then suddenly they were all sold out in just three days. Inexplicable, but for some reason it’s like this.
2) It is worth recognizing that small kittens and puppies have greater liquidity. Despite the fact that sometimes there are fewer problems with older cats, everyone still wants babies. That is why I gave away my kittens at 1.5 months, although it is advisable to keep them with their mother for 2-3 months. But I was a little scared to be left with all this litter of cats.
3) www.avito.ru is the largest advertisement site in Russia, which, in my experience, turned out to be the most effective when adopting kittens.
“Hand to hand” advertisements posted around the house, unfortunately, had no effectiveness in my case. Perhaps an advertisement with a photo of kittens in a newspaper with a TV program or an advertisement on TV will have a positive effect. But this is somewhat more expensive and this is already such heavy artillery that I have not reached.
4) When placing an ad on Avito, try to time it so that your ad stays higher on the list for as long as possible and can catch the eye of a potential “buyer” as much as possible. Initially, you place an ad for free and your ad will be visible for some time, but after a couple of days the ad will “run away” far, far away and it’s not a fact that people will have the patience to get to your kittens. Or someone will be embarrassed to call because they will decide that since your ad is old, it means you have probably already given away your kittens.
5) Due to high competition, you need to be prepared for the fact that you will have to advertise your ads. Avito offers various formats and advertising packages. What I liked most was the “Quick Sale” option, which included VIP ads with promotion in the list. In our region, in the category with kittens, this option cost 199 rubles/week.
6) I recommend posting an ad for each puppy or kitten separately. In this way, they can be seen better in photographs and individual characteristics are easier to advertise.
The following are simple laws of advertising:
7) All kittens and puppies are cute! People love cats very much, and those who don’t like cats love dogs. In any case, those people who visited the Avito website and look at them in the “Animals” section definitely love them and are thinking about getting a pet. Otherwise, why would they even go there?
So, don't miss the opportunity and do your best to attract such people to your ad.
Try to take the most touching photographs of your kids - how they play, how they sleep, show how charming and beautiful they are. So that they are no worse than those that people send to each other on the Internet or post on calendars. Pictures attract attention best, and photographing babies is also fun. If you can make a video, even better!
Provide the photographs with an appropriate advertising description, so that you yourself want this kitten or puppy. What is his character, who is he like? For example, I saw that our little black kitten looked like a gentleman in a tailcoat with a white shirtfront. That’s why in the advertisements they called him James Bond’s kitten. When his new owner called, she asked: “They haven’t taken “Gentleman” from you yet...) It’s so cute and immediately puts you in a positive mood, right?
Also in my advertisement, I indicated that I was ready to give a “dowry” for each kitten in the form of a branded ceramic plate for food. The new owners didn’t count on it too much, but I also think it should be nice. But, of course, it’s not at all necessary)
About the price of kittens. Usually, outbred puppies and kittens are given away for free, but it is customary to take symbolic money for them “for good luck.” Usually this is a gold coin. But some, I know, set the price at 500 rubles in order to cut off “frivolous people” or children who take kittens out of mischief.
As a guarantee that people will be willing to bear the costs of a new pet. I don't know how effective this strategy is. I gave the kittens away “for gold”, making sure that the new owners were quite serious in their intentions just from the conversation.
In general, all the secrets. The main one is to be patient and not panic ahead of time. Try options, take new photos, change the description - and pretty soon you will achieve success. For sure!
I don’t know what the fate of the kittens I gave away will be, I hope that they and their new owners will be happy to live with each other. In any case, I know that I gave them this chance to the best of the strength and capabilities that I have.
Edifying:
But in general, for the future, if you don’t like getting into such situations, there is no time or extra money for this. If you are not ready to make efforts every year (or even a couple of times a year) to find a new family for your babies, and in case of possible failure, you are not ready to keep all the kittens or puppies of your pet, it is better to neuter your dog or cat ahead of time. This will be the most humane, cheapest and easiest way to avoid all this hassle.
Small and even adult animals thrown into the street do not survive. Don’t entertain the illusion that they will be picked up by the one who needs them. They will either be picked up by teenage monsters, or torn apart by dogs, or they will simply die of hunger and cold in agony. In general, don’t take sin to heart! There is no need for all this.
Better give this world joy and happiness as much as possible!
Preparing the animal for transfer
If you did everything correctly, applications from potential owners will begin to arrive very soon. Make sure the kitten is in good hands. Sometimes people who resell animals look for kittens through advertisements. They often ask to reduce the price. If something confuses you in a conversation with a person, it is better to refuse him - new applications will definitely come.
It is worth getting a phone number or other contact information from the future owner. It is better not to give the kitten to minors or people who live in a rented apartment - the owners of the property may prohibit them from keeping pets, and the kitten will again end up on the street or in a shelter. If your pet already has a veterinary passport, it should be given to the new owner. After 1 week, you can call him and ask how the kitten is adapting to the new environment.
How to create and place an ad to adopt a cat
Give a cat to a shelter: where to give kittens forever
You can adopt a pet via the Internet. To do this, it is important to correctly compose the text, take a high-quality photo, and also take into account other important nuances. There are several recommendations to consider:
- The photograph of the animal must be of high quality. It is better to capture a cat against a beautiful background, in a jump, with a beautiful toy. Ideas can be very different;
- The text in the ad should be no less catchy than a beautiful photo. As practice shows, potential owners pay attention not to dry facts about the animal, but to its humorous features (a top-class massage master, the best pill for sadness and melancholy, and much more);
- It is not recommended to invent elite roots for a purebred cat. Having fallen into the hands of people who are chasing free elite animals, the cat will quickly end up on the street, not meeting their expectations.
Important! Black cats should not be placed before black dates and events. At this time, they can be taken away for the purpose of subsequent sacrifice.
Features of writing text
Before placing kittens or finding a new family for an adult cat, you need to deworm them, treat them against skin parasites, get the necessary vaccinations, and you can begin to correctly compose the text for the advertisement.
Since there are quite a lot of outbred animals available for free adoption, it is necessary to create an advertisement in such a way that it attracts potential owners.
Posting advertisements as a way to adopt a cat
So, a good text should include:
- animal's name;
- gender and castration (sterilization) data;
- information about vaccinations and treatments performed;
- an interesting description of the animal, combining information about its character and habits;
- high-quality, catchy photo.
Note! As practice shows, future owners like advertisements containing humorous facts, interesting emotional stories and a non-standard description of the pet.
When writing text, you should consider several rules:
- originality. You should not copy other people's advertisements, because the result will not be unique, and the description will correspond to a completely different animal. Correctly chosen words that characterize a particular cat are the key to success;
- psychological picture. Each animal is unique, so it is necessary to correctly describe its character and behavior. To do this, you should take a closer look and describe her type: socialized, knows her worth, leader, balanced, shy, charismatic, curious, etc.;
- positive attitude. As practice shows, people do not always want to know about the tragic fate of a particular cat. It is better to create an ad with a positive attitude;
- one animal - one ad. This rule especially applies to the placement of kittens.
Where to place a cat: the first option is foster care
Overexposure is the temporary transfer of an animal to people who can house it if the owners are leaving or they have other reasons to be without a pet at the moment (for example, relatives who are afraid of cats are coming). Many similar offers can be found on the Internet.
If you decide to use foster care, you need to give the person looking after the animal all the care products, as well as your favorite toys. It is important to leave money for food and pay for the service.
Overexposure has many advantages. First of all, it is a calm home environment to which the kittens get used. You can also always keep in touch with the person providing supervision, asking if everything is going well. The disadvantages include the presence of other animals in the house and the inability to check the conditions in which your pet is kept.
Possible places where an animal can hide
Considering the issue of a domestic cat running away, how to find it requires studying the probable places of the loss. In practice, an animal can approximately hide in the following places:
- entrances from the upper floors, while at the same time you need to try to inspect baby strollers, buckets, shoes, other items located on landings, places near the garbage chute;
- basement, attic. In order to open these premises, you must contact the Housing Office and receive the keys to the doors;
- carrying out searches on the street, since cats love elevated places and can be on a tree, roof of a house, pole, balcony, tall bush;
- in winter, a cat can hide in places such as heating pipes, a car engine, or a heating radiator located in the entrance;
- possible search locations on the street (garage, shed, other utility rooms);
- in many cases, the animal gets lost on the street in hard-to-reach places, so storm drains, sewers, and drainpipes must be checked;
- When searching for a cat, a hungry animal is often found near trash cans and food preparation areas (a dining room kitchen or a cafe located near the house).
Possible places of loss in the house:
- inspection of furniture, closet, niche, space under the bed;
- the upper part of the closet, sideboard, furniture wall, since cats love to hide in these secluded places;
- empty boxes and other containers that can accommodate an animal;
- the window of the washing machine, which is constantly open and ventilated;
- balcony and adjacent structures.
Finding a cat in the country is much more complicated due to the large territory, great access to wild nature (proximity to a forest, river), and possible collisions with wild animals. In this case, the pet may take refuge in a neighbor’s house, so it is important to check this option.
During search activities, you need to call the animal by name, try to rustle it with its favorite food, or wear a toy that is familiar to it, as these factors can make the task easier and find the missing cat on the street.
Catcafe
If you do not have the opportunity to keep a kitten, you can give it to a cafe where visitors come to chat with cats. Recently, such establishments have become very popular. Perhaps your city also has such a cafe, and you won’t need to worry about where to place your pet.
The advantage is that the cat will be well looked after, and a large number of visitors will definitely ensure constant communication. The disadvantages are the high demands placed on animals. In addition, there may not be a similar cafe for animals in your city.
Also read a separate article about the cat cafe.
Through the Internet
Nowadays, on the Internet you can find addresses of hotels for animals or contacts of people willing to adopt a pet free of charge. Plus the speed of finding the owner. The downside is the lack of verified information about it. Resellers often hide on websites.
You can post information on online message boards in your region, as well as make posts on social networks. You can use the website avito.ru.
In good hands with friends
You can ask your friends and relatives if they would like to get a pet. Perhaps someone was just about to do this. Taking a pet that is already litter trained and vaccinated is always beneficial. That's why people often agree to it.
The advantages are that the owner can be found quickly, in addition, you can visit the kitten from time to time. There are practically no downsides - except that a person may later abandon the animal and begin to look for somewhere to place it.
How to prepare an animal?
Before parting, it is recommended to show your pet to a veterinarian and carry out parasite prevention.
Even if the owner has found a suitable and favorable place for his pet, where the cat will be looked after, treated and not offended, separation is still a big stress, from which the cat will suffer more than the person. However, the situation is inevitable, so the animal must be prepared for other living conditions. Before handing over your cat to a chosen location, you must take it to a veterinarian for examination, get all vaccinations according to schedule, and remove parasites. If the cat has been placed in good hands, it is recommended to invite the future owners to meet them. You should watch your four-legged friend to see how he reacts to a stranger. If the animal categorically refuses to make contact, it is better not to trust it to this family.
Under no circumstances should a cat be given to children who claim that their parents allowed them to have a cat. A pet can only be trusted by an adult, adequate person.
Other options
Recently, there has been an increase in the number of advertisements in which people are ready to adopt kittens that have just been born. With their entire appearance, they show that they are doing a good deed, relieving the owner of the need to support the kids and bear all the associated expenses. These are the so-called “box breeders” who use homeless or newly born animals in order to pity passers-by and get money.
Fraudsters do not feed the animals, but simply throw out their corpses and go for a new batch of “goods.” This is why it is so important to look at who exactly you are giving your pet to.
Proper communication with future owners
Conversations with potential owners need to be conducted in a balanced manner. Do not persistently force kittens to attack a person. It’s better to talk in a calm tone about the pet’s merits: what commands he understands, how he behaves in the apartment and with family members, what he likes to play with.
Note! Each cat has its own character. You need to describe it truthfully. In a conversation, if this is a stranger, they take a closer look at him and draw up a psychological portrait of the applicant.
You want to give your favorite animals or a street foundling to safe hands so as not to worry about its future fate. Therefore, the owners watch the person they want to entrust the care of the cat to. Whether he has a sincere desire to have a companion, whether he is a friendly person, whether he is ready not only to feed the animal, but also to treat it, to vaccinate it on time - such moments are gradually clarified in the conversation.
Important! You need to make it clear to the person that if he doesn’t cope, so that he doesn’t have to worry about where to put the cat, they are ready to take him back.
Politeness and objectivity are the main directions of dialogue with future cat owners. If something in the conversation is embarrassing or remains unsaid, it is better for the applicant to refuse.
A well-groomed domestic cat is more likely to find a new home
Cat's House website
This is one of the well-known resources that publishes photographs and data of animals that owners plan to give away for various reasons. The site has strict moderation and high requirements for the preparation of advertisements, since the more complete the information, the easier it is to place an animal. That is why, when composing an advertisement, indicate:
- age, date of birth, gender;
- presence or absence of diseases, vaccinations;
- habits and skills.
On the site they are looking for new owners for adult animals - newborns cannot be placed here, but an older kitten can be offered by making an advertisement.
How to deal with a shitting cat?
I have 2 cats. Junior year. We picked him up at the age of 3-4 months and couldn’t pass him by. She was thrown into the entrance to my friend (she first saw a woman with a child and a cat entering the entrance, then only the cat)
Then I should have thought about why they rejected an almost purebred kitten (a Thai-colored cat with beautiful blue eyes with lanterns)
At first I didn’t notice anything, the cats became friends, the world is friendship. Then one puddle, then another. I sinned on anything, but not on the cat! It would seem, what does she want? Until, before my eyes, she pissed first on my jacket, then on my son’s second shoes and on my husband’s laptop bag. Then, having started searching, I found a bunch of dried puddles. The apartment was pissed in the bathroom and the corridor in the nooks (but it didn’t smell that bad, so they didn’t notice)
We decided to sterilize the cat; she started asking for the cat early. The sterilizer helped for a while. I treated her like a child, carried her into the potty, and praised her for every puddle in the potty. Before this, by the way, the filler was changed, and the toilet with the potty was closed for prevention, then she shit where necessary.
Further, pregnancy, my nerves, when the cats started to get really mad, I locked them in different rooms so that they both cooled down. And then during the games there is fur in all directions, the grinding of claws on the tiles brrr. In general, they were friends. So the cat started peeing in the room during closing time. At first I thought, who knows, well, I’m at the wrong time, well, she wanted it, the poor fellow. Until one day she just went to the potty, and I locked both of them in the room for 2 minutes while the floor dried in the corridor. At that moment, this bastard pissed on a frameless chair in the nursery. She just pissed in the tray, and then she openly took revenge on me! This was repeated several more times, and they stopped locking it, only rarely by accident. As a result, 2 armchairs were shredded through several times, after each such prank I washed them for weeks. I pissed on my pillow for B. I also pissed on our bed.
As a result, a couple of months ago, after another dinner on a freshly washed chair, my nerves could not stand it. I wrote to our animal rights activists, they decided to stay in a private house with a bunch of cats. I cried and felt so sorry for her, I took her to my mother. I think let him live with her, nearby, and we’ll visit her. True, mom is only home late in the evening. I brought it and saw that the shutter on my mother’s window was open, it was hot. Reluctantly I left, and of course everyone cried. All day I imagined terrible pictures of her falling from the 9th floor. And at home, my second cat walked around screaming, then lay with her eyes open, looking at one point. Suffering, I thought. And I felt so sorry for all of us, I drove myself into hysterics, and eventually took it back.
From that moment on, the older cat did not breathe much love for the younger one, which led us to the conclusion that her entire dumbfounded appearance said that she could not believe in her happiness!))
This is basically a lyric. The cat began to behave decently, my love for her increased a little (I am indifferent to her, her children love her and her mother). The praise and affection increased after trips to the litter box. Here, a couple of weeks ago, when I walked into the nursery, I smelled the smell of, excuse me, shit. Some kind of crap dug up the blanket from my daughter’s pillow, shit there and buried it with the blanket! We got both because if you're not caught, you're not a thief.
A couple of days pass, history repeats itself. The shit is removed without any pussy, obediently, the bed is changed. Another day passes, the older cat poops in the tray in front of me, half an hour later I’m lying on the bed, the younger cat jumps up and starts digging on my bed!! In the end, I kicked her out into the tray and she suckled there. Well, everything is clear right away, right?
Yesterday there was a lot of shit on the baby's pillow again! Fuck for what???? I understand that she is taking revenge on me, what does that have to do with my daughter? She is considered her cat, she adores her! Doesn't offend, caresses constantly. I couldn’t stand it, I tossed my face around in this shit.
I went to change the bed, I smelled a stink in the bathroom - under the bathtub there was a basin with bath toys all pissed off! I washed it.
Right now I’m going into the nursery, I look at the crumpled blanket at the head of my daughter’s bed, I’m alone at home. I open it - it's fucked up! The entire bed has been scoured down to the mattress!!!! And this bitch is lying on the balcony and dragging herself!!! The eldest was sleeping on the chair in the room with me!
I threw it out into the entrance, I’m sitting here crying, why??? What is she missing?? Food for slaughter, affection from children until the shit out of them. We always remove shit from the tray, my husband changes the litter regularly. The second cat is behaving decently!
Girls, I’ve had close-knit cats all my life, from my conscious age the cat lived alone until old age, pissing past the litter box, but next to it!!! She was so stubborn, but no surprises! After her, Masyanya pooped consistently next to the tray, and did not retrain! But it’s nearby, and not throughout the apartment!
I feel so sorry for myself(((I feel sorry for the children, they will cry. I feel sorry for her, so I don’t raise my hand to throw her out into the street..... I wrote to the girl who offered foster care. She said then that maybe she would be better off in a private home. I feel like a traitor (((but I can’t take it anymore. Mom won’t take her anymore. And when I imagine puddles and shit in the stroller and baby’s crib, I feel bad. She already has an unhealthy interest in this.... I had to hide everything I bought until the birth... .
You can criticize me, scold me, I will listen to all opinions.
Ps: dear moderators, I can’t make a cut from my phone or tablet (((the computer will only be available in the evening, please help or don’t swear until the evening)))
Mr. Cat offers: tips when a cat is found on the street
If you see an animal on the street, you need to immediately take it to a place where it will feel safe. Examine your cat for wounds or illness. It’s good if you can keep him at home until you find the previous owner or place the pet in good hands. The cat needs to be fed, washed, treated with anti-parasite medication, and shown to a veterinarian. Then you can take a photo of it and post an ad on websites to find the owner.
If it is not possible to keep the animal at home, you can find a shelter for it and bring food there every day. Join forces with other people who care about the fate of homeless animals. It is better to keep information about where the shelter is located secret, devoting it to a minimum number of people, so that no one kills or steals the cat.
Where can you give a domestic adult cat if it is no longer needed?
When they encounter an advertisement for an adult cat, animal rights activists panic: according to statistics, 81% of stray animals end up on the street due to the fault of irresponsible owners.
The reasons why a family has to part with a pet can vary. If this is a necessary measure, it is necessary not only to find a new home, but also to make the move as gentle as possible: the animal has a hard time with a change of place of residence. Particularly sensitive individuals may even die.
According to statistics, cats live in almost half of Russian families. Once she came to a person’s house, she became a real mistress. Animals have adapted to life in city apartments so much that only rare individuals dream of “walking wherever they please, taking a walk on their own.” However, sometimes life with a beloved owner comes to an end - the family wants to give the pet into good hands. Why?
Some reasons why even the most loving owners have to part with their pet can be considered valid:
- Allergy. Contrary to popular belief, most often this is a reaction not to fur, but to saliva, skin particles and fleas that can live on the cat. In 80% of cases, antihistamines are ineffective. The only way out is to eliminate the cause of the allergy, give the cat to a shelter or new owners. Adaptation to new conditions will take time.
- Moving. In advertisements about where to place it, it is mentioned as the most common reason why people try to give away a cat. It is unlikely that truly loving owners will part with a family member. Moving is an insignificant excuse; people are not moving to the moon. However, residents of rented apartments have to reckon with the demands of the owners.
- Death of the owners. Love for a four-legged friend is not always typical for the whole family. Sometimes a cat left behind after the death of an elderly person is no longer needed by his children. The question arises: “Where should I give the cat?”
Owners of free-ranging pets also have to deal with the problem of accommodation. Having happily spent the summer at the dacha, Murka gives birth to kittens, and the owners are forced to solve the problem of finding new owners for their mustachioed offspring.
Usually owners see several ways to give their cat:
- Find owners among friends or by advertisement. The ideal option is if these are good friends who love animals.
- Give it to a shelter. Those who decide to get rid of a boring cat have high hopes for them. But there are not enough shelters in cities, and life in them, even for those who are “lucky” to get there from the street, is not sweet. Cage, lack of food. And there is very little hope that someone will take you into the house, caress you and take care of you.
- Send to the street. Zoo defenders know: domestic cats that are not accustomed to street life die on the street in the first year of life. They do not know how to hide in case of danger, are unable to obtain food, and are not adapted to life on the street. Stress causes a surge in diseases even in vaccinated and healthy people.
What to do with purebred kittens, and how to check the future owner
Breeders with experience rarely have problems placing purebred kittens - on the contrary, a waiting list forms for them even before the babies are born. But beginners may find that there are still very few applications. This means that you need to look for buyers or give animals away for free. Many, after a series of painful searches, renounce raising animals for sale altogether.
To avoid such situations, remember the following:
- It is better to breed a female through a club, with the help of which you can find a purebred cat. Its owners may already have contacts of potential buyers.
- It is better to look for clients before mating in order to understand the level of demand - it even changes depending on the season. For example, in summer animals are bought less often than at other times.
- Use social media and the internet to post your sale. Also, buyers often pay attention to certificates and pedigree.
- If you plan to breed for a long time, create groups and communities in which you will post photos and information.
- Kittens with good photos are successfully sold on websites, so there is no need to skimp on this.
The new owner can be checked on social networks to see if there is any negative information about him. It is also important to exchange contact information with him and call him within a week to ask how the kitten is feeling. You can even ask permission to come and visit him. You need to be wary if a person arrives drunk, is confused in answering questions, is nervous, or bargains.

How to wash a cat: options if he is afraid of water and scratches
Owners need to know what to do if a cat is lost, and where to start searching for their pet. First of all, you need to determine exactly how the small pet left the home. Possible options:
- if he was released by careless guests, then it is likely that the cat is now in the entrance or has ended up in the attic, if there is access there;
- if a pet falls out of a window, pay attention to which side it happened from. The animal is scared and seeks privacy, so you should look from the side where the fall occurred. Very often it was possible to find the animal under the balconies above the owner’s apartment; the pet itself responded to its name.
Note! The more time passed since the fall, the greater the distance the animal could cover.
If the search “hot on the heels” is not successful, other measures need to be taken. There are several tips that will tell you how to find a cat if it has run away.
Don't despair, if the cat is alive, you can find it with some effort.
Spreading information about a missing cat
All sorts of methods are used for this. In every city there are popular forums where you must post information, photos of the cat and your contact information on them. There will definitely be people who are not indifferent. On social networks, for example, VKontakte, information about a missing pet can be posted in special groups dedicated to lost and found animals, as well as in the “Overheard... (city name)” groups, they have a fairly wide audience. The method is effective even if a lot of time has passed since the loss and the animal could have ended up in another area.
In addition, it is important to print and post missing notices. In some cities they are immediately torn off from notice boards and poles; in this case, distributing leaflets to passers-by will help.
How to create an ad:
- Indicate the cat's breed and approximate age.
- Note the distinctive features that will help distinguish the animal from similar ones, for example, a triangle-shaped birthmark on the neck.
- Indicate contacts, preferably several people (for example, husband and wife), in order to always be in touch and be able to respond urgently.
Note! It’s very good if you can post a photo of the missing cat, preferably in color.
Posting advertisements is an old method, but effective.
Taking steps to get the cat to come back on its own
When studying the question of what to do if a cat goes missing, it is important to understand that only active actions will help return the runaway to the apartment. You need to regularly go around the yards, call your pet by name, even if it is non-standard like Cosine or Pouf, the main thing is that the cat hears the sound of its owner’s voice.
It is necessary to check all the basements of nearby houses, because if a cat accidentally fell or jumped out during heat, then, trying to hide, she could crawl into the basement and sit under the pipes. You need to call the cat loudly and clearly in the wording that is used at home. For example, if Melissa for some reason became Fenya, then Fenya must be called, otherwise the pet will not respond and may disappear forever.
Note! If during the search the cat itself does not speak, but the owner hears the meowing of other cats, you need to check this place. Perhaps this is how males react to a cat in trouble.
Where to get information about accidents involving animals
This is one of the worst-case scenarios, but it is important to be prepared for anything. Some owners allow cats to roam freely, but traffic rules cannot be explained to the animal. Therefore, if an animal runs away from an apartment or private house onto the street, it is important to conduct a check in this direction.
First of all, there are special groups on social networks in which information about road accidents, including those involving pets, is published. Posts may contain photos, as well as information about whether the affected cats are alive and where they are.
Important! You should not think that irresponsible drivers who drive thoughtlessly kill their pets. It also happens that the animal is so afraid that it runs out onto the road suddenly, making it impossible to stop the vehicle.
Animals are not allowed on the streets
Often, desperate to find a new owner, or simply due to lack of time, people simply let their animals go outside, believing that nothing will happen to them - this is how stray cats and dogs live. But you should not compare a pet, accustomed to comfortable conditions, with a yard pet.
A kitten or even an adult will die from relatives or from hunger. The animal is not accustomed to defend itself, hide from the cold, or get food. It also doesn't know how dangerous cars are on the roads. Only a tenth of abandoned kittens survive on the streets. Therefore, it is better to take them to a shelter than to kick them out of the house.
Remember, buying a pet is a serious responsibility. Plans and circumstances change, but this should not prevent the owner from remaining human to the end, making sure that the pet continues to live in comfortable conditions.
If you meet a stray cat on the street
Don't pass by, don't remain indifferent. The best way to help an animal is to take it home, at a minimum - get rid of worms, wash it, clean its eyes and ears. Inspect for skin damage or wounds.
The cat needs to be taken to the veterinarian, even if he seems healthy. An examination by a doctor and tests will show possible pathologies. The veterinarian will tell you the approximate age and give recommendations on treatment and nutrition. Cats found on the streets quickly adapt to home conditions.
If you do not plan to keep your pet, take measures to accommodate the animal. Inform animal rights activists about the “find” - many animals are lost on city streets, perhaps a mustachioed stray - a “lost one”, and they are looking for him. Take photos and post on social media, local message boards and online.
Animals trust their owners, and cats have their own Hachiko. It is important not to give away a cat on a whim, but only when there is no other option. Shelters, the street, the basement are not a place for a cat. It is better to find her kind hands and a warm home, where the pet will not experience stress, but will feel loved again.
