The drug Mexidol-Vet for the prevention of stress and diseases in cats and dogs caused by oxygen starvation

5008Pavel

Mexidol for cats is used to treat circulatory disorders in the brain. The drug Mexidol-Vet is used in veterinary medicine very often when preparing an animal for surgery and after it, so that the state of anesthesia does not provoke complications. This veterinary drug has no analogues, and it is very difficult to replace it with any drug used for humans.

The purpose of the drug is to restore cerebral circulation after injuries, infectious lesions and long-term anesthesia. Mexidol-veta is produced in the form of an injection solution or tablets. It's easier to give your dog tablets. Feeding them to a cat is always difficult, so in therapy they mainly use the drug in the form of injections.

  • ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate - 25 mg or 50 mg;

How Mexidol-Vet works

Mexidol-Vet realizes its effects through the following mechanisms of action:

  • when there is a lack of oxygen in the cells, it enhances the process of glucose uptake by cells, and also prevents a decrease in its uptake in conditions of oxygen deficiency;
  • activates energy production inside cells;
  • slows down the formation of free radicals - substances that damage cells;
  • improves impulse conduction in nerve cells and fibers.

Effects of the drug Mexidol-Vet:

  • Antioxidant: slows down processes leading to the formation of free radicals;
  • prevents damage to cells and tissues by free radicals.
  • Antihypoxic:
      increases the body's resistance to conditions associated with a lack of oxygen: shock - acute insufficiency of peripheral blood supply caused by excessive exposure to an aggressive factor;
  • hypoxia - a state of oxygen deficiency in tissues;
  • ischemia - a decrease in blood supply to a tissue or organ caused by a narrowing of the lumen of an artery or its blockage;
  • disorders of the blood supply to the brain.
  • Membrane stabilizing:
      reduces the permeability of cell membranes to ions, especially sodium and potassium;
  • improves capillary blood flow and blood fluidity;
  • increases the resistance of red blood cells and platelets to hemolysis - cell destruction under the influence of aggressive factors;
  • reduces the level of lipids in the blood, leading to damage to the walls of blood vessels: reduces the content of total cholesterol in the blood;
  • helps reduce low-density lipoprotein levels.
  • Mexidol-Vet, when taken orally in the form of tablets, easily passes into the blood from the lumen of the digestive system; When administered by injection, it is well distributed throughout the body. The drug is excreted by the kidneys. The tablet form of Mexidol-Vet is defined as a low-hazard compound in terms of the level of danger of its effect on warm-blooded organisms; injection form - as a compound with moderate danger.

    Mexidol-Vet is not characterized by:

    • local irritant effect;
    • cumulative effect - does not accumulate in tissues and organs;
    • embryotoxic effect - does not have a damaging effect on the embryo, leading to termination of pregnancy in the early stages;
    • teratogenic effect, causing the formation of gross malformations in the fetus.

  • When is it used?

    Experts recommend using it in addition to the main treatment. But for what diseases did the medicine show maximum effectiveness? It has proven itself best in the treatment of cardiac and pulmonary pathologies, when the risk of developing severe forms of hypoxia is too great. There are other indications for use.

    For example, Mexidol can be successfully used in the preoperative or postoperative period, especially when general anesthesia is planned (or has already been used). The medicine in this case also helps to avoid many serious complications. But this is not the entire list of possible prescriptions.

    Thus, in practice it has been found that in cats suffering from long-term non-healing trophic ulcers, atopic dermatitis and other pathologies of the skin, accompanied by the formation of long-term non-healing defects, the use of Mexidol gives an excellent effect. Veterinarians say that the likelihood of successful treatment in a short time increases by 40-53%. The exact numbers depend both on the general condition of the animal and on its gender, age, weight and breed.

    Reviews of the drug from cat owners

    Mexidol was prescribed to our animals for traumatic brain injuries, strokes, epilepsy, poisoning and pancreatitis. What I remembered offhand. All diagnoses are more than serious and the use of this drug was justified.

    Time

    https://forum.auto.ru/brothers/351856/

    The cat is 11 years old (Persian)... He lost his appetite and began to lose a lot of weight. At the veterinary clinic they drove away the worms, it was very difficult for me... Now we have been prescribed Mexidol Vet intramuscularly at 0.4. It is clear that the injections are very painful: it is clear that immediately after the injection the cat falls on its hind legs.

    pharmachologic effect

    The medicine has a large number of positive reviews among breeders and specialists. First of all, this drug is prescribed for pathologies and diseases associated with insufficient saturation of the tissues of the animal’s body with oxygen. After suffering the shock of moving, heavy physical exertion, or a scheduled operation using anesthesia, medicine is vital for the animal. Pets bounce back much faster and regain their strength. With a normal supply of oxygen to all organs, the likelihood that a pet will live a long and happy life increases.
