Is it possible to bury a cat in a summer cottage? How and where to bury a cat: all traditional and modern methods and rules. Farewell at the veterinary clinic

It happened

Even in the morning the cat was enjoying life: he ate with gusto, then played.
During the day he disappeared somewhere, but his owners didn’t catch him right away. And in the evening they found a pet in the closet. Already cooled down. Unfortunately, this happens. An old animal may show exceptional activity before death. And then quietly hides to die. The cat died, and the house immediately became empty. The old man lived in the house for more than ten years, and now he is gone. This does not fit into consciousness. Alas, animals sooner or later leave this world, just like people.

It is doubly offensive and painful when a young cat passes away. Due to prolonged illness or accident. How to bury your pet with dignity? More on this in the following paragraphs.

How to survive the death of a cat

Feeling the approach of death, cats tend to get away from people. When this is not possible, they hide in a secluded place.

There are symptoms by which you can determine the imminent death of a cat:

  • loss of appetite, refusal of food and water;
  • shortness of breath and difficulty breathing;
  • slow heartbeat and low blood pressure;
  • a decrease in temperature and the presence of an unpleasant odor.

These are warning signs, especially if your cat is over 10 years old. If you discover their presence, contact your veterinarian - perhaps the animal is simply experiencing an exacerbation of a chronic disease. In hopeless cases, the doctor may suggest euthanizing the animal. If this option is unacceptable, surround the cat with care and create conditions for a calm death.

The death of a beloved pet is always grief and tragedy. The first reaction of an orphaned owner to stress may be stupor, tears and apathy. The realization of the loss comes later. To fill the resulting spiritual emptiness, distract yourself - take on the worries associated with the funeral, because someone will have to do this anyway. Report your cat's death to those who care.

Don’t hold back, cry, tears bring relief. Talk to someone who cares about your loss. And if there is no way to speak out “in a clear voice,” consult a psychologist. There is nothing shameful in this; on the contrary, few people have the courage to admit their weaknesses and turn to a specialist.

If your cat's death occurred after a long, painful illness, try to rejoice at her arrival - she put an end to the animal's suffering.

Keep yourself busy. Come up with an activity, a hobby that will distract you from sad thoughts. Become a volunteer at a shelter for homeless animals, although you can’t help your pet in any way, but you can do a lot for others. Place a few poor souls in good hands, help cure a dog or cat.

Helping the shelter will be useful for both you and the animals suffering from lack of attention.

It is difficult to get rid of the guilt when having to resort to euthanasia. Convince yourself that by saving your cat from suffering, you have done a good deed. It’s normal to sacrifice your feelings and give up your desires for the sake of others.

According to psychologists, the pain after the loss of a loved one subsides after one year. Don’t let sad thoughts drive you into depression during this time. Distract yourself: at work, immerse yourself in business, at home, keep yourself occupied with something new.

Support from loved ones can help you cope with loss

It is more difficult to explain the death of a pet to a child, especially a child of 2–3 years old, when the feelings are deep and strong. The death of a cat can be a reason to talk about death with older children.

If you decide to euthanize, you do not need to tell your child about it. However, if the topic of euthanasia comes up, you should not shy away from the conversation. Try to explain to the child why this was necessary, tell about the suffering that the cat experienced at the end of its life. Explain to your child in accessible, simple words. Let the death of a beloved animal become for him not a universal tragedy, but a life experience.

When a cat dies of old age, of course, a terrible burden hangs over the soul, which does not go away for quite a long time. We really love four-legged creatures that are constantly nearby throughout their short lives. After this tragedy, thoughts begin to arise where to bury the cat?

The best cat in the world

You can also order an urn for the ashes of your beloved cat.

Where should you not bury a cat?

Being upset and under pressure from the law, some owners decide to bury their pet in the courtyard of a private house, on a summer cottage

or in the garden. There is no need to do this, because over the next few months you will be struggling with the grief of loss, and constantly being near the grave will greatly complicate this process. Having buried your pet at your summer cottage, you will experience pain every time you come for a summer vacation or on other business.

There is no need to bury cats
in a human cemetery
. By committing such an act, you will show disrespect for the relatives of the deceased and, most likely, you will quickly discover the destroyed grave of your pet. Whether you believe in God or not, from the point of view of the church, animals do not have souls and they cannot be buried in a human cemetery. You may not care about this convention, but the cemetery can be visited by religious people who are clearly not comfortable with an animal grave next to human headstones.

You can also order an urn for the ashes of your beloved cat.

Funeral services agency

How to bury a cat? One option is to contact an animal funeral agency. All unpleasant procedures will be taken care of here. You can order a coffin or headstone for your pet, and specialists will dig a grave for your pet.

This service is available to residents of large cities. How to find such an agency? Contact private and public veterinary hospitals. They usually work closely with such companies.

There are funeral agencies for animals from which you can order a coffin and monument. There are those who do cremation. You can order an urn for the ashes from them and carry out the burning itself.

Funerals will cost more than cremation services. If a cat dies, it is cheaper to cremate it. It will cost about 3,000 rubles.

Bury yourself or ask for help?

You can organize the funeral of a domestic cat yourself or use the services of specialized companies. They must have the appropriate license. Professionals will take care of the cremation of the animal, provide a place in a special cemetery, dig a grave and, at the request of the owners, install a slab or tombstone. The only difficulty is that scammers may try to profit from the grief of owners who have lost a pet, and instead of burying it in a special place, they will throw the animal into a landfill.

If you bury a cat yourself in winter, then one of the main problems is digging a grave. Its depth should start from 80 centimeters - this is a requirement of the sanitary and epidemiological service. Since the ground can freeze during the cold season, you need to prepare not only a shovel, but also a crowbar and a grinder for cutting the soil and crushing large layers.

How to honor the memory of a pet and not break the laws, but is there a choice?

Not many domestic animals are given the honor of being buried in a personal grave in a specialized cemetery or in their own garden; most of them are buried in city wastelands and even in parks. The recent discovery of an unauthorized cemetery in Lasnamäe, where some of the graves even had stones and slabs on them, has once again brought the problem to the forefront.

Hamsters, parrots, cats, dogs - they all become family members. But when animals die, the owner is faced with a difficult task - where and how to bury his pet.

Quite often, love outweighs commercialism (where to take the animal is unknown, there is a suspicion that the services of funeral agents for animals are expensive), and the simplest solution is a cheap funeral in the nearest vacant lot. However, this is, firstly, illegal, and secondly, punishable.

We have crematoria not only for people, but also for pets. Moreover, we have more than one of them in the whole country, as many mistakenly believe.

“Our Tallinn pet crematorium opened a year ago, in May 2013,” says manager Riin Remma. “More than 200 animals were cremated in a year, and the service is becoming increasingly popular.”

Cremation is indeed more convenient than conventional burial for a number of reasons. Firstly, there is no need to search for a cemetery, organize a place, or finally dig a grave (if we are talking about a personal garden, for example). The urn with ashes can be collected. Or you can leave it.

“I can also note that we have more and more clients every year,

— says Elena, a worker at the Maardu pet crematorium. – And if previously the clients were mostly Estonian-speaking, now more and more Russians are also turning to us. They bring animals from all over Estonia, once they even came from Jõhvi.”

How does this happen? Everything is more than simple. Firstly, there is a transportation service. Some enterprises have the possibility of round-the-clock transportation, but as crematorium workers note, they have never gone to night calls.

Next, the owner chooses what type of cremation is suitable for his deceased friend: individual or general. It is determined whether he will take the urn with the ashes or leave it for disposal. And if he does, then which urn is preferable, because the choice is quite wide. You just pay.

Christian

Not everyone accepts cremation. And many prefer to bury “safely” - so that there is a sad mound, a stone at the head, so that there is somewhere to come and be sad, to remember the years spent together...

“If we are talking about the capital, then you can bury your pet on your own land,” explains a representative of the Tallinn Department of the Environment. – But only on the condition that the dead animal does not pose a danger to the health of people and animals.

At the time of death, the animal must not be suffering from infectious diseases, such as rabies or plague. Second, the grave must be deep enough so that urban omnivorous birds or animals cannot reach the remains.

And thirdly, the burial takes place whenever possible without harming the environment.”

In other cases, punishment may follow.

If you are caught with a shovel and other convincing evidence, a fine cannot be avoided.

“The size of the fine depends on many parameters,” says Katrin Valgma, a specialist at the Veterinary and Food Department of Animals.

We suggest you read: How to help a cat give birth at home

– In general, violation of veterinary requirements for the disposal of animal waste is subject to a fine of up to 200 fine units, that is, up to 800 euros.

It can be increased to 300 units (1200 euros) if there is a danger to human health or the environment. If the violator is a legal entity, the fine may be up to 2,000 or 3,200 euros, respectively.”

Everything is like people

As it turns out, we have quite a lot of pet cemeteries. They are scattered all over Estonia and are quite easy to find. The search engine, when combining lemmikloomade kalmistu, produces a sufficient number of links.

However, they all “work” only by prior agreement. Similar places exist in Põltsamaa (Lillemetsa cemetery) and Rakvere (Kullaaru village). A separate grave at the Rakvere cemetery will cost 48 euros, a common grave for a dog will cost 15 euros, and a cat will cost 10 euros. There is also a cemetery in the city of Valga, not far from the shelter for homeless animals.

Near Tallinn there is another, almost legendary, pet cemetery. It is located in Jõelähtme, and now, according to approximate estimates of its owner, there are about 6,000 animals here - this is how many burials have appeared in 21 years of work.

“I don’t advertise it too much—there aren’t very many places left,” she says.

“Now those who know about us or who bring another of their deceased pets come here - of course, I don’t refuse them.”

The reasons for purchasing pets are varied: some people want to come home and see another living creature, for others it is a way of instilling responsibility, and for others it is simply an aesthetic contemplation of beauty.

If previously cats and dogs were mainly considered pets, in our time the list has expanded significantly. Sometimes it includes quite exotic species. Regardless of what qualities a pet has and how long it lives, all of them are not immune from death.

What to do in this case and is it possible to bury animals?

If we compare the life of a person and a pet, the duration of the latter is quite short.

The average lifespan of representatives of some groups reaches a decade, for some it is less, for others it is more. But none of them is able to avoid death.

There are many opinions about whether animals have a soul or not, but sooner or later everyone is faced with the question of where pets are buried?

It is common for people to worry about their demise while they are still alive. They save money and buy plots of land in the cemetery. They are preparing to ensure that this event does not take them by surprise. Whereas the death of a pet can come unexpectedly. And then the question arises: where to bury the animal?

There are no official cemeteries for animals. That is why people bury them wherever they have to. It can be:

  • vacant lots,
  • yard next to the house,
  • roadsides
  • parks,
  • squares,
  • flower beds,
  • spontaneously organized cemeteries.

The answer to this question is ambiguous. There are both supporters and opponents. By law, a pet's corpse is considered household waste, and therefore must be disposed of in a landfill. but who would agree to throw their close friend into the trash heap?

That is why many people try to bury an animal within a public cemetery through deception and secret means. But in this case, problems arise with public opinion. Even if there is a desire to bury a pet within the family plot, both cemetery services and the church will still be against it.

Some clinics have such a corpse, but not all owners agree to this.

Also, many people say that you can’t live in a cemetery. But these are just superstitions. To believe in it or not is entirely your decision.

If everything is clear with the human funeral procession and there is certain information that can be obtained from various sources, then there is no such information about the funeral of pets.

There are two types of burials:

  • cremation,
  • burial in the ground.

Since most people do not tolerate the process of cremation, they traditionally bring the corpses of their animals to the earth. This procedure can be done both on private plots and in public parks. It must be remembered that if a pet dies from an infection and is buried in the ground, this can lead to an outbreak of disease.

Doctors note that such buried infections can remain in the ground for about half a century. And in this case, there are no guarantees that this burial will not be dug up by other animals and this will not lead to a real epidemic.

On average, these animals live about 15 years. After everyone is faced with the death of a loyal friend, the question becomes where and how dogs are buried. There are no designated pet cemeteries in the country. Most often, pet lovers equip them themselves.

To do this they use:

  • secluded park spaces,
  • personal plots,
  • yards near home,
  • little forests,
  • roadsides,
  • ravines near rivers,
  • vacant lots behind houses.

Sometimes owners bury dogs in places where they loved to be with them. It is not recommended to arrange a burial place near your home, as this will violate environmental and sanitary standards. In addition, such a place near your home will constantly remind you of your loss.

How long do cats live and how do they age?

On average, cats live about 12 years, but there are also long-livers, whose age at the time of death is 18 – 20 years. This depends on the conditions of detention, the presence of a predisposition to various pathologies.

It often happens that due to illness or serious injury an animal has to be euthanized. Often cats die on the street due to public transport, during fights with other animals, or at the hands of people.

Aging begins in animals from 8 to 10 years of age. At this age, cats' metabolic processes in the body begin to gradually slow down. Pets become more predisposed to developing pathologies of internal organs, especially if at a younger age the care was poor and special attention was not paid to health.

After the death of an animal, the owners are faced with the acute question of how to bury the cat, since the law allows no more than a day for this. If there is an urgent need, you can give the body to a veterinary clinic for a short time, where they will help preserve it until burial.

By law, the death of a pet must be reported to the Veterinary Department of the city or district. Not all owners do this, since the cat’s body will have to be handed over for an autopsy and the funeral will be delayed; the official authorities will insist on cremation of the pet. As a rule, it is general, that is, a large number of pets are burned at one time, after which the ashes are disposed of. Individual cremation is performed extremely rarely; in this case, the owners receive an urn with the pet’s ashes and can bury it anywhere.

Usually, owners decide to bury the cat not far from home in order to visit and care for the grave more often.

Farewell at the veterinary clinic

How to say goodbye to your pet and bury its body? You can do this at a veterinary hospital. But there is a nuance here: you can leave the cat’s corpse in the clinic only if the animal had to be euthanized. If the pet died at home, then veterinarians are unlikely to accept his body for burial.

What is the disadvantage of this method? The owner says goodbye to him at the clinic and leaves the body to the specialists. In this case, he does not decide how to bury the cat. Veterinarians decide for the owner. As a rule, the bodies of dead animals are burned en masse and the ashes are buried in the ground. Nobody gives the ashes to the owners. That is, they cannot bury their pet.

Why did the cat die?

First of all, you need to ask yourself why the cat died. For example, death from old age and death from rabies or other “infection” are completely different things. It is strictly forbidden to carry out the funeral of a cat that has died from an infectious disease on your own - and in no case should you bury the pet’s body in the ground, as this can trigger the outbreak of an entire epidemic.

Such a burial is dangerous, since the cat’s grave can be dug up by rodents or other animals, primarily dogs, and become infected and even become spreaders of the infection. In addition, bacteria can penetrate into groundwater, and then the risk of infection increases a hundredfold. In addition to the danger for people and other animals, this method of burying a pet has another drawback, quite material and even a little cynical - a fine for the owner of the deceased animal. It can be very large, especially if someone has already been hurt because of this step, and this has become known.

If a pet dies from an infection, the only possible burial option is in an urn after cremation. This service is available in every major city and most veterinary clinics. In exceptional cases, it is permissible to go to medical morgues - biological waste is also disposed of in crematoria. It is quite possible that it will be possible to come to an agreement and cremate the deceased pet, and later bury her ashes.

In other cases, there are several main ways to bury a cat in winter

.

The simplest option

For those who have a summer house. Where can you bury a cat, if not on the plot? The owner will be calm that he buried his pet’s body and will always be able to come to his grave.

For burial, a hole is dug at least 1 meter deep. The cat can be put in a box, or simply wrapped in cloth. After all the manipulations, the fresh grave can be decorated. For example, put up a large stone - a monument with the name and years of life of the animal. Many owners line the grave with small stones.

How to choose a burial site on the site?

  • Away from the garden beds. There should be no edible plantings on the cat's grave.
  • Away from children's eyes. Children are naturally curious, and they may well dig up a mound to wonder what was buried there.
  • The grave cannot be made next to a well.
  • Ideally, the pet's final resting place should be on the outskirts of the site. Where nothing grows and where children hardly go.

About the funeral in the park

How and where to bury a cat? According to the legislation of the Russian Federation, it is strictly forbidden to bury pets in parks and in the courtyards of apartment buildings. The decomposition process has not yet been canceled. And along with this, various infections for both people and animals.

We invite you to read: A Burmilla cat will definitely become a member of your family

And few owners will like it if they bury a pet that has gone to the rainbow, and the grave is disturbed by someone’s children or dogs. Therefore, to the question of how to bury a cat and whether it can be done in the park, there is only one answer - no.

You can bury your pet in the forest, away from parks and city yards. The likelihood that the grave will be disturbed there is minimal.

When a cat has died, burying him is not as easy as it seems; space in pet cemeteries is very limited. The death of a cat is, of course, a big loss and people go into deep depression, which can last quite a long time, and is the body really going to lie at home and wait for you to get back to normal?

Of course not, then such an optimal option as comes to the rescue. The service is not very expensive, you can afford it to properly honor the memory of the baby, and not just throw him in the trash. You can also help your friends whose cat died not long ago and they are trying to calm down themselves and bring balance to their children who are asking questions about where their Ryzhik or Barsik went, but they have no idea what to answer them.

One of the popular pets is cats. They become the best friends for children, cure illnesses for the elderly, and delight adults with their affection. But the years of cats run even faster than those of people. Our furry pets age seven times faster. First they grow, mature, then grow old and, unfortunately, die.

Of course, pets become members of the family, and it is very difficult to say goodbye to them forever, morally. Moreover, if the cat died in front of the owner or in the house. Most often, cats try to leave the house if possible before dying. Many people believe that a cat endures death very painfully and instinctively leaves the house, trying to escape the pain. Regardless of where the cat dies, at home or outside, you need to know how to properly deal with the animal’s body.

At first glance, the most humane thing seems to be the burial of a deceased pet. It seems that everything is clear in the question of how to bury a cat: you need to find a secluded place and bury the animal’s body. But it is important to know that burying animals within the city is prohibited by law. Traveling out of town or burying your pet at your dacha is also not the best choice.

This is due to the spread of infection. Either the one from which the animal died, or the one that may arise due to the processes occurring after death. And traveling out of town for a suddenly deceased cat and searching for equipment (shovels, picks, crowbars) can be problematic. Even more problematic is the question of how to bury a cat in winter, because frozen ground is not so easy to dig.

Cremation is the best alternative to burial

“My cat died, I don’t know what to do, I can’t bury my pet” - these and other questions must be asked by the owners of a deceased animal. Cremation (burning a corpse) will solve the problem of saying goodbye to a pet, will allow it to go on its last journey with dignity, and will avoid environmental problems.

Cats live and please their owners for about 12-15 years. In human years, this is 84-105 years. Life expectancy is influenced by living conditions and the absence of disease. But still there comes a time when we have to say goodbye to our pet. How to behave when a cat dies?

Everyone has their own answer to the question of where to bury a cat. Someone will find a picturesque corner outside the city in the forest, someone will allocate a place in their front garden so that they can visit the burial place more often. Special cemeteries for animals are popular abroad, but this is not yet very developed here.

When a cat dies of old age or illness, you can resort to burial yourself. This will not cost money, but it will harm the environment and is against the law. At the same time, there is not always time for the entire burial procedure and the moral strength to do it yourself. Therefore, more and more often, people who are faced with the task are turning to specialized services that deal with cremation.

Cremation is the burning of a deceased animal in a special oven. The whole process lasts from an hour to four, depending on the size and weight of the animal. This method is safer for the environment and for the corpse of a deceased pet, since other animals will definitely not dig it out of the grave and eat its remains.

Since this is a loss, and most likely you will worry for the first time about the loss of a close friend who was always next to you, met you in the hallway, purred on his lap, try to adhere to some rules:

  1. It is necessary to remove the pet’s bed, toys, and bowl so that they do not remind you that it is no longer there. You shouldn’t throw them away; you can find a place for them in the closet or attic, as a keepsake;
  2. After some time, many people get a new pet. Give him time, take care - this will allow you to be busy and not remember sad moments. If you get a new pet, you should not call it the same name. Choose another beautiful, sonorous name, do not associate it with the previous animal;
  3. When you remember your furry friend who has gone to heaven, try to remember only the positive moments, so that after that you will be filled with the bright memory of him.

Using individual cremation (the cat is burned separately from other animals), you are provided with the ashes of your pet. The ashes can be left as a keepsake at home in a special urn, or you can place them in a pendant and always keep them with you. This will make you feel like your furry friend is always with you. This will make it easier to bear the loss.

What should you do

After the death of an animal, you must inform your veterinarian within 24 hours. You can go to the clinic or call a doctor at home. The veterinarian will determine whether the animal was infected with some kind of infection and, depending on the result of the test, will tell you how the animal can be buried.

The rules do not specify whether you need to contact a special veterinarian or if anyone will do. But the Moscow Veterinary Committee on the official website of the Moscow mayor sends the owners of deceased pets to the station for the fight against animal diseases - the State Budgetary Institution "Mosvetobedinenie". There are stations in all administrative districts of Moscow.

At these stations and in some other veterinary organizations, collection points for pet corpses were opened in May 2020. If you are not too interested in the fate of your pet after death, you can hand over the corpse to one of these points.

The cost at which an animal's corpse is disposed of will depend on its weight. If you brought a pet to the station, it will cost 34 rubles to dispose of an animal weighing 1 kg. When ordering the removal of a corpse from home, the service will cost more - 48 rubles per kilogram.

What will be done with the animal’s corpse after you have handed it over to the point is the concern of the State Budgetary Institution. It can either be sent to a veterinary facility or cremated along with other animals - it depends on the operating procedure of a particular reception point.

If you want to attend your pet's funeral, you can arrange for it to be cremated. Animals are cremated by veterinary organizations. In Moscow, these are, for example, “Biocontrol”, “Status-vet”, “Bely Klyk”, “Bio-vet” and other clinics. In “White Fang” it costs 3900 RUR to cremate a cat, in “Biocontrol” it costs 3730 RUR.

You can also contact specialized non-veterinary organizations. Remember that the law does not allow owners to burn animal corpses themselves; this is not cremation.

To understand whether a particular veterinary clinic offers cremation, go to the “Services” section on their website or simply call the clinic. Cremation is usually mentioned separately or included under Funeral Services. It is easier to check the reputation of veterinary clinics than the reputation of non-veterinary organizations, and a veterinarian will definitely be present during the procedure.

You need to be careful with companies that specialize in animal cremation. They can, for example, bury an animal in an illegal way and give you burned paper in an urn: it’s cheaper. To prevent this from happening, ask the company for written confirmation that your pet's cremation will be overseen by a veterinarian who must be present during the cremation.

There is no single form for such confirmation. Here's what you need to pay attention to:

  1. It must be drawn up on official letterhead and certified by the signature of the manager.
  2. It must ensure that a certified veterinarian will be present during the cremation procedure for your animal. The document must include the name of the animal, your full name, date of the procedure, date and number of the contract for paid services.

You must enter into a contract for the provision of cremation services for a fee. According to your form, the organization will most likely refuse to enter into an agreement, so make sure that it contains the following information:

  1. Name of the procedure.
  2. An indication of whether the cremation will be general or individual.
  3. Price.
  4. Date of.
  5. A note indicating whether you will be present at the cremation.
  6. A guarantee that a veterinarian will be present during cremation, as well as that the procedure will be carried out in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation.
  7. An indication of whether the ashes will be given to you after cremation.

If you don't want to keep your ashes at home, you can leave them in a columbar cell, a special storage unit for urns, or bury the urn in the ground. In this case, the animal can be cremated in a specialized cemetery. There are only three such official cemeteries in Russia: in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg - and one cemetery with an unconfirmed status in Tomsk. The status of the cemetery is unconfirmed, because there is no information about it in the Veterinary Department of the Tomsk Region.

How to prepare

When burying a pet, you should inquire about local prohibitions, and then choose a burial site, coffin and headstone. The actions boil down to placing the pet in a coffin, digging a hole, and finally decorating the grave with decorations. By paying attention to these details, it will be psychologically easier to say goodbye to your pet.

You should think about how easy it is for a pet owner to recover from stress. Theoretically, the acceptable period for ending suffering for a deceased animal is about a year. If, based on past experience, such a period lasts longer for a person, then it is better to abandon the idea of burying the pet himself.

The funeral must be carried out no later than 24 hours after the death of the pet. If the period drags on, it will be much harder to survive the event. Of particular importance is the time when the funeral occurs after surgery, protracted treatment, or during the summer season.

Weather

Difficulties are possible if seasonal and weather conditions are unsuitable: a funeral will require a hole at least 0.8 meters deep, which is not easy to organize in winter or during rain. Insufficient deepening may cause body odor to attract wild animals who will dig up the ground. It is advisable to cover the gravestone with stones, but you should not make it particularly noticeable in places not intended for burial, so as not to attract undue attention from people.

If the owner of the animal is against cremation, the burial site is cleared of snow, the ground is cut with a chainsaw, and an additional hole is dug with a shovel.

If it is not possible to bury the cat immediately, you can seek the help of a veterinarian, asking him to preserve the pet’s body. If you need to wait a few days, storing the body in a polystyrene foam container filled with ice is acceptable.

If you decide to bury an animal on the territory of a private home, you can choose a place where the cat liked to play and relax. A secluded area is suitable, not used for planting vegetables and not favored by residents, so that people not initiated into the ritual do not step on the burial, and children do not use the place for games. For the procedure, you will need gloves when touching the cat's body, a container, and a rope for tying the box if it will be used.

It is recommended to pour a layer of bleach at the bottom of the container so that no harmful substances are released into the air when the body decomposes, and then place your pet’s favorite items in it. You can write the name of the animal on a large stone, and plant a plant or tree on the grave itself.

Pet burial places

You can officially bury a cat only with the help of companies that have the appropriate permission to do so in the form of a license. If you don’t have time to look for such a service or financial opportunity, then the easiest way remains is to bury your pet on a personal plot or in the forest.

Do not risk burying your ward in the courtyards of apartment buildings or in parks where there are a lot of people. Firstly, you will not be able to calmly (without prying eyes) say goodbye to your pet, and secondly, self-burying is prohibited by veterinary and sanitary rules and some laws relating to the well-being of the population.

If you decide to bury yourself, then allocate a small plot of land for your pet, where fruits or vegetables will not be grown. Place the person under your care in a cardboard or wooden box, dig a hole at least 60 cm deep (preferably 1 m), pour bleach at the bottom of the hole so that the corpse does not release dangerous toxins during the period of decomposition. Then place the box in the hole and bury it.

Important! Veterinary and sanitary rules for the destruction of biological waste prohibit the burial of domestic animals in the ground. Only burning of corpses in specially designated areas is permitted.

To say goodbye to your furry companion and not torment yourself with mental anguish, it is easier to contact a special service that will organize a decent funeral for your pet.

Losing a beloved pet is never easy. Saying goodbye to your pet is a very painful process. Therefore, many pet owners decide to give their pet a dignified burial. If you want to bury your cat, find out whether your actions are legal in the area where you live. Then select the burial site, coffin and headstone. You will need to place your deceased pet in a coffin, dig a hole, and then decorate the grave. If you do this, it will be easier for you to cope with this difficult situation, since you will be able to say goodbye to your pet.

Legislation and burial

Acceptable places

According to generally accepted rules, acceptable burial places for animals are:

  • spacious clearings;
  • forest plantations;
  • area outside the city limits.

In all of these cases, burial is possible without great expense or violation of the law.

When buried in a pet cemetery, the owner must pay for the location, cremation, burial, and installation of a headstone. It is permissible to bury only cremated animals in accordance with sanitary standards, taking into account the possible infection of the deceased cat and contamination of the soil by groundwater. When using the services of a funeral service, the owner of the animal does not violate the law and can calmly accompany the pet on its final journey. It is acceptable to organize a ceremony with the participation of relatives and friends, decorate the grave with a tombstone and flowers.

There are known cases of fraud involving the deception of owners of deceased animals, when those posing as funeral service employees take the bodies of dead pets and then throw them away. Therefore, you should worry about completing the procedure personally by contacting an official institution.

Sanitary standards

According to sanitary standards, every city provides for the operation of a crematorium for homeless animals. The owner of a dead cat hands over its body to a public utility service, which seems unacceptable to many. In the case of general cremation, the body is burned with the bodies of the others, after which the ashes are disposed of. In individual cremation, one animal is burned and the ashes are given to the owner.

Basic ways to properly bury a cat in winter

If a cat dies in winter, then saying goodbye to it is further complicated by the difficulties associated with burying the pet.

Most often on forums they offer the following options for organizing a farewell to your pet:

:

  • Bury the body of the deceased animal in a ritual zoobox (some use old cardboard boxes or wooden boxes, wrap the body in cloth, bury it in a favorite house, on a litter, etc.). In winter, the matter is complicated by the fact that the ground freezes, often quite deeply. In this case, it is advised to build a fire on the ground and wait until the ground warms up, remove the soft soil, and, if necessary, repeat the fire. You can bury a cat either in your garden plot, in the forest, outside the city, in the courtyard of your house, or in special cemeteries for pets.
  • Cremate your pet by choosing general cremation (shared with other animals) or individual cremation. With individual cremation, you can keep your pet’s ashes in a special urn as a reminder of the animal or bury them - and you can bury the urn with ashes even when it gets warmer.
  • Contact a special service that provides ritual animal services: experienced specialists will bury the cat themselves. The disadvantage of this advice is that not all cities have companies that carry out such activities. Most often, such companies exist only in large cities, for example, in regional capitals.
  • If it is frosty outside, store the body of the deceased pet until it warms up on the balcony (if the cat’s owner lives in an apartment) or in a barn, in another outbuilding, or even outside, in a secluded corner. With the onset of spring, the cat can be buried.
  • In winter, some people advise not to bury the animal, but to throw the body of the deceased pet in the trash.

Of course, the last two tips are completely excluded. They contradict both moral, ethical and sanitary standards and are therefore not allowed. The optimal solution would be to cremate the cat.

The death of a beloved pet is a sad event in the life of a caring owner. An animal can die from old age, illness, or from an accident, so every owner must be prepared for such a test. How to bury a cat, what is needed for this? Is it possible to bury a cat on my property? We will consider all these and many other questions in detail.

Forms of burial

When buried in a certain area, special containers are provided to avoid soil contamination. Some people prefer to bury cats in cardboard boxes, cribs, or towels if there is no desire or opportunity to pay for a coffin. However, there are much more exotic forms of resting an animal.

The not-acceptable trend of ashes processing has emerged relatively recently in China: the ashes of a deceased pet are transformed into a small product, an accessory, which, due to its demand, is often at hand. By touching an object that is directly related to the former pet, it is easier for the owner to accept his loss.

Cat mysticism

Cats are known to be natural psychics. They heal, predict weather and earthquakes, and discover new abilities in people. Great importance is also attached to how the cat passed away. It’s one thing if death occurred due to natural causes: old age, illness, accident. And it’s a completely different matter when a cat died suddenly, for no apparent reason. People prone to mysticism see here witchcraft, corruption, overwhelming human emotions and the influence of otherworldly forces.

Since ancient times, cats have been attributed magical properties.

It has been known since ancient times that cats do not die where they live. Anticipating their death, they try to hide away from prying eyes, closer to the other world. Neither scientists nor astrologers can explain this fact.
